There are many new cafes, bistro's, coffee shops, a wine store, trendy restaurants, bars, clubs and natural food markets nearby and Bushwick was recently voted "the hippest neighborhood in the United States" by Time Magazine...

The Neighborhood

Bushwick is a unique, safe, fun and interesting neighborhood. The area is home to many artists and young creative professionals including musicians, writers, poets and a vibrant "multi-ethnic" culture, which give the area a very eclectic energy, charm and "hip-ness". A quintessential Brooklyn experience! There are many new cafes, bistro's, coffee shops, a wine store, trendy restaurants, bars, clubs and natural food markets nearby and Bushwick was recently voted "the hippest neighborhood in the United States" by Time Magazine. There are many local restaurants, bars and restaurant delivery services (if you enjoy Mexican, Puerto Rican, Dominican, French, Thai, Spanish or Chinese cuisine, it doesn't get any more authentic). A fast 15 minutes by subway/metro/car service/taxi* to downtown Manhattan via the Williamsburg Bridge and 20 minutes to Midtown/Times Square. The neighborhood is very safe, as well as, vibrant, bohemian and culturally diverse. We are blocks away from city parks, bars, music venues, zip cars, shops and a few short subway stops from Manhattan (Lower East Side, Soho, Chelsea, Midtown, Upper West/Eastside), Ridgewood, Williamsburg, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Downtown Brooklyn and Greenpoint. There are also two Zipcar garages within short walking distance for those of you who are members.

Getting around

Our location is Central Avenue, between Stanhope and Stockholm in Bushwick, off Myrtle and DeKalb. We are approximately 2 blocks (a short 2 min walk) from the Central Avenue "M" train which takes roughly 15 minutes to the Lower East Side, Soho, Canal Street, Lower Manhattan, Greenwich Village, Financial District, Chelsea and 20-25 mins to Midtown, Times Square, Herald Square, Penn Station/Port Authority, Central Park and the Upper West/East Side via the 6th Avenue (Orange) subway line. You can also take the "M" train 2 stops to the "L" train at the Myrtle/Wyckoff stop, which will take you completely across Manhattan via 14th Street, as well as, walking (10 minutes) to the Dekalb Avenue L stop. My wife and I commute on a daily basis and it's extremely convenient for getting into the city and very fast/efficient. As its the 6th Avenue line, you rarely have to transfer to other trains as it's SO central to all destinations in Manhattan. Keep in mind that if you travel after from 11pm-6am, the travel time is extended by approximately 10 minutes. There is ample street parking, free at all times. Also there are many trusted 24 hour car service company's serving the NYC Metro area. If you have a car, the drive is about the same and parking is relatively easy in our neighborhood. We are also about 5-10 minutes from the Long Island Expressway, BQE and connections to the NY Thruway, Jackie Rob Expressway, etc. Taxis from Manhattan to our place run between $14-20 depending upon the time of day and arrive in Bushwick via The Williamsburg Bridge/5th Street/Bushwick Ave. The route is very direct and easy to follow. You can also get a 24 car service to lower Manhattan for a $20 flat fee including tip, $25-30 for Midtown and Upper New York (Eastside/Westside).

  • Sarah and Aaron are/were perfect hosts! We felt right at home while staying with them. As it was my first experience using the service I was a little nervous about the outcome but they are Very amazing and humble people with a very hip and groovy vibe. Would and will recommend their airbnb to anyone. The apartment is located in a perfect area of Brooklyn with great food and cool coffee shops and bars. The train was only a couple blocks away and only about 10 mins from manhattan. A huge high five to these people and their place!

  • Initially I booked a one month stay with Sarah and Aaron but I ending up extending it to three. Goes to show how much I enjoyed staying with them in Bushwick. They offered me a safe, welcoming and comfortable environment for basing my NYC adventures. I am proud to call them my friends and I am indebted to the hospitality and generosity they extended towards me. I cannot thank them enough.

  • I enjoyed my stay with Aaron and Sarah, so much so that I'm going back to stay with them again.

Aaron and Sarah are such lovely people. They are fun, creative and working professionals that still made the time to make me feel accommodated and welcome.

Their apartment is beautiful, clean and very well maintained. They take tremendous pride in their home and I was careful to treat their home with the same appreciation and respect.

