Julia's place is a gem in the heart of East Village. I stayed there for 5 weeks and I couldn't have asked for a cozier home and a better location - originally came for a month and then extended for another week. The apartment is spacious, furnished with a lot of tasteful charm and has a lovely terrace that is rare and unique for apartments in the city. It is super clean, fully equipped and has enough storage for a long stay. The neighborhood is in an eclectic happening area with many restaurants, bars and nice small shops that cater to everyone's taste. Subway stations, grocery shops and pharmacies are all within a couple of minutes walking distance. I didn't meet Julia in person as she was traveling but she has arranged for timely handover/takeover and was always very responsive to emails. She is a considerate host who ensures ahead of the arrival of her guests and during their stay that everything is in place to make them feel comfortably at home. If I had the option, I wouldn't stay at any other place but Julia's!

Before trying Airbnb, me and my husband waisted 2 weeks looking for an apartment in New York in other web sites. Then we were advised to try Airbnb. The same day I found Julia's apartment and wrote her my request. I think I was very lucky not just with website, but with the host too! As she replied the same day, asking couple of questions about our trip. Clear, to the point, fast. I loved such a cooperation! After we made the deal she gave us clear directions how to reach the apartment from the airport and the day of arrival her husband met us in the apartment and was very kind with explanations - he advised a lot about the city and neighborhood. The location of the apartment is just perfect. It is 1 minute from the metro station, and train takes you to the city center in about 10-15 minutes, depending on where you wanna go. The apartment itself is amazing, perfect for a couple, we felt in love with it! We really felt like at home - with its cozy sofa, nice dining table, fully equipped kitchen. We never used the second floor and the terrace as it was cold, but in summer time should be nice. The heating system was good, it was enough even during -10 C cold outside. The neighborhood is pretty cool too! Not too noisy as in downtown, but full of cafes, restaurants and bars. There is even a cinema, but the movies they are screening are a bit outdated. There is Whole Foods grocery nearby, which we loved too. All in all, we were lucky to get a chance to stay in this apartment for 10 days. Highly recommend! I would go back :)

I am a filmmaker living in New York City. My husband and I have lived and worked in Japan, Kenya, Czech Republic, and Senegal. We've also traveled to Italy, Spain, France, England, Denmark, Turkey, Croatia, Montenegro, Norway, South Korea. But there's no place more diverse and energetic than New York's East Village/Lower East Side!
