Howdy! Thanks for checking us out and we would like to invite you to stay in our home. My husband and I are a couple of "Empty-Nesters" who miss the hustle and bustle of kids and extended family visiting and staying with us. We have a large home (over 5000 sf) with 6 bedrooms and 5 baths and truly enjoy meeting new people and being a tiny part of their journey in life.
We live in an upscale neighborhood on a beautiful tree-lined street in South Des Moines, that is central to Everything! 5 minutes to Des Moines International Airport and 10 minutes to downtown - never farther than 20 minutes from anywhere in Des Moines!. Our 4-car garage always has plenty of room to keep your bicycles safe or any storage needs that might come up!
REGARDING CHILDREN - Our home is not child-proofed and not suitable for small children. One of our cats is a rescue animal who is terrified of children. Please contact us on a case-by-case basis regarding children.
-Chemical Sensitivities? We do occasionally use scented candles, bleach and scented laundry soap. Please let us know if you would prefer we not light candles or unplug an electric warmer we might have on for the duration of your visit. If your allergies are severe we might not be a good fit for you.
We are a 100% non-smoking environment (even the grounds). Smokers tend to enjoy other accommodations.
KING HARMONY ROOM- This room has 1 King Bed. A comfortable room with a large closet, 26" Cable TV/DVD, and desk/chair with wi-fi access. Decorated with a relaxing Asian Spa motif. This guest-room has a full bathroom just steps outside the room that is occasionally shared when we have guests in the Woodland Rose Room. If you need 2 twin beds, please check with us PRIOR to booking so we can make the necessary arrangements in advance.

There really isn't good public transport available in our neighborhood. The closest bus stop is 2 miles away....all down hill to get there, but all UP-hill to get back! Once in the City there is a public bus system (DART) and taxi cabs & UBER.

Temperature: Since we are a private home we do not have individual thermostat controls in each guest room. We strive to keep our home temperature between 68-72 degrees year around. If you desire it significantly colder or hotter you will probably want to consider an alternative lodging choice. It is our goal to please most of the people…most of the time. Each room has an adjustable ceiling fan and during the winter additional blankets are always available.
The BEST phone number to call is our home numb(phone number hidden), the second best phone number is Susan's Cell (phone number hidden) and for emergency or last effort contact please call Todd's cells (phone number hidden) or (phone number hidden).
Normal Check-in time is after 4pm and "normal" check-out time is 10 a.m., we can usually accommodate different times with advance communication.
Todd and I adore having airbnb guests and we treat them like honored friends and family, however, our biggest challenge in the past year has been guests who do not communicate accurate arrival/departure times or communicate clearly about when they will be available for breakfast. We plan our days and evening around the arrival and departure of guests so when people are 2-3 hours off schedule and don't notify us it usually means a large disruption of our free time.
Susan provided a wonderful experience during my mom's visit. We really appreciated her attention to detail and would book again without hesitation.
Susan is a gracious host and offers very comfortable accommodations. The breakfast was delicious! I definitely recommend staying in Susan's home.
We had a lovely stay with Susan. I was down with a bad cold, and Susan made me a nice cup of tea and tended to our every need.
The king size bed was a dream and I didn't want to leave it.
Each morning we got hearty breakfasts before we made our way out the door for work. We got to meet the other guests, who honestly we're not sure where they were staying because the house is so big.
Susan is delightful, I unfortunately didn't get to speak with her husband. And her two kitties are absolutely the best (well outside of my cat).
Our stay with Susan was more like an BnB although with the great family touch. I would without a doubt come back!
Very welcoming and comfortable. Gracious hosts, great breakfasts, good location in Des Moines. We'll be back again soon!
This was truly a B&B, incredibly well priced for all of the amenities. They have a gym that we were able to use very early in the morning. Susan had fantastic suggestions for places to go, and both her and her husband even had suggestions for towns to see in Iowa on our way to Chicago. Breakfast was delicious and a great start to our day back on the road.
Des Moines was a pleasant stop on our trip and I would definitely stay here again if I return.
As we were traveling through Des Moines, this was a natural place to overnight. Susan has made their home into a destination quality stop. So much exceeding my expectations! Both rooms we stayed in were unique and so very comfortable.
We had a great stay and Susan and Todd were wonderful hosts, even with a full house of 9 guests! It never felt crowded or too loud. The house was enormous and comfortable and nicely decorated. We loved getting to know everyone over the leisurely breakfasts, which were AMAZING, huge, delicious meals that kept us full until dinner! We'll definitely stay here again if we return to the area.