I have no hesitation in recommending Aaron and Sarah as hosts. If you're looking for an NYC base for exploring Brooklyn and Manhattan, their home is an ideal option.

    Response from Aaron & Sarah:

Thanks so much Sarah for your kind words! We are both very excited to have you back! You are a lovely and gracious guest indeed! See you soon...Best!! A&S

  • Aaron and Sarah were the perfect hosts! From the moment I contacted them they were kind, responsive and professional. They made our first trip to NYC very enjoyable and were always available to contact which made transport and finding their apartment very easy.
Although we were a bit daunted by the area when we first arrived, we had no problems in the 5 nights we stayed and it was extremely well located to the metro. For such a great price it was eyasy to catch the train into Manhattan each day.
Unfortunately, we did not get to spend as much time with Aaron and Sarah as we would have liked. They were both amazing company in the short time we had and instantly made us feel at home.
The house itself was beautiful and very comfortable to come home to after long days walking around the city.
Overall we had a great experience and if we return we would definitely contact Aaron and Sarah first! And hopefully get to know them both better! Thanks again

  • sarah and aaron are such awesome hosts! very caring, giving and ready to share and just welcomed me with open arms. i loved their apartment- clean, comfortable (oui, avec A/C!) and very inviting. the metro is super close, and i felt safe: i never took a taxi in, even when i stayed far too long in manhattan- i don't know if it's even a minute and a half walk? we where lucky that my first night we enjoyed each other's company, had laughs, and shared some personal stories. a really nice evening... and then we all where on our own ways. they had work and i had my stay to indulge in. if you're willing to stay out of manhattan, which with the subway line being so close you really should, then this is an ideal get-away where you will feel very much at home.

  • I had a great time here! Aaron and Sarah were great hosts, and made my stay really enjoyable! I would recommend them to anyone looking to stay in the area.

  • I really did not get to spend much time with Aaron and Sarah, as we were all insanely busy during my stay, but they knew I know NY well and was not much in need of their assistance and I am quite sure if so needed, they would have provided such.

The place is small (as is expected in the area) but very clean, comfortable and well decorated. The room is at the front of the apartment, so you can come in the door and sweep right into your room if you are not so much the sociable type, or conversely hang in the living room next to your room.

I drove up there and was thrilled to have no issues with parking, it was easy to get around with the car from their location.

Aaron and Sarah were super nice and friendly and really, I totally felt like I was staying at a friends place and if I had had the time, I would have happily hung out there more.

I had free access to the place night and day and thought it was well worth the money spent. Aaron pretty much handed me the keys, helped me get onto their wifi, showed me too the coffee, coffee maker and vodka and they were off on their way... for me it was perfect *smile*

I will likely stay with them whenever I am there and need a place.

Hopefully next time I will get the chance to get to know them better.

Thanks guys... Ill see you again soon!

  • Sarah & Aaron are great. It's like to be at home but you are at 20 minutes from Manhattan. Even beacause the subway is near, at the end of the street. Giulia and me, we think that it's the good place to be, as you can appreciate the familiar attitude of Aaron and Sarah, ans easily discover the Big Apple. Next time we'll spend there more time...

  • We had a very good time staying in Aaron & Sarah's beautiful, cozy and clean apartment in Bushwick. Both Aaron and Sarah are very kind and really helpful. They immediately made us feel very comfortable.

The apartment is close to the subway, and within 15-30 minutes you can be anywhere in Brooklyn or Manhattan. The room is located on the street side, so sometimes there can be some noise from the street but I guess that is unavoidable when staying in New York. The main bed is really comfortable, but on the small side if sleeping with two people. However, there is an extra (single) bed that you can slide out.

I definitely recommend staying with Aaron and Sarah!

  • Sarah & Aaron's home is very clean and incredibly cozy. The decor is warm and welcoming and I felt at home. The room is quite large: the bed is comfy and there is closet space, there is also a large table which I used to do some work; the wi-fi is quick. The kitchen is great and has everything you need! Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and would have liked to spend more time at the apartment but there is just so much to do and see in NYC!
I didn't get a chance to meet Aaron but he was always available via email to answer any of my questions. Sarah was very sweet and kind and I wish I had the opportunity to get to know her a little more. I will definitely come back on my next trip.
