We have a lovely 3 bedroom 2 bathroom home that feels like you in a tree house. The home is one story up! All the rooms have wood or tile floors, a really big dinning room and kitchen to create your meals. The master bedroom has a king size bed, the 2nd bedroom has a double bed and the 3rd bedroom has a futon or can be used as a playroom. The showers and bathtub are on a large bathing deck. Washer and Dryer are in the house as well. It's just a short walk to take yoga classes and the local yoga center. It's just 2 miles to Pohoiki bay and warm springs. Kapoho tide pools and Kehena beach are grea places to visit the water! Pahoa town is 5 miles away and Hilo is 45 min. away.
There are great places to eat in Pahoa and famer's markets as well. You need a rental car and there is no public transit to the home.
We request that everyone take off their shoe sin the house. Also, no smoking or burning candles in the house.
On checking in we found the accommodations at Yoga Oasis as described in the listing. It is a beautiful house set on an active farm/yoga center in the jungle, it is very spacious and comfortable; we found it well suited to our needs. Its location is central to all of the local attractions (warm ponds, champagne ponds, Kehena black sand beach, lava flows, etc.) but you definitely need a vehicle to enjoy them all. Pahoa is close and, even though is relatively small, has some good restaurants and Hilo is not that much further away.
The kitchen is well equipped and we enjoyed making breakfast and watching the wild baby pigs which visited the yard almost every morning. You will also enjoy the semi-outdoor covered shower deck.
The house is off the grid and operates totally on solar power so just be aware that this requires some limiting of high energy appliances.
Star (off-site owner), Hayward and Julia (caretakers) were especially helpful and responded to our needs and questions in a very timely manner as small things came up.
The only glitch is that the internet connection was less than stellar; it kept dropping and needed to be reset before it would work again. Fortunately AT&T has good coverage there so I was able to use my IPhone as a hot spot to facilitate the internet connection.
Overall I give it a 4.5 out of 5 stars, even though the rating system here is only in whole stars.
I am a bodyworker and computer consultant. My wife and I rent out our Hawaiian home when we are on another island or in California. We have a 2 year old son that keeps us busy when we are not working. We love being outdoors and close to nature and built our home to reflect how we like to live.
