Interaction with guests

I live in this home, but you have your own private space, entry, lanai, and carport. I am a local girl born and raised right on this property. I would love to answer any questions you have about our island, and recommend places to see and things to do. If you like, I would love to pray and fellowship with you, as God leads.

The neighborhood

Haiku is the neighborhood I grew up in. I love it! It is a small but growing community with still a lot of the old local families I know, and a lot of new neighbors moving in. We have a variety of restaurants from Japanese and Thai to American, Hawaiian,Vegetarian, Mexican, Chinese, Mediterranean, and local. There are 2 grocery stores, a post office, massage and spa, hardware store, laundromat, doctor, thrift shop, video store, etc. We are the home of Haleakala Bike Company, where you can ride a bike down from Haleakala Crater back to Haiku. Haiku is on the tropical side of the island, which means beautiful rainbows, flowers and plants, green grass, fruit trees, and cool tradewinds. It is 5 minutes away from beautiful beaches and surf spots, yet away from the tourist traps on Maui! Don't forget to hang with the 50+ turtles that swim to shore at sunset, 5 min. away! Twin Falls with its beautiful waterfalls and pools is less than 15 min. away, if you like to hike. The famous Jaws where surfers ride 30' waves is just 10 min. away! If you love to shop, Paia & Makawao towns are filled with interesting shops, art galleries, and restaurants, and just minutes away from Haiku. Come stay in Haiku, and be among the locals to experience the real Hawaii!!

Getting around

There is a local bus transit a few minutes away from our home that will take you to every town on the island. However, we recommend you rent a car to save time, and to get to those places the bus does not go.

Other things to note

Airbnb does not collect our Hawaii State Tax of 13.42%, so I will need to make a change in your payment online to include the tax. If you need anything, please call my home numb(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). Please be aware of time difference, if you are calling long distance.
I do have 3 dogs that sometimes escape from their fenced-in area. Please let me know if you prefer to not have contact with them, so I can be sure they are securely fenced. If you don't like dogs, it might be better to find another place to stay. Also, you can expect occasional barking from my dogs and neighbors' dogs.

I am a local Maui lady, born and raised here in upcountry Haiku. I love living here, and love all my neighbors and friends in this community. I truly believe Maui No Ka Oi, which means Maui is the best! It is the most beautiful island, offering the most diversity of terrain and weather. My favorite thing to do is watching my plants and trees flower and bear fruit. I love discovering new fruits, flowers, and plants, and learning how to grow them. I am a mother of 6 children who have all flown out of the nest, and are grown, getting married, and having children. I have 2 beautiful granddaughters, Kealia who's 5 and Wailea who's 2, who live on the Big Island. I love flying over to visit them! Most of all, I love Jesus, and He loves me! "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me!"
