Your cozy room in Chinatown

Apartment - Private room · Madison Street, New York, NY 10002, United States

Neat & clean private room available. The apartment is in Chinatown/LES/Two Bridges area, close to transportation (F, 4/5/6, B/D) and good food! Great old neighborhood feel, near Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges, East River, bike paths, and parks.

The Space

Cute apartment in great Chinatown location (also called Two Bridges, and Airbnb calls it Civic Center). Old New York feel and easy access to trains and lots of great neighborhoods including Soho, Little Italy, the Lower East Side, and the Financial District. Many Citibike stations nearby as well.

Room includes a closet and small dresser, fold out bed (with a real mattress, not a futon and not springy), bookshelf, and a chair.

The room is about 8x7 and looks just like it does in the photos! Plenty of storage space and shelves.

Guest Access

Queer friendly apartment. Third floor walk up. A very sweet chihuahua who doesn't bark lives here but doesn't have to go in your room.

KITCHEN: Use the kitchen all you want! If you plan to eat a lot the apt, let me know and I'll make sure you have space in the fridge and on a shelf. I also provide breakfast food (coffee, tea, bread, butter, jam, cereal, eggs) for stays up to a week. Let me know in advance if you have any dietary concerns re: allergies, vegan, gluten, etc. I usually have soy milk so let me know if you'd like dairy, lactose-free, rice milk...

If you need a computer, please bring your own. And yes, there is wifi.

Towel and sheets provided. If you plan to stay more than a week, I will gladly wash the sheets and towels. Please! don't wash the sheets or towels yourself.

Interaction with Guests

I work from home quite a bit so I'm here to answer your questions, but there's no pressure to hang out or socialize. And please don't hesitate to ask (before you arrive or when you're here) for suggestions of places to visit, eat, etc. I can also provide maps and directions and, with some notice, discount tickets for movies, the MoMA, theatre, opera, Carnegie Hall and more (via my student discounts around the city).

The Neighborhood

You'll be in Chinatown with a lot of great, cheap food (ask for directions and recommendations!); about a 10min walk to Little Italy; 15-20 to SoHo; and 10-20 to Lower East Side spots. The apartment is walking distance to the New Museum, Tenement Museum, LES galleries, a lot of bars and restaurants, and easy access to the three downtown bridges for biking or walking to Brooklyn.

There are a lot of corner stores, a Rite Aid, and pharmacies nearby. There is laundry across the street, or another one (that I prefer) on Henry Street just through the parking lot next to my building.

Grocery stores:
- C Town on St. James/Pearl. Go right out of the building, walk down Madison until it seems to end (at St James), make a left and you'll see the C Town in the left. About a 5min walk. You'll also see Rite Aid if you cross St James and go past where it seems like Madison ends. It's on the right.
- Whole Foods is on Houston between Bowery and Chrystie. The F train to 2nd Ave or the M103 bus up Bowery will get you there. The M103 stop is at Oliver and Pearl/Bowery; get off the bus at Houston (about 10min ride or a 20min walk)
- Trader Joe's is at 14th and 3rd Ave (take the M15 bus from Madison and Catherine to 14th and 1st Ave, walk west down 14th for two avenues) OR at 21st and 6th Ave (F train to 23rd, walk two blocks against traffic on 6th, it's on the right).
- There's a great, cheap produce market on Forsyth next to the Manhattan bridge. Go left out of the apartment, left on Market, right on Division and then left after you go under the bridge. You'll see it!
- There's also a new supermarket on the ground floor of the Marriott hotel on Pike and Henry.

A lot of movies and TV shows film in the area, so you might get to see that.

Getting around

TRANSPORTATION: Closest train is the F at East Broadway, but the B/D are 10 minutes away at Grand, and the 4/5/6/J/Z are about 12 minutes away at City Hall. The M15 (local and express) stop at the corner.

Other Things to Note

Small dog allowed on a case by case basis for short stays. Contact me if you are traveling with a pet and we'll see what we can work out!

About "check in" and "check out" times:
- Before 12:00pm check out is really only necessary when there is another guest coming in the day you're leaving (and dependent on their arrival time). If no one is reserved, feel free to hang out as long as you'd like! And even if a guest is coming in, you are welcome to leave your things at the apartment as long as you need.
- After 2pm check in, likewise, is only really necessary when there is someone leaving that day and I need time to get the room ready.
Either way, please let me know when you think you'll be arriving/leaving so I can work out timing!

  • Super location and everything is as described!

  • Erin was an awesome host. Super friendly and very responsive to texts and e-mails. She was very accommodating for my early arrival and early departure a few days later.

The place itself is very cool. The room was clean and neat. It was very close to the F train which helped when I needed to meet-up with friends and go to Penn Station for my departure. It's walking distance to the 9-11 memorial. It's also a hop, skip, and jump away from some of the best Dim Sum places in New York. Yum!!

  • Erin was fun to talk to and her place was lovely, would recommend.

  • Erin was a great host. Warm, welcoming, and interesting. Her place is very nice, though you can't tell from the street. The place is super clean and the room is very comfortable. Good cheap food abounds in the immediate vicinity, and the entire smorgasbord of the Lower East Side is just a few minutes walk away.

  • Erin was awesome. Super friendly and welcoming. She showed me around, gave her Citibike key, and let me hang out with her cats. I would definitely stay at her place again. The apartment is small, but you don't need much when your in NYC. It's located conveniently to the Lower East Side as well as Brooklyn and there are tons of subway stops close by.

In short: Erin is awesome; definitely stay there!

  • I was referred to AirBnB by a friend and when I requested for a place, Erin was kind enough to accept when my profile had no prior reviews. Even though she wasn't around when I had arrived at the place, she had provided all the necessary information beforehand - with clear directions and ensured I was able to find the place and check in without a problem. Full marks for organization.
The place is tidy , clean and with character - loved it. It is pretty close to a lot of NY hotspots. Erin herself is a great person who is really kind, considerate and helpful. Thanks to Erin, her place (and Lola & Ceci ) who made sure my visit to the Big Apple was one I wouldnt forget.

  • The place of Erin is great! I immediately felt at home. The room is nice and clean. It's not big, but if you are in NY, it's all you need. The subway is right around the corner which is very handy. It's fantastic that Erin provides breakfast and you can use the fridge too.
During my stay Erin wasn't there, but a friend of her was and she was so lovely!

In other words: great value for money! I would definitely stay here again!

  • I had a great stay - Erin is an excellent host and a great person. The room is cosy and clean, in a lovely apartment, breakfast included; centrally located in vibrant Downtown Manhattan, close to everything you could ever possibly need. Highly recommended - plus, extra points for the most delightful dog I have ever encountered!

  • I had a great stay at Erin's place. All as advertised, apartment was clean and quiet and the neighborhood is interesting to explore. Erin is a great host and her cats kept me company when having my morning coffee. Thanks also for sharing your citibike key with me. Discovering the city by bike is really great fun and very convenient.
