This apartment is in a lovely location with easy access to the Luas and downtown Dublin. The rooms were spacious and well appointed. Grainne made the process very easy, even offering a driver for hire to transport us to and from the airport.
The "Padraig Pearse" apartment was true to the description given...it was amazingly clean, warm and homey...while managing to be stylish at the same time! A great place to come home to after a winter's day in Dublin. Easily accessible to the Luas as Grainne mentions and her detailed information on all things related to the apartment and transport was really helpful, saving time on doing that sort of tedious research ourselves. It's definitely worth the walk to Kilmainham Gaol nearby and a tour is a must! I would definitely stay here again. Thank you.
What can we say? We agree with the rest of the reviews for Tim and Grainne's excellent apartment. On balance, it was exactly what we were looking for in a spacious, clean (very very clean) and well-located place to crash in Dublin. Being city dwellers, we had no problem using the LUAS from just up the street. Easy access. Amazing that Dubliners are so honest regarding the ticketing system, in fact. To be blunt, the first time we tried to use it, both machines were not working, so we hopped on and figured we would pay some other way. We did buy return tickets (day pass) so it all worked out.
Grainne and Tim were great hosts, there to meet us and say goodbye as well, and their help with drivers (one for airport/train station and one for a day tour (to the countryside outside of Dublin) were spot on. The apartment was quiet, great water pressure and hot water (critical in our view). Great resources in Grainne's book of things to see, etc. I did them a favor, too, as I tuned in the best video settings on their flat screen (color, contrast, etc). I am obsessed with that sort of thing and it needed fixing!
Only one caveat: As we are not big nightlife people, that the apartment is a bit of a hike from the City Centre didn't bother us. But if you plan on pub crawling, nights listening to music and such, the place may be too far out for late nights. In that case, it might be worth it to stay right in the City Centre. This is not a knock on the place, not at all. We just felt it was a bit of a trek via the LUAS even if we were so inclined.
In the end, we had a great time and recommend Tim and Grainne's place. A word on the issue of security...we were never concerned, not at all, that security was an issue. Inchicore is not a luxurious suburb, but it also is not a security concern. And be sure to visit the Italian place down the street at least once (we were there twice!).
While the apartment was in fact OK. Close to the Luas and Buses to Dublin and attractions, our concerns were with security and safety. We returned from a day in Dublin to find our apartment door wide open! and on top of that, we had TWO instances of individuals, with keys to our apartment, unlock the door and enter the apartment while my family was home! when challenged, they said they didn't think we were home and left. i brought this up with the owner privately and she said that her manager keeps an eye on things for her! while we have yet to find any items missing, or issues with our credit or financials, this is a total affront to your safety while staying here. Do not stay here with this owners's attitude towards your safety and security. if it were just me, a 6'4" 240lb man alone staying there i might feel different. but my 3 children and my wife were staying there with me and to find out that the home is not safe and anyone with a key can enter when your family is there or not is totally unacceptable. This is the only bad experience we had on our trip staying with Airbnb!
I am very sorry to hear this and most surprised to hear your apartment door was open. There were renovations being carried out in another apartment, and it was necessary to access it briefly to check the heating pipes. I can assure you that nothing would have been touched by either the plumber or electrician, as they are well known to us and completely honest, but I agree that it is unacceptable that they should open the door without waiting for you to answer. Tim was there on the Thursday and Friday, and our property manager checks on all guests in our absence to ensure that they have everything they need so I also surprised that you did not bring this to her attention or mine previously.
I can only apologise for your negative experience and assure you that your security was not compromised in any way during your stay. Our plumber and electrician are quite genuine and helpful people and would not be a threat to anybody in any way. We are renting apartments since 2008 and have never had an issue with security, it was simply a matter of having to access the apartment for maintenance reasons. I can assure any future guests, that should you read our previous reviews, you will see that this was an exception.
A lovely apartment within easy access of downtown Dublin. Apartment was well equipped; we were especially happy to have a french press for our coffee, extra electric converters, and a washer/dryer. The hot water was also plentiful. We felt very safe in the neighborhood, and there are groceries and several pubs (our favorite was Dillons) within close walking distance. All questions we had were answered right away by Valerie, who was wonderful. Thank you, Grainne, Tim and Valerie!
Grainne is a very nice host. She recommended several nice places in Dublin and around the area and was very precise on explaining all public transport possibilities or taxi company contacts.
The apartment was in perfect condition and very clean. It has a very cute and romantic fireplace :-) which makes it very cozy. It is a bit outside of the actual city center, which however, makes it a very nice and quiet place.
I can very much recommend the place for a stay in Dublin and Grainne and her family as very sweet hosts.
Grainne's apartment is beautiful- even prettier than the pictures! It was so open and airy and so beautifully decorated that we felt like we were staying at a 5 star hotel. The location is perfect for travelers: across the street from bus line into center city Dublin, 5 min. walk to Luas ( tram) line, and 5 min. walk to groceries. Grainne's kitchen cupboards are full of a good supply of kitchenware, so you can easily cook for yourself- but we aren't sure you will want to once you see all that Dublin has to offer to eat in the center of town! We settled for eating breakfast in so we could treat ourselves to all the wonderful restaurants for lunch and dinner. Grainne's bathroom was the most impressive we had all trip- plenty of room for two people to prep for the day at one time, and the best water pressure we experienced in Europe. She has a handy little laundry room off the bath that we put to good use after being on the road for two weeks. The water and heat are updated with modern energy saving controls, so read Grainne's instructions and you will have hot water and heat when you need it. It required just a bit of advance planning to shower 4 people each morning. Grainne provides a very thorough booklet on her counter with all the info you might need on the apartment, as well as contacts for her, her husband, and her neighbor, who checks in on you when Grainne and Tim aren't able to. The lower lkitchen cupboard is full of guide books and maps too. She sent us such great, quick, communication before our arrival, finding the place was very easy. Since we were driving a rental car across Ireland, we were very pleased to have secure gated parking behind the apt. My college aged kids loved the ability to have separate beds and good wifi connection. My only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. This was our family's first trip using airbnb, and I will definitely use airbnb again after having such a grand experience at Grainne's apt. and the other 2 places we stayed.
