We are situated in the historic Brunswick Northwest Neighborhood where you can stroll among the stately homes built in the mid to late 1800's, many with beautiful grounds and gardens. Quick access to the Androscoggin River walking/biking trail.
There is a public transit bus stop directly across the street. Good supermarket and Brunswick Transportation Center (with bus and train connections) are a 5-10 minute walk away. Freeport is only 10 minutes south by car, Portland 20, and Brunswick is situated at the entry to the coastal route north for Bath, Wiscasset, Boothbay Harbor, Rockland and all destinations beyond.
Other Things to Note
In the summer/fall, there is an excellent farmer's market on the Brunswick Mall downtown on Tuesdays and Fridays. Off season, a popular "winter market" is held on weekends in the refurbished Cabot Mill (10 minute walk). Brunswick has two art movie houses, one in the mill and one downtown, as well as a multiplex theater 2 miles away at the Cook's Corner Mall. The very fine Bowdoin Museum of Art is open year-round and free of charge. In the summer, the Maine State Music Theatre and Bowdoin International Music Festival present first-rate popular and classical entertainment.
Absolutely no smoking, no pets. IMPORTANT: Please make every effort to plan your arrival in Brunswick between 2-8 pm. However, with adequate advance notice, we are happy to provide earlier check-in (when possible), as well as after-hours self-access.
We felt totally comfortable at Marty's. As always, the whole wheat English muffins, peanut butter and apricot I'm hit the spot as did the fruit, beer, etc. we had a big crew for graduation and although we were on the go most of time, our who,e family could spread out, lay around hang out, drink coffee whenever we had a chance. Love being in walking distance of everything, particularly convenient around commencement. And Marty and Henry were fantastic hosts. We just really like this guys!
Marty went above and beyond to welcome us and make us feel like pampered guests! His home and the apartment are beautiful. He has spent a great deal of time and care in making the apartment cozy and comfortable with any amenity one could want. My mom and I were traveling together and we were both sad to leave because we were so happy there. My mom commented that it was like he had shopped according to her shopping list - the kitchen was stocked with wonderful food for breakfast and snacks. It far surpassed our expectations. We are thrilled to have discovered Marty and his home and we look forward to returning soon.
Always a super comfy stay at Marty's! I am always happy that there are whole wheat English muffins and good peanut butter because that always does the trick for me when I am starving!! We are only sorry that we didn't discover this great airbnb until our daughters last year at Bowdoin college.
While Brunswick was buried in snow, literally mountains of it, we were warm and cozy inside this charmingly appointed apartment. Our host was very helpful. His careful attention to detail makes it feel like you are in the home of a close friend -- goodies in the fridge and toiletries provided. If you are headed to this area, it is find.
Wow. What great hosts! Marty walked down to the train station to meet us (and drove us back to the station during the snow storm). Marty knows his town, and it seems most people in town know Henry and him. After talking with Marty, we felt like we knew the town.
We chose to stay in Brunswick as it was the furthest north on the Amtrak Downeaster train line. Brunswick is a great town in a great location in Maine. We enjoyed the restaurants and the shopping. There is a large and versified grocery store within walking distance of the accommodations.
We thank Marty for being a great host. We enjoyed talking with him, and he enjoyed helping us with our travel needs.
Our accommodations in the private apartment were spacious and comfortable. Our visit was in November, and the we were warm and cozy. Note - the kitchen has a two burner hot plate and a microwave, but no stove. (For our 3-day stay, we didn't need a stove.) The refrigerator held lots more than just milk! We appreciated the choice of cereals, and snack items.
It's very difficult to do Marty and Henry justice here. They may actually be the perfect Airbnb hosts. There is literally nothing on which they could be faulted and I was treated more as a valued friend than a stranger borrowing their apartment.
They were so kind as to pick me up from the station and cook me dinner on the first night I was there, as my train was delayed and the town was shut, which is so far above and beyond the call of duty that words fail me. They are incredibly friendly and supremely knowledgeable about their area.
The apartment itself is located within a couple of hundred yards of the bustle of Maine Street, the town's main shopping street, but is remarkably quiet. It's beautifully decorated and very hospitable with a lovely big bed and a number of comfy chairs. It is also very well insulated, which is kind of important in Maine in November.
The kitchenette is surprisingly well equipped and was supplied with orange juice, coffee, bagels and even some bananas on my arrival. There is also cable TV (which I didn't watch - I don't like television) and decent quality wifi.
As for Brunswick, it's one of the loveliest towns I've visited and has a far better selection of shops and restaurants than its size would suggest, due to the presence of Bowdoin college in town. I spent most of my time out walking as I am a very keen photographer and the views over the Androscoggin river from both Brunswick and Topsham are fantastic. The two museums on campus are well worth a visit too and are free.
If you visit Brunswick and you choose not to stay with these guys, you are making a serious mistake. This is my tenth Airbnb trip in five different countries including those booked by friends, and with no disrespect meant to any other hosts, almost all of whom were brilliant, these guys are the best hands down.
