Our distinctive mountain lodge features charming private rooms, spacious common areas, delicious breakfasts, and art and dinner events most nights. All surrounded by some of the most beautiful forests in Costa Rica. We look forward to your visit!
We have several room options with shared bath, from single occupancy up to 3 guests. The double occupancy price is $40/night, this includes all taxes and breakfast for two. An additional guest would be $16, which also includes breakfast. The lodge has a large common area with free wi-fi for guests, a lounge with a large library, and large common room / dining area. You may use the common areas at your leisure! Seasonally you may find snacks and goodies for sale. We have four chickens, one cat and three dogs; in short, we are a pet-friendly lodge :)
We are situated at the edge of the Monteverde Cloud Forest, and the views and sounds are simply breathtaking. Wake up to the sound of a Bellbird, and to a view of biodiversity like you wouldn't believe! Our house was one of the first built in Monteverde, and its quirky, wooden style is part of our charm. You will find us in Monteverde proper, well outside of Santa Elena yet still less than a 10 min. ($5) cab ride away. Although, you don't have to go far to find anything that you need in Monteverde, we have a locally-sourced food store and several restaurants within a 5-10 minute walk and almost all of the sights you came here to see in the first place are right outside our door! The Cheese Factory and the Friends School/Meetinghouse are both just minutes away by foot.
At La Colina we can set up all of your recreational activities and tours right from our front desk, just ask! We can also provide information and set up transportation to and from many major areas in the country for you if needed.
Ask us about group rates, package deals and our yoga/conference area which can be rented as well for group activities!
We accept colones or US dollars.

Offering a tour desk to help design the perfect visit to Monteverde, group breakfasts in the morning, and live music and art events in the evenings, you will get well acquainted with both Mauricio and the rest of the staff during your stay with us! :)
Parking is available for those traveling in their own car, and taxi service is fast and reliable for those without. There are several options to arrive here from the airport, and we are happy to help arrange any transportation necessary!
Nice little room with every basic facilities. The shared room was a bit crowded every now and then, because it was also used for other purposes. The people of La Colina Lodge are friendly and helpful when we asked for help planning some tours or dinner nearby.
We enjoyed our stay at La Colina Lodge. Andrea on reception was really helpful in booking tours and our onward accommodation. She even came in on her day off to make us an early breakfast! On the downside the shower was cold on the first day and our room felt quite small and dated.
Front desk staff were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Location is close to the Monteverde Reserve but a bit away from Santa Elena. Thankfully, there are several places to eat only a 10 minute walk away. Bring a flashlight as the road is quite dark at night.
Rooms are colorfully decorated but somewhat dated. Bathroom was clean and plenty of hot water. Good value considering the price.
Kelly and everyone at La Colina Lodge was very kind, helpful and attentive. I wish I could have stayed there for more than one night to take advantage of the gorgeous yoga studio. They also have a cool book swap area that's the largest I've seen while traveling around the west coast of CR, so remember to bring a book! The weather in Monteverde can get chilly but La Colina's sheets were numerous and plenty warm, even for someone like me who loves being swaddled.
The location is pretty remote but close to the reserve's entrance. The roads are basically dirt and rock. My rented Hyundai Elantra made it with no problems, but I don't know of this would have been the case had I traveled in the middle of rainy season.
Overall this is a really great place to stay. The hosts are kind, the rooms are clean and you get to sleep in what feels like the heart of the jungle. I would definitely recommend this lodge to anyone staying in Monteverde who is looking for a relaxing location and would personally stay again in the future.

La Colina was opened as the FlorMar in 1977 by Marvin Rockwell, one of the original Quaker settlers of the area, and has been a family owned homestyle bed and breakfast for 20+ years. Starting in January 2014, La Colina Lodge is being run by Mauricio, Edda and the rest of the fabulous staff and volunteers, lending a new energy to the historic site. In addition to our rooms, we have a Cafe/Restaurant featuring locally grown organic vegetables, regular live music, documentary and independent movie nights, art exhibitions and poetry readings. We look forward to your visit with us!
