What a great place! This was the perfect type of place for us--a great little escape destination. The location was ideal for us, about 20 minutes from downtown Charlottesville, and about 30 minutes from Shenandoah. We live in a busy town, so wanted something in a quieter locale, but still close to amenities. The views were spectacular from the property--we could see the entire southern section of Shenandoah, and went out to watch the sunset both nights we were there. We did not make use of the big communal outdoor fireplace, but it's just another reason to go back. We enjoyed ambling about the property with our 10 month old son as well--there are a couple of little pond with the spring peepers chirping, and our son went nuts over the black vultures that were often circling over head. The hosts were great--we only met Bill, but he gave us some great tips on what to do locally, and Roseanne was available by text for any additional questions we had. We are considering a second trip with a bunch of our friends and renting all the units! Unit was very comfy and cozy, just had a strong odor of paint fumes, which will obviously decrease with time. Looking forward to our next trip.
Wonderful location, terrific hospitality, kind and responsive hosts. Absolutely worth visiting... this was my second time staying with Roseanne and Bill, and I will be back again and again.
This is a great place to stay if you are looking to get away! They provided us with everything we needed including firewood. The space was clean and very comfortable. We enjoyed the sunset from the top of the retreat! It is a great location, close to both Charlottesville and the wineries located in Nelson County. My only recommendation would be to arrive during the day, as it is located down some smaller, curvy roads that can be difficult to navigate at night.
My fiance and I were looking for a relaxing weekend getaway from the hustle and bustle of Washington DC and, we are happy to say, we found that and more at Bailey's Retreat. The cottage was clean, tastefully decorated, and prepped for our arrival. On the first evening, we took a short walk up to the viewing area to watch the sunset and had the pleasure of meeting Bill (the owner)! He was very welcoming and full of tips and recommendations for our stay. He even brought out warm blankets for us to cuddle-up in as the sun went down - what a view!
There are so many activities nearby it was hard to decide what to do but we ended up visiting the local breweries and then Monticello on Sunday. But, looking back, I think what really made the weekend was our time in the cottage; enjoying the quiet, relaxing by the fire, and taking-in the view.
Bailey's Retreat is truly a slice of heaven. My fiance and I would absolutely recommend staying there and we plan on coming back soon!
We spent the weekend at Bailey's Retreat and we're greeted with a lovely welcome basket with snacks and pumpkin bread. We were snowed in for the weekend which was just fine with us; it gave us an excuse to stay in and enjoy the lovely and warm space. We also very much enjoyed having access to the fireplace as it made the experience that much more cozy. We will definitely plan another visit without a doubt!
The cottage was fantastic! It is even prettier in person than in the listing, and it was so cozy on a snowy night! We will definitely stay here in the future and have nothing but great things to say about the cottage and surrounding property. Cannot recommend it enough!
My wife and I had a great stay at Roseanne and Bills place! The cottage we stayed in was comfy and all the amenities were there! The cottage was immaculate the fireplace was sweet with available wood to be had. They were personable and gave us full access to the beautiful surrounding area and had as much privacy as we wished. I would strongly recommend a stay at their wonderful cottage or cabin! Leo and Barbara
