The Space

This coastal dwelling has been fully retrofitted by myself as a small eco-conscious model for simple sustainable elemental living. It is ideal for individuals and couples who are eco-conscious, mindful, creative and love and appreciate simple minimalist living. This space is my holistic healing + visual arts studio so it is a sacred expression of who I am and how I walk in the world and what I want to offer to my community and people on journey. It is also my meditation and sanctuary space where I rejuvenate and reconnect with myself and loved ones. My intention is to share my home with like-minded individuals who are looking to live consciously, creatively and be inspired by small dwellings that rest gently on the earth, that celebrates beauty, craft, serenity and light. All interior and exterior furnishings and fine art assemblages are hand crafted, designed and built by myself the owner or custom built by local artisans using recycled & reclaimed material. There is a full kitchen with professional Wolf range and refrigerator for those interested in cooking & dining in. The space is creatively vibrant while simultaneously calm and serene with ample natural light filtering in throughout the morning, day and dusk hours. A newly built front porch and landscape welcomes you while the back yard opens to a patio for outdoor dining and relaxing. My home is in the banana belt area of Monterey Bay, a working class coastal neighborhood with great diversity, diverse ethnic cuisine, authenticity and conveniently located right next to Monterey, Carmel & Pacific Grove, Carmel Valley and Big Sur just off Hwy One. The house is only five minutes to Monterey, Carmel and the Monterey Airport. It is half way between Santa Cruz & Big Sur for those traveling up or down the Highway One corridor to LA or SF. There is also a bus line that stops just at the end of my street for easy transportation into Monterey for the day or evening if you are traveling by plane or are not wanting to drive. The house is a mile from Del Monte beach in Seaside and the coastal bike path that can take you into Monterey, Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach for the day. Come and enjoy what this beautiful Peninsula has to offer! Beautiful coastal and inland hiking and bike trails, kayaking, surfing, diving, hang gliding, horseback riding and site seeing- a photographer's dream! Come taste our locally grown food and offerings at various local and independent farmer's markets and stores throughout the Peninsula- local brews, wineries, art & culture.

Guest Access

Guests will have access to the entire house while (email hidden) Coastal Urban Sanctuary- Bedroom, bath, kitchen, living room & computer work station in the dining area. Outdoor dining also an option. The kitchen is stocked with basic cook ware & unique hand-crafted pottery made by family and friends. Laundry & pantry room is not accessible and Guests are asked for photo ID, license or Passport upon check in along with car license info if applicable. This is intended to be a quiet sanctuary space for visitors. No partiers, smoking or additional guests/visitors.

Interaction with Guests

My interaction is minimal with guests, short and sweet, allowing them the space to create their experience as they wish and see fit. My intention is to meet each guest in person, however, I realize this might not always be possible. Early check in hours, 3-5pm, is best for me in welcoming you in person, however, this might not always be possible due to work commitments. I am always available to communicate by phone to answer any questions or needs that you might have before or during your stay. I appreciate communication prior to arrival as to when your exact arrival time will be so we can coordinate logistics and your stay.

The Neighborhood

My neighborhood is raw, authentic, diverse and humble in nature. It's the working class neighborhood of Monterey, more urban in character yet still neighborly and inviting. I love it because it's honest, real and not pretentious. It has the feel of a city in a coastal town, currently growing and expanding into a beautiful sustainable model for living. It's visually understated, some finding a bit rough around the edges in comparison to adjacent Carmel, however, as an artist, designer and simple person who enjoys simple living, I greatly appreciate, value and see the beauty in this and also beyond this.

Getting around

There is a convenient public transit just a block from my house that can take you in to Monterey. The Monterey airport is less than ten minutes away and Highway One is just a mile away. I recommend if you have bikes and are avid cyclists to bike into Monterey and Pacific Grove from my house. You will experience the Monterey Bay in an intimate way along the coast, amongst the Cypress and Eucalyptus trees. Getting around is easy!

  • We loved the Green Coastal house in Seaside. We were a little nervous because of the neighborhood, but it wasn't an issue. Although there were extra fireworks going off late at night, probably left over from the 4th of July. The house is simple and has everything you need. It's built for two people max, but, if you wanted to have guest over for drinks it would fit four people. The full kitchen is nice, we were able to get a few groceries and have picnic kind of food. The architecture of the house is great and the light is so amazing, that you don't need the lights during the day.
Okay, so reality check for high maintenance people like me. My husband was totally fine with these things, but just beware of these things if you're like me.

#1. There is no TV. I'm okay with this but after awhile, it was too quiet for me.
#2. There is no air conditioner. Again, it was okay because the temp in Seaside was like 60 during the day and 50 at night, but we had to open and close windows, I'm just not use to it.
#3. The bed and the sofa was very firm.
#4. There is no kitchen/breakfast table. We made do, but sometimes, you just want to sit somewhere and have your coffee.
#5. There is no dishwasher. I'm okay with this and happy to wash dishes, but I thought twice about making a full meal.
#6. The Wolf range is intimidating. I'm no chef, but I am a foodie who knows her way around a commercial kitchen, but the range is older and I was a little nervous using it.
#7. Although the windows are wonderful, there is very little window coverings. There is a house in the back that can see right into the bedroom from their bedroom. We kept our bathroom and bedroom door shut most of the time.

These things would not deter me from staying there again if we were going back. They are things to be aware of. Overall, we enjoyed having a place to relax after busy days.
The hostess Tracy was great and was very responsive to our emails and needs. What she has creative is impressive and her art is beautiful!

  • Loved staying at Tracy's place. It was the perfect end to a long day of driving up the coast! We didn't mind that it was a bit off the beaten path...we enjoyed being able to just enjoy the space and relax.

  • With great fortune, I was able to book Tracy's place for a short weekend stay. Being a short drive to Monterey and Carmel, the location was great and it was easy to find.

The house has a modern but comfortable and homey feel. It was very clean, plenty of natural lighting, and the surrounding neighborhood was very quiet. Although we didn't cook or eat in, the kitchen seemed to have all the essential tools and utensils. The bathroom is a little small but it was perfect for two people and the dual shower head was a nice bonus. The bed, I believe, was queen size and very comfortable.

Communication with Tracy was very easy. She was prompt in responding to my emails and was very kind.

    I highly recommend Tracy's place!

  • Wonderful clean and modern cute house tucked away in Seaside. Super convenient as it is close to Monterey, the wharf, aquarium, and Carmel. Tracy was very accommodating and she has very good taste. Wish we could have stayed longer! Would definitely recommend this to anyone!

  • The Urban Sanctuary was very well designed and beautiful. It is perfect for two people looking for a small oasis. I would not recommend this place if you were looking to do a lot of (email hidden) as it has a very minimal kitchen. The neighborhood is a little dicey, but the home itself is wonderful.

  • We loved our stay at Tracy's home! She has created a space that is truly a Sanctuary. The whole place was a work of art with every detail intentionally selected - an extension of her work as an artist. Parking was easy and the location was perfect for trips to Big Sur, Monterey, Carmel and the coast.
