Interaction with Guests
I live downstairs with my two Bali cats , one sociable and responsive to visitors and one timid and hardly seen when other people are here.
Airport pickup and drop off can be arranged and I have contacts with massage and beauty therapists and a renowned Balinese healer/shaman and can help you arrange shopping or sightseeing with my local drivers.
This is an idyllic corner of paradise for serious rest and relaxation and a wonderful base to explore the island.
Above the Palms was everything we hoped it would be. Comfortable, relaxing and quiet. Lovely room, balcony and plunge pool. Good bathroom and shower!
Ruth is a wonderful host. She made us feel really welcome and took the time to share recommendations and stories about living in Ubud. She was particularly great when I needed to go to a doctor after a small bike accident and rang the clinic for me without hesitation, which I really appreciated.
The location on one of the small pedestrian paths in Penestanan is exceptional - the charming Yellow Flower organic cafe and Intuitive Flow yoga school further along the same path. Easy access on foot to everything around Penestanan and a 10 min walk to Ubud centre.
We really enjoyed our stay at Above the Palms and would gladly return. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Ruth is a warm hearted host that makes you feel at home the moment you walk in. The room upstairs is lovely. From the delisious breakfast to the many tips and great advice. Ruth is there to make you feel home away.
We had a relaxing few days staying with Ruth in Ubud. Ruth's place is excellently located with a few great cafes within close proximity. The place is set within the rainforest, so be prepared for all aspects of nature, including a wildlife wake up call.
Ruth, herself, is a helpful and caring host, she looked after us very well and attended to all our needs, including recommending places to eat and activities. Breakfast was great on the balcony as well.
I loved staying Above the Palms Trees. Ruth is the perfect host, very warm and welcoming, making sure I had everything I needed. The space is beautifully setup up in a natural setting, the atmosphere peaceful and tranquil, which was lovely to return to after exploring the hustle and bustle of downtown Ubud. The village of Penestanan is beautiful and it was a novelty to only have to walk two minutes to an amazing café and four minutes to a beautiful yoga studio, along a scenic pathway from Ruth’s house and not see any motor vehicles. I also enjoyed the company of Ruth’s cats Mama Mas and Simba on the verandah, the delicious breakfast and taking a dip in the pool. I feel fortunate to have met Ruth and been a guest in the beautiful home she has created.
My husband and I stayed with Ruth for a week. The house is lovely, the room is beautiful and the setting is delightful!
The room has so much attention to detail with lovely furnishings and a wonderful bed. We spent most of our time out on the wide balcony lounging around reading on the daybed and eating at the gorgeous table and chairs.
At night we would fall asleep to a symphony of frogs and cicadas and wake in the morning to the calls of roosters across the rice paddies. It was utterly delightful! There was a cool breeze through the night and Ruth was most hospitable to allow us to use the pool in the afternoons after exploring the winding mountain streets and the busy network of pathways throughout Ubud district.
I was a little unwell for a couple of days and Ruth and her lovely assistant Kadek were so kind and caring. Ruth shared her local knowledge and gave excellent suggestions that made our adventures really fun.
We recommend staying at this wonderful house with a very warm and generous host. Staying with Ruth in her abode really made our holiday special.
Ruth was a very welcoming kind host. She gives you all the information around the area, where to go for food, massages etc really helpful. Loved her place. It's very peaceful, surrounded by rice fields palm trees the sound of the roosters in the morning absolutely lovely. And the room/balcony was really nice and it looked exactly like in the pictures. Loved having breakfast on the balcony with an awesome view. The area is safe and close to ubud central. Ruths house is on a small narrow pathway so don't forget to take the torch with you!
I had a fabulous time staying at Ruths place and I would definitely recommend it and going back there if I go to Bali again.

I’m a permanent resident originally from Australia (actually born in England but lived most of my life in Aus) with a love of Bali, its people and its culture. I love good food and In Sydney some years ago I had a cafe.
I enjoy having guests in my home and helping them get the most out of their stay, but I also respect people's privacy.
I’m into yoga and meditation and being healthy (as much as I can with such a love of food) . I’m passionate about colour and design, love travel, love sharing the things I know about and work towards balance in my life.
Here I am fascinated by the culture - continually learning more about the ceremonies, special occasions, and temple decorations. I love the gentleness of the Balinese people and how they are always smiling and willing to talk and help people. I am also grateful for the peace and tranquility living here offers - it really is a magical place.
