The space

Mid century modern beach house. The 1-bedroom/1 bath home is detached from the main house with a separate entrance and privacy screens.

3 large skylights - providing beautiful natural light.

A 'Nano-House' - based on the philosophy 'less is more'
While maximizing living space with minimal environmental impact.

ALL electricity production is via Solar.

Salvaged materials have been incorporated wherever possible. Extensive use of high efficient LED and CFL lights are used throughout. Laundered items are washed in eco-friendly soap, and generally dried in the sun. The house is cleaned with eco-friendly products.

'Unlimited bottled water' (w/o the plastic) - we purchase it, in bulk, from a local man that purifies it... we think its the next best thing to rain water :)

The house represents a crisp, modern, and minimalistic design.

As Owner/Designers...we welcome you!

Guest access

The guest house is equipped with a full kitchen - includes dishwasher, fridge, gas stove top/gas oven, cooking tools and dishware. No microwave. Of course, condiments are provided ( salt, pepper, olive oil, balsamic, herbs, etc...)

There is a small dining table, large mahogany bar counter top, and options for outdoor dining.

The bedroom has a queen size, memory foam mattress (super comfy), and floor-to-ceiling closets, plus a small, built in, mahogany desk. Basic office supplies are also provided, even fax/scan, if req'd.

Large walk-in shower + Outdoor shower - for after beach activities.

Hi-speed Wifi

Shared yard with outdoor dining area and small patio.

Full sized washer and dryer (includes bio degradable detergent) located on exterior of main house.

Outdoor BBQ

The sofa in the main room is super comfy...and sleeps additional person, if needed.

No A/C, but you won't need it. The weather is amazing year-round and there is a beautiful breeze off the ocean. House is equipped with a gas wall furnace.

Need anything else?? Just ask!

Interaction with guests

We live next door and welcome interaction. We'll take your lead on how much....we are willing to be local guides, take you on a hike, Brian might take you for a surf, share a glass of wine or craft brew with you, and show you what we love about San Diego. We are also fine with giving you heaps of privacy and your own space!

The neighborhood

Nestled in a beautiful coastal hillside just north of San Diego, "Del Mar Terrace," is a eclectic, upscale neighborhood of long-time residents. At night, you'll hear the ocean waves and in the morning awake to views of the lagoon and Torrey Pines state beach. The central Del Mar business district is a 5 minute drive for shopping, dining, farmers market, etc.

You can easily visit all the coastal beach communities - Solana Beach, Cardiff, Encinitas. Downtown San Diego is a 20-45 minute drive, depending on traffic.

Getting around

Parking on the property is included - plus ample street parking, if needed.

Our home is located approximately 15 miles from the San Diego International Airport. If you are driving or renting a car, we will provide directions. Longer term guests: happy to collect you, if need be, at airport ;)

Other things to note

We have a dog named Maya. She is mixed breed, 7 years young, mellow and friendly.

Kids are welcome.

FOR GUEST USE: 2 lightweight mountain bikes + helmets, boogie board, surfboards (soft and hard) skateboard, ping pong table, beach towels, umbrella, cooler, +++

The location is soo absolutely beautiful, can I please just live here?! Everything that we needed was already put into the guesthouse to make your stay the most comfortable experience you could ever ask for. It's beautifully decorated, and everything is so clean and aesthetically gorgeous that you almost never want to leave this place! And Brian's dog, Maya, is the sweetest dog I have ever met in my entire life! A little tin box labeled as "Maya's treats" we're in the kitchen, and every afternoon Maya would drop by for snuggles and a couple treats before she moves on with her day to probably gain more treats elsewhere, haha What I loved most about this particular getaway spot is that the outside is just as beautiful as the inside! The decor of this place is absolutely stunning, there isn't a nook or cranny that isn't adorned with little trinkets and pops of color, and the neighboring houses are just as unique and beautiful in their own way; perfect for pictures! And if you and if you walk a little further down the street there is an amazing view of grassy wetlands that looks like something off of images. This place was also located to nearby plazas that have some amazing restaurants and stores to shop in/ get groceries from. Abuse the heck out of Yelp, you won't regret it! Overall, an amazing stay! We loved it so much, I plan to come back again in the future!

Brian's place was, quiet honestly, my best Airbnb experience yet! The design of Brian's entire place was just to die for. Sadly, we only were in town for one night but Brian's place made our business trip much more enjoyable. PS Brian's dog is the cutest thing ever!

My husband and I booked our weeklong vacation at Brain & Jana's 7 months in advance, and our experience surely did not disappoint. Everything was wonderful. First, the location: we had a rental car and felt that the location was easy to find and easily accessible to the Interstate. We were able to go anywhere in the San Diego area with ease. In addition, the place is about a 10 minute walk from the beach; we would take a walk or jog there daily and that was the highlight of each day. The house is also near the Torrey Pines State Reserve, which offered a wonderful hike (and Brian and Jana provide you with a parking pass!). Second: Brian was a great host; he allowed us to check-in early since the house was ready to go and gave us a thorough introduction to the place as well as some really great restaurant recommendations. In particular, his recommendations for Ken Sushi Workshop and Lockwood Table Cafe resulted in the two best meals of our trip (and as for the sushi--the best in my life!). He was always easily available if we had any questions or concerns, but also left us to ourselves and wasn't overly present. Third: The house itself. The pictures are true to what you can expect. The home overall is simply beautiful; the kitchen is functional and fun to cook in (complete with a citrus juicer to make fresh OJ!); the shower is large and clean; and the bed is extremely comfortable. We also took advantage of the available laundry facilities (shared with the main house) as well as the ping pong table in the backyard. There was also beach gear available, which we promised ourselves we would use if we ever return in the summertime! Overall, we highly recommend Brian & Jana's for your stay in San Diego and we hope to return someday in the future!

Brian went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable in his guest house and provided everything we needed and then some. The place was beautiful and clean. Before we even arrived I received communication and ideas for site-seeing. We will definitely stay here again when we return.
