Had a great stay on Folsom street. Great location, cute neighborhood, great coffee and juice not even a block away. Apartment was very quaint, simple and clean. Lovely back yard, very private.
Excellent location, spacious apartment, nice little balcony to sit out on. Apartment was a little sparse but very clean. Tom was incredibly responsive and gave very helpful, detailed instructions. It's true about the shower - not suited for tall people. Overall it's a great value in the perfect neighborhood.
The key to enjoying San Francisco experience is to recognize that it is a collection of distinct neighborhoods and that you must pick the district that suits your style and travel needs.
We chose this place on Folsom in the Mission District because the location has a lot going for it. Within a short walk of the 24th St BART station and with the Van Ness Muni line also nearby, it doesn’t take much effort to get to places in the city most frequented by visitors. All you have to do is buy yourself a Clipper card with enough cash loaded on it and you can ride on just about any public conveyance!
As this is the Mission district, Hispanic influence is very pronounced in the neighborhood bodegas and visitors will see some of the most amazing mural art celebrating Mexican-American culture decorating many of the buildings. Central to the well being of this neighborhood is Philz Coffee. If the atmosphere of Philz ain’t for you, try the other coffee house down the street in a place where the clients are all silently glued to their laptops and Zen-like music fills the air. Travelers with bags of dirty laundry will be happy to hear that they can take it to a coin-operated laundry nearby and that a Walgreens is also a short walk away.
As this is San Francisco, you can get some really good food in tons of non-touristy neighborhood places without breaking the bank. So, ignore the fact that the kitchen in this rental is pretty limited because San Francisco offers the greatest collection of restaurants to choose from as long as you avoid those touristy clip joints! First treat yourself to a beer from this apartment’s balcony; that view is pretty good from the third floor. Then from this Folsom St. house, head out on foot in the evening to Valencia for example. Try a different neighborhood the next night and so on.
All in all, this Folsom St Victorian is a good place for the active, adventurous traveler. Don’t come with a ton of luggage unless toting it up three flights of wooden steps on the outside of the house is not an issue for you. (It was a tad slippery during the rain.) And don’t come expecting to sit around in the evening watching TV. The place is a “work in progress” but I will credit the owner for responding to any problem that came up. Enjoy!
A really nice, private apartment. The unit is completely separate from the other units in the same building, which is already a big plus. Quite a lot of space, especially for only two people. Tom was very helpful and professional: he gave us very clear directions about how to access the place, and provided some neighbourhood tips. Speaking of which, you really can't beat this neighbourhood: you can enjoy all the highlights of the Mission and be only a 5 minute walk away from the BART. The view from the back porch is spectacular.
The apartment itself is quite spacious and offers a great view. There is a kitchen you can use, although there wasn't a full range of amenities available (no corkscrew/bottle opener, for example - bring your own!). The only real downside is that the water pressure in the shower is rather weak. Obviously not a major problem for a place you're only staying in for a few days, but for some it could be an issue. Otherwise, the place is fantastic and comfortable. We'd stay there again.
Convenient place in a fun neighborhood. The owner is very responsive and thorough in his information packet. My only advice would be that if you're an exceptionally light sleeper, the bedroom faces the street. Not a big deal. The occasional weekday morning garbage truck may wake you up a little early if you're sensitive to that. But it's not a major thoroughfare. I'm just a really light sleeper.
Tom's place was a great spot for us to explore San Francisco. It was very close to BART, with easy directions on how to check in/check out. The place was professionally cleaned and had beautiful sunlight, especially on the back balcony. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen was stocked with any cookware you would need for a short stay.
Note: Tall people will need to duck in the shower.
Thank you Tom!
I stayed at Tom's place for a work week (M-F). The location is amazing - right near the 24th/Mission Bart station and very accessible. It was super cold last week, but the apartment was cozy and warm. There is everything you could need for a nice and pleasant stay.
Tom handled my last minute request for an extra towel as well as allowing me to stash my bags before the 3PM check in time. He was very nice and easy to communicate with. I'm staying there again this week.
This apartment is spacious and very clean. Four of us had plenty of room. The views are fantastic and the location is good for public transportation. We really liked having the fresh juice place and Phil's coffee (best coffee in SF) and a panaderia a half a block away on the corner. The neighborhood has tons of good restaurants, interesting shops and art. We were here for a conference but still had time to enjoy the local vibe. We would rent this apartment again for sure. The only negative for some could be the three flights of stairs but thats what gets you the view.
Nice place to stay, very vivid area, apartment was fine!
