Traditional Stonehouse in Tuscia

House - Entire home/apt · Strada Piano, Vitorchiano, Lazio 01030, Italy

We would like to invite to stay in our beautiful stonehouse - everything you need to experience the Italian countryside way of life!

The Space

This is a nineteenth-century stone farmhouse that has been recently refurbished. It has three sunny spacious bedrooms, two fireplaces and everything to live the perfect italian countryside experience.

It has a spacious garden with olive trees and fruit trees and is surrounded by an amazing landscape of ancient volcanoes, lush woods, hills and rivers and the two medieval towns of Bomarzo and Soriano in the distance. Situated between natural and archeological parks, it's the perfect place for walkers, cyclers, climbers and nature lovers. Nearby there are several thermal SPA, well known since the Roman time.

Well connected to Rome and Florence. It's easier to travel in the surrounding by car.
The train station is just 2 km away, and by train you can reach the lake in 10 minutes, and then Rome, Orvieto, Viterbo, Florence.
We are 60 miles from Rome, 30 miles from Toscany, 5 miles from Umbria.

One of the nearest towns is Vitorchiano, 4 km away. Vitorchiano is famous for the typical grey stone that has been used for construction since the Etruscan age. The town has managed to retain its medieval nature and attracts tourists from the surrounding areas that come here to relax in the natural settings.

The house is at the doorsteps of the "Monte Casoli Natural Park", important not only for its naturalistic features, but also for its great historical and archaeological value.

Tuscia is one of the most beautiful and fascinating areas of the Lazio region, one of the most significant archaeological and historical level, a witness to an ancient past, marked by the presence of populations of the Etruscans and Romans, who founded this city, streets communication and cemeteries.

The territory of Tuscia is thus presented as the ideal place to have the opportunity to spend a holiday full of charm and magic in the heart of central Italy.

Guest Access

You will have exclusive access to the whole stone house. The house is on two floors, very spacious and sunny. A field with olive trees and fruit trees surrounds the house.

Interaction with Guests

We are always very happy to help our guests, and we'll be always present when you'll need us. But we also like to leave our guests their privacy and peace, to enjoy at the best the stone house, a very special place out of the time....

  • October 2013. We really enjoyed our 5 day stay at the stone house. Licia was in Scotland but her mum, Marie, looked after us. She pointed out places to visit and even invited us around for dinner one night even though she spoke limited English. From afar, Licia gave us excellent directions by SMS to find the stone house and also later on, to locate a nearby ancient site called Corvanio.
The stone house was very clean and comfortable and was well located to nearby attractions. Grocery shopping was available in both Grotte Santo Stefano [2 kms] and Vitorchiano [5 kms]. No issues with parking but the reality is that you really do need a car to get around here. Unfortunately there was no WiFi or washing machine available at the time of our stay.
My wife became attached to the cute little farm cat which we fed each day. All in all it was a great stay and we hope to return one day.

  • This rustic house has a lot of potential. The newer parts of the house are beautiful, however, the house itself was unkept, inside and out - dust and insects abounded. The beautiful scenery was difficult to enjoy through very dirty windows. We did enjoy the area (visiting Civita, Vitorchiano), A car is necessary to get there (with a GPS) as we saw no trains, taxis or buses travelling close to the house. Coming stocked with groceries is advised and note that the kitchen has a hot plate, a microwave, and a fridge. There is also an oven which is fuelled by wood that you are required to (email hidden)bably not ideal for larger groups. Hot water ran out after day one.. Beds were great!

  • We had a great time in the stone house: much space, style and charm, tranquil and beautiful surroundings. The house is clean and well-kept with many unique details we loved. A good base to explore the little villages or bigger towns from there. Licia and her family were most helpful and very friendly. They even lent us a bike and gave us a lift to do our shopping. We got good tips from them about the area as well. A perfect getaway from the city, though mind: it's a bit unhandy without a car.

  • We had a wonderful time in Licia's stone house. The house is even bigger than the pictures can show. It has a HUGE fireplace downstairs (for all those pyromaniacs out there like us;-) and another one upstairs. Licia was a nice host to us: she gave good suggestions for daytrips and nice restaurants. Be sure to visit il monastero in Viterbo; you will have the biggest pizza served in europe there (on two plates). A word of advice though: rent a car before you come to the stone house. It is a remote (and special) place.

If we'll return to the beautiful surroundings of the Tuscia region we will stay with Licia again.

  • A peaceful and relaxing farm house! Licia was a great host, driving me to and from the train, and even lending me her bicycle. Very conveniently located for exploring charming towns, like Viterbo and Orvieto. I wish I could upload a photograph as part of my review, because views from the upstairs were truly gorgeous. I'm sure I'll fondly remember watching a shepherd guiding his sheep to pasture.

  • Licia's stone house is a great place to plan a getaway in the country. The large arch windows are beautiful. We met her brother and he gave us the keys. Licia was also available through email and gave excellent recommendations for exploring the surrounding area. We had a great time and recommend this house especially for larger groups. There is plenty of room :)

  • An isolated old farmhouse.
We sat outside and saw the Milky Way.
    Clean and extremely spacious.
No air conditioning and it was a hot night but tolerable.
My wife and daughter were quite put out with me that I had not arranged to stay longer. It's a place where one could stay a month and write a book.
Hard to find and the usual host was out of town. The substitute hosts did not have workable cellphone contact. Due to a miscommunication they waited for us by the side of the road for hours. Extraordinarily generous concern, and we feel is a isolated event, but make sure that the communication and plans are crystal clear beforehand.

  • A wonderful house, beautifully restored, and a truly terrific host! I met a lot of nice people in Italy, but Licia and her family must be the nicest of them all. If you like to go hiking or riding your bike or want to see some beautiful old italian villages - this is a perfect spot. And even more perfect if you're, like I was, looking for a quiet time out. You can have your total peace here, with only sheep as your neighbours. But when I needed anything, Licia or someone from her family was always ready to help. This just felt right in every aspect, from the first day to the last - and I stayed for over three weeks! I left about 36 hours ago and I want to go back again already.
