Interaction with Guests
We live next door and welcome interaction. We'll take your lead on how much....we are willing to be local guides, take you on a hike, Brian might take you for a surf, share a glass of wine or craft brew with you, and show you what we love about San Diego. We are also fine with giving you heaps of privacy and your own space!
Nestled in a beautiful coastal hillside just north of San Diego, "Del Mar Terrace," is a eclectic, upscale neighborhood of long-time residents. At night, you'll hear the ocean waves and in the morning awake to views of the lagoon and Torrey Pines state beach. The central Del Mar business district is a 5 minute drive for shopping, dining, farmers market, etc.
You can easily visit all the coastal beach communities - Solana Beach, Cardiff, Encinitas. Downtown San Diego is a 20-45 minute drive, depending on traffic.
Parking on the property is included - plus ample street parking, if needed.
Our home is located approximately 20 miles from the San Diego International Airport. If you are driving or renting a car, we will provide directions. Longer term guests: happy to collect you, if need be, at airport ;)

Brian and Jana were dream hosts, and we loved everything about our stay -- from the ideal location to the wonderful hospitality of our hosts. It was a joy to stay in Brian and Jana's unique modern beach house, and we would love to do so again in the future. Thanks for a wonderful stay!
We arrived in Del Mar and were greeted by Maya which was an immediate good sign because even the dog was awesome. Brian came out and showed us to our place and gave us a quick tour. He was helpful and pretty much gave us all the info we could possibly ask for. Now on to the house, the house was perfect. An awesome kitchen equipped with everything you may need (with a tiny dishwasher that I wanted to use the entire time) the bedroom was clean with a temperpedic bed. The Shower was the best and almost everything was provided for us. We could not have asked for better hosts. Brian and Jana were simply put, the best.
My wife and I have done Airbnb a number of times, and without question this is the best place we have ever stayed. Brian and Jana obviously have wonderful taste as (as shown in the photos of their place) but they made some amazing food recommendations that really made our trip. We are really hoping to come back and visit again!
Jana and Brian made our stay in Del Mar a truly memorable one. They were such kind hosts and a true pleasure to spend time with. The Beach House was amazing. It was fully supplied with all the necessities and more. My husband especially loved the use of the surfboards. It was even more beautiful than in the pictures and the neighborhood was amazing, a true sunny California dream. We slept like babies! Jana offered us tickets to the modern photography art museum and we took advantage of their pass to the Torrey Pines State Natural reserve. We especially loved the warm welcome of their doggy, Maya, who our daughter loved to play ball with. This was one of our first airbnb experiences and we have nothing but great things to say. We will definitely be back!
Brian and Jana were wonderful hosts. Not only did they provide a wonderful vacation home, but they were extremely helpful and made sure that we knew where to find the best beaches, restaurants, local sites, etc. They even provided a parking pass for the Torrey Pines Reserve, which is just minutes away. The guest house is beautifully designed and very comfortable. Having the outdoor space was really great for our little boy. All in all, a really great experience!
This was my first Airbnb experience and the bar is set extremely high. Brian and Jana were excellent hosts. Upon arrival Brian showed us (my mom and me) where to find anything we might need inside the house- cooking essentials, towels, washer and dryer, and ping pong paddles (great table in the yard next to the house, where I got to showcase my mediocre skills). They made us feel welcome, comfortable and at home.
The house was perfect. Beautifully decorated with photos and paintings chosen by Jana, and exceptionally clean.
The neighborhood was safe, quiet, and active. I loved seeing everyone out running, cycling, and walking about the Torrey Pines Reserve area, which you're able to see right at the end of the street.
We took advantage of two passes to MOPA: Museum of Photographic Art in Balboa Park, enjoyed delicious sashimi & fresh-caught lobster, and made friends with their awesome dog Maya. Talk about a dog with a great personality.
Obviously, I recommend staying here.
Thanks again, Brian & Jana!
I just left Brian and Jana's beautiful home, and I'm not sure what I'm going to miss the most ... the warmth and hospitality of B and J, the hipster coolness of their dog, Maya, or the fact that I could ride the bike (graciously provided) to Torrey Pines State Park in a matter of minutes.
The trails at the main park and at the Extension (at the end of Del Mar Scenic Parkway) were breathtaking.
There are a few restaurants just a few minutes walk from the house, but I only sampled the Sam's Pizzeria, as I was traveling alone, and after a long day biking and hiking I just wanted some quick comfort food (great slices and fries!!).
The main business area of Del Mar is just minutes away by car or 15 by bike ... and it looked like it was filled with shopping and edible opportunities, but again it was all about the natural exploring for me in the 36 hours I had.
I was attending a conference in downtown SD at the Convention Center, and I was only a 15-minute drive away.
The house was spotless, tastefully decorated, and just the perfect size for me (and my wife had she joined me).
I can't say enough, and obviously I'd be back again in a heartbeat.
Thanks, Brian and Jana ... and I hope Maya is released from the injured reserve list soon as I really wanted to play ball with her.
We are parents, we love food/cooking, travel, yoga, surfing, gardening, architecture, art, sustainable living, community, living responsibly, and good beer ;)
