I and my husband are from Sweden and we stayed 8 days in Conrad´s Music Suite while we had a fall vacation in Chicago. We liked the apartment very much and felt at home there. Over the weekend we had close friends from St Louis visiting and the apartment was well equipped for the four of us. It was nice to live a bit outside the city on a quiet regular street where we felt part of regular Chicago life. There is a large food store and nice local restaurants nearby. The train runs often from Paulina station and there are also buses in the vicinity.
We would definitely like to stay here again if we visit Chicago.
The apartment is on a lovely street, and it is very spacious. They were kind enough to let us use the parking space, which was super helpful as we saw parking could be a bit hard in the neighborhood. Very comfortable and near shops and restaurants.
This is a great place! Check-in was easy, and the apartment was located steps from the grocery store and L-train. Clean, comfortable, and in a great neighborhood, I would highly recommend this place to anybody visiting Chicago.
We booked this place nearly three weeks prior to our arrival. Received this email from Conrad one week prior to our arrival:
We just realized, that we double booked you and another party for one night.
Rather than having to cancel the booking, we would like to offer you an upgrade to a larger 2 BR suite, that is about 1 mile away from where you are, it is a newly refurbished apartment with two full bathrooms. Since this is not your fault, we would like to offer that at the same rate, so you would not have to change the reservation.
Please let us know, if that would work for you?
We really appreciate your cooperation in this matter, we just coordinated the various calendars of different agencies and found the mistake.
This apartment can be viewed under King Suite and should be viewable under our other properties.
Hope to hear soon,

Needless to say, it seemed a bait and switch. Unfortunately, there was at least one reviewer that reported a similar experience. Although the interior of the "new" space was sufficient, it did not have a shower (only hand-held in a tub), the bedrooms faced one another with glass paneled doors separating them, and the stairway smelled like it went through a great flood. The apartment was on the 3rd floor -- and, it was a walk-up.
This is where we ended up: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1346567
We loved staying here. The apartment occupies the entire first floor of a house and is very nice, spacious, and clean. It has a small back yard and natural light from the windows. The tree-lined residential street is beautiful, very quiet, and feels safe. It's very close to an L train station and a bus route, as well as restaurants and grocery. Getting to and from O'Hare was easy, and going downtown was easy. A car could park right in front. The host is responsive. We were a group of 4. I would recommend this apartment.
The apartment was in a great location. Very close to a train station and plenty of restaurants, bars, and a supermarket. The landlord lives upstairs, so if you want privacy, probably not your best bet. We saw him a lot of the week while we stayed. Overall cleanliness of the apartment wasn't superb, but not unbearable either.
We had a great time at our Chicago apartment. The apartment has a great location. The apartment itself does not have a parking space, but the area itself does not have parking permit restrictions and we did not have problems parking except for one weekend night that had fairs, and a night cub game so it was understandable; I still managed to find parking three blocks away.
The apartment was roomy and had great closet space. The location was very convenient with a Whole Foods only one block away and the L station within 3 blocks. There are also many restaurants, beer gardens, ice cream shops, Walgreens, etc. in the immediate area. The only hiccup we had was with the wifi service. It kept interrupting. Sometimes the interruption would be very short, but other times it would be over 5 minutes. We would have a wifi signal, but no access to the Internet.
Also, the washer had just broken, but within a couple of blocks we found a cleaning service that did our laundry with next day service. There are also laundromats nearby if you want to do it yourself.
Even with these minor hiccups we would highly recommend this apartment if you would like a nice quiet place, within walking distance to the train, shops and restaurants. If you want a real neighborhood feel, but still have easy access to the city then this should work for you.
Conrad's apartment has the three most important ingredients for a successful urban vacation, 1) great public transportation a 5 minute walk away - the Paulina stop on the CTA; 2) a quiet neighborhood; and 3) comfortable beds.
The apartment is really nice ! It is close to the train station "paulina", so it is really convinient to go downtown. Besides it is close to the aprtment there is a Starbucks and a Walgreens! We had an awseome time in Chicago!
My family and I stayed here over the Thanksgiving holiday and had a wonderful time. Conrad is a gracious host and this property is clean, comfortable and spacious. We particularly enjoyed the piano! The apartment is well situated to explore Lakeview's bars and restaurants and it is close to public transport links and two excellent grocery stores. I will definitely be staying here again on future Chicago visits!
