The space

This beautiful country house was built in the nineteenth century and was used for many years as a farm house. It has been recently renovated with a new kitchen, a comfortable lounge and three spacious bedrooms but still has many of its original features preserved - including two open fireplaces and the two distinctive huge arch windows in the lounge which overlook the garden beneath.

It is a beautiful, isolated rural setting and we invite you to burn wood on the open fireplaces and harvest fresh vegetables from our vegetable garden!

The house is surrounded by a field with olive and fruit trees and has views of the medieval towns of Bomarzo and Soriano in the distance as well as the magnificent mountains of Cimini. Ideal base for day trips to many places of historic and artistic interest in Umbria, Lazio and Tuscany.

Beautiful throughout the year - this is a great place to escape to if you're looking for an inspiring location to stay in the Italian countryside or a relaxing base from which to explore the areas of Tuscany and Umbria.

Guest access

You will have exclusive access to the whole house. The house is on two floors, very spacious and sunny. You can park your car next to the house.

Interaction with guests

We like to leave our guests their peace and privacy. But we are also very happy to offer tips and advice of places to visit and things to do! Please just ask.

The neighborhood

Centrally located between Umbria, Lazio & Tuscany: 1 hr to Rome & FCO airport, 2 hrs to Florence.

There are plenty of places to explore in the surrounding area. The beautiful medieval hill-top town of Vitorchiano is just 3 miles away and the historic town of Civita di Bagnoregio is about 9 miles away.

This is a volcanic area, where about 100.000 years ago a series of volcanoes shaped this beautiful landscape. You can swim and enjoy a relaxing day at the Lake of Bolsena, the biggest volcanic lake in Europe!

Not far from the house there are several thermal springs and natural swimming pools with warm water all the year. Just pick your favourite pool and relax!

The house is on the doorstep of the "Park of Monsters" and "Monte Casoli Natural Park" - important not only for their natural features but also for their great historical and archaeological value.

Tuscia is one of the most beautiful and fascinating areas of the Lazio region. It is the ideal place to spend a holiday, full of charm and magic in the heart of Italy.

Getting around

The house is in a rural setting. We advise you to come by car so that you're able to fully explore the area.

The nearest train station is Grotte Santo Stefano, 2km from the house with connections to Rome, Orvieto, Viterbo, Florence.

Other things to note

The country house is in a beautiful rural setting. We'd advise you to bring a car for easy access to the nearby towns.

The Casale Le Bifore has a lot of potential - its in a beautiful area in the country and surrounded by farms. You definitely need a vehicle, but its a lovely house and you have access to many hilltop towns in the area. Licia, Federico and Maria were happy to help with any problems that came about but there was some lack of communication because of the area and intermittent cell service plus no internet. The lack of a land line in the house made it difficult to communicate. Had an adorable calico cat that was the daily house welcome comity!

We loved our relaxing 2 weeks at Casale Le Bifore. The house is beautiful, spacious and light, and the beds extremely comfortable. The views from the upper living room, and the evening sunsets in the garden, are particularly wonderful. Checking in and out was easy, and Licia was on hand and very helpful with tips for places to visit. You need a car, but with one the area has lots to offer. We enjoyed meals outside, days walking through nearby woods and exploring the region's towns, hot springs, gardens, and even an afternoon on the beach. Bare in mind that you are living on farmland, not in the wilderness, and that the house is old - so expect tractors, sheep, dogs, some large insects etc. All good things! We really hope to stay again.

Our family really enjoyed our 5 night stay in the farmhouse. It was a lovely peaceful retreat. Our 3 young kids loved the outdoor space and spent lots of time digging, playing in the hammock, and exploring. There is a lovely area set aside inside as a kids space, which our kids really enjoyed. The farmhouse is close to the charming town of Vitorchiano and close to Viterbo, both of which we really enjoyed. Licia provided lots of really useful information on things to do in the area - many of which we did, including Lake Bolsena, the park of monsters and the hot springs. All very interesting. It does really help to have a car to explore this beautiful area of Italy.

We loved the Stonehouse. It is beautiful old farm house with lots of original features. Some people may find it a bit basic but we found that really appealing and prefect for us. It was a great place to explore the area with lots if interesting things to do round about. We would love to return as we had a great stay.

We had a wonderful time with family and friends at Licia's house. The house is spacious, beautiful, clean and the location perfect for exploring the area. One can see the attention and care it was put in setting up this space. Licia and her family were extremely warm and accommodating, and kept in touch with us for the entire stay. Licia picked us up from the train station, although she was in a hurry to catch a flight (thank you again!) and her brother made sure we had everything we needed. Many thanks to you and your family again for sharing this gem with us. We do hope to be back again.

If you need some quiet time, this is the place. Quite secluded from the rest of the world this spacious stone house is the perfect place to relax. Very nice night sky! Comes with a hammock. To explore the surrounding attractions or just go buy bread you will need a car. We enjoyed our stay in the stone house. Recommended!

October 2013. We really enjoyed our 5 day stay at the stone house. Licia was in Scotland but her mum, Marie, looked after us. She pointed out places to visit and even invited us around for dinner one night even though she spoke limited English. From afar, Licia gave us excellent directions by SMS to find the stone house and also later on, to locate a nearby ancient site called Corvanio. The stone house was very clean and comfortable and was well located to nearby attractions. Grocery shopping was available in both Grotte Santo Stefano [2 kms] and Vitorchiano [5 kms]. No issues with parking but the reality is that you really do need a car to get around here. Unfortunately there was no WiFi or washing machine available at the time of our stay. My wife became attached to the cute little farm cat which we fed each day. All in all it was a great stay and we hope to return one day.
