Within a five minute walk are restaurants, theaters, coffee shops, gyms, and bookstores. The San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park can be reached on foot or by bus. The beaches and the airport are a ten minute drive. Relish the seclusion and revel in the night-life and culture of central San Diego.

The cottage features full amenities that include:

  • Mike's place is a truly remarkable one. Maybe you're a lover of art, native gardening, Greene & Greene design, fine woodworking, or Frank L. Baum. Maybe you're just looking for the most beautiful and restful accommodations you can find, in a location convenient to just about anything you might want to do in San Diego, with hosts who treat you like favorite cousins. In any of these cases, you've found what you're looking for.

  • This Cottage is a treasure in the middle of the city. Mick warmly welcomed us and we really enjoyed our stay. The bed was awesome and my only regret is that I couldn't stay longer !

  • If you're coming to San Diego try to book here. Amazing cottage that has all the amenities, comfy bed (too comfy some mornings) and a great yard. The pride in ownership is seen throughout the place and I couldn't have been more happy with my stay. Public transportation is close, but I used cabs mainly. Balboa Park is a 20-30 minute stroll away, plus you have easy walking access to the restaurants and shops of Hillcrest. Make sure to check out Great Maple restaurant down the road.

  • Mike was a wonderful host and he had great suggestions of what to do in the city! The cottage was fabulous, very clean, had everything we needed. Very central to great restaurants and activities. We loved Mike's place and would definitely visit again on our next trip to San Diego.

  • Mike was a wonderful host with a fantastic cottage and property. We were pleasantly surprised to find it EVEN BETTER than expected based upon the lovely pictures and description. The location and neighborhood were ideal for walking, eating, shopping and as a great base for exploring San Diego in all directions. I have already told many colleagues who travel to SD frequently that I will never stay in a hotel again if Mike's place is available!

  • My boyfriend and I stayed at Mike's place for a couple night, and it was just what we were looking for (even more than we were expecting actually!). There is a lot of attention to detail in the guest house, which we both loved. And the location was great -- we were only a couple blocks from Trader Joe's and lots of restaurants. I would love to stay there again. Thanks Mike!

  • My husband and I loved our weekend stay at Mike's Place. The cottage itself is amazing with all the details in craftsmanship, wonderful pieces of art, and it's very clean. We enjoyed great conversations with Mike a couple of times, but he also respected our privacy. Great location in a quiet neighborhood with easy access to freeway. We hope to return soon!

  • Fantastic cottage to stay in San Diego! Mike and Larry are fantastic hosts, the place was beautiful, clean, and well-stocked (e.g. linens, toiletries, complimentary colas/water, etc). Easy to recommend!

I am a painter and an art instructor and have worked in the field for thirty years. I have lived in this residence for 26 years and have applied all of my skills and interest to restoring this house to its historic roots.  I was delighted when my zero-scape garden won the neighborhood award and was mentioned in a "Sunset Magazine" walking tour of the area.  I spend most of my time painting in the art studio and therefore, enjoys the opportunity to meet people from other places.
