About this listing
It is a fourth floor flat within a building complex encompassing a bedroom, kitchen, toilet and shower. The kitchen is fully fitted which leads to the balcony that overlooks the sights and sounds of Greenmarket Square.
The apartment is situated in the centre of Cape Town and comprises of kitchen, with all the necessary appliances and utensils for self catering purposes. Then there is the bathroom/shower/toilet and bedroom. The bedroom is fitted with two three-quarter beds that can be moved together at the behest of the guests. There are built in cupboards for hanging clothing. It is secure and safe and housed within a complex on our famous Greenmarket Square. It is on the fourth floor and overlooks part of the city that can be viewed from the balcony which leads from the kitchen. It houses two guests comfortably with the facilities that are available.
Market House is a secure complex and has security twenty-four hours, seven days a week. There is also a lift that carries guest from ground to the fourth floor. It has also been declared a heritage site, in two thousand five and refurbishments had to be executed in order to strengthen the building but all original fixtures and fittings still remain that gives it a distinct character.
Built in the nineteen hundreds it has a history that many of the surrounding buildings, except the Gallery opposite, do not have. Unfortunately, however, parking facilities, in those days, were not catered for or thought of and this is a draw back for guests arriving in rental vehicles. There is, however, a public parking facility that is two minutes away where rental vehicles can be parked overnight or during the day at approximately three and one Euro respectively.
Interaction with Guests
I am always on hand to welcome guests to the apartment and to conduct a little "tour" of it and to explain certain aspects of their stay and to, before hand, make everything as comfortable and convenient as possible, before handing over the keys.
I will be on hand to assist in anything that is required in the apartment, during the guests' stay. I do clear the linens weekly and towels every alternate day and anything sooner will an exception rather than the rule.
Within the heart of the city, where we are situated, it has a vibrant atmosphere and it is filled with tourists, virtually, throughout the year. December /January is the high season with a larger than usual influx of tourists. There are many, many places of interest that are within walking distance of one another (there are organized walking tours) and there are tour buses that will take tourists to other parts of the city that is not within walking distance. This is within five minutes walk of the apartment.
The Houses of Parliament is up Government Avenue which is a seven minute walk from the apartment and includes a walk up the St. Georges Mall.
At the top of Government Avenue, just across Orange Street is our famous Mount Nelson hotel, named after the famous Briton, Lord Nelson. In Lower Burg Street, there is an open air tour (red) bus that can be hopped on or off during a tour of the city. There are also tours out to the Southern Suburbs which is quite scenic, and Sea Point, and Hout Bay.
Airport transfers is available to those guests not renting vehicles which would cost Euro thirty (30) or thirty-five dollars ($35) to the apartment
Other Things to Note
The Cable Station is another added attraction along with Signal Hill right next door where the city can be viewed in all its splendour, especially at night. This is a route that the open air bus includes. The bus also transports tourists to the Waterfront, situated in the dock area where many shops and restuarants are available. Here the ferry can be boarded, after tickets had been bought, to be taken to our famous Robben Island where the late Nelson Mandela spent his twenty-seven year incarceration.
It is a smoke free complex and guests are to respect this; not even on the balcony will this be allowed. Visitations are in order and other owners within the complex are to be respected with noise levels kept to a minimum. No pets are allowed.
