The Space

Looking for a cheap bed for the night in Sheffield?
Comfortable double room available in my house, on a quiet cul-de-sac, just off the A621, 2 miles south of Sheffield railway station, on 5 major bus routes from the city centre; busses run at least every 10 minutes during the day and early evening. It's also just 6 miles from the stunningly beautiful Peak District National Park.
It's clean and friendly if a bit scruffy!
All visitors are equal but cyclists are more equal than others!
Bed linen and towels provided. Shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. Free wi-fi in the house, Virgin Media cable tv in the front room, small television with built-in DVD player in the room plus massive DVD collection!
Smoking area in back yard.
There's a variety of local ethnic shops and eateries plus a Morrison's Local supermarket and a recently renovated Victorian pub called The Broadfield, all within a few hundred yards.

  • Great place to stay. If your looking for a cheap, quite, nice place to stay I recomend Robert's rooms

  • I stayed with Robert for just one night when I visited Sheffield but I would have happily stayed longer. I booked only a day before arriving but there was no problem with the short notice and Robert got in touch straight away to give me some details and to confirm my reservation. I only met Robert briefly, as I arrived in the evening and had an early night after a busy day. However he and his son were both relaxed and friendly and made me feel instantly welcome and at home. Robert even gave me a key in case I wanted to go out during the evening and so I could let myself out when I wanted to head off in the morning.

The house is a short bus trip from the city centre and was easy to find thanks to Robert's directions, even for a first time visitor to the city.

There was a handy information pack in the room with suggestions of places to visit and also the wifi code which was really useful, as well as a tv, a wardrobe rail to hang any clothes and a towel provided so I could have a nice hot shower (perfect if like me you are travelling light). The double bed was really comfortable and I had a great nights sleep. Breakfast was all laid out downstairs for me to help myself to a selection of cereals, toast and spreads when I got up. I really liked the informal homely atmosphere.

This was my first time using Air Bnb and it was a very positive and straightforward experience and I would definitely stay with Robert again if I am back in Sheffield. It was much nicer and friendlier than staying in a hostel or a big hotel. As I was travelling alone it was also good being able to have a cup of tea and chat and to get some suggestions about the city. I really enjoyed Sheffield as a city (it was Sheffield Design Week too when I visited so there was lots going on for anyone interested in design) and I had a great day exploring some galleries, shops, parks and cafés.

  • Just as described. Robert was very welcoming and gave plenty of privacy. Good value for money

  • Wonderful host, one of the kindest and most generous ones I've stayed with thru airbnb

  • It was a good walk from the city centre to the house. Took us approx. 40 min with a heavy backpack. The house is nice, clean and sufficient for a traveller's 2 nights' stay.

  • Robert is a great host, very hospitable and helpful. His place is easy to get to from the city centre and along a road with lots of great little grocers and funky bric-a-brac shops. I walked in to different parts of town (40-50 mins) but there are regular buses too.

  • Robert's place is good value for the money and he is very happy to offer great suggestions for the newcomer to Sheffield (i.e. places to eat, rent a vehicle, etc). We took advantage of his massive DVD collection and had we'd been there longer his eclectic book shelf offered up many temptations too. Allowing the use of the washing machine was much appreciated, as was the convenient breakfasts. The room was clean with a handy clothes rack and very good wi-fi, and if you have a car it's easy to find parking on the street. Much better than staying in a hostel! Recommended!

  • My daughter and I had a lovely stay in Sheffield at Robert's house. The room was exactly as we expected - simple, but a very good quality for the price.
Robert is a charming host - who even gave us the keys to his flat while he was out, and left us a nice breakfast in the kitchen.
Finally, Robert recommended us a pub just around the corner which had great bistro food for a modest price.
    We'll come back!
