Trastevere is one of the most fascinating places in Rome, a network of narrow lanes with an antique flavor punctuated by the opening of lovely squares.
Whether you're a tourist, whether you are Roman, Trastevere is the place if you love art and culture, if you like to see people or simply if you want to breathe the air of real Roman life.

Today Trastevere still maintains its character through the winding streets covered with cobblestones overlooked by medieval houses. The night is full of people, both Italian and foreign, thanks to the wealth of restaurants and pubs for every price range.
It is one of the liveliest quarters, characteristic and self-sufficient city. It offers typical Roman restaurants and pizzerias as well as cinemas, markets (San Cosimato was just recently renovated), banks, pharmacies, supermarkets, shops of every kind and elegant shops.
Another trait that characterizes the area a monument to Gioachino Belli, emblem Trastevere.

  • The Good:
We met Marianna on arrival and she was lovely, gave us loads of tips and general walking estimations to the general attractions.
The area was great, and a great central point to reach pretty much everywhere we wanted to go in Rome.

    The Bad:
Marianna assured us when we got there that Friday and Saturday were load nights but there wouldn't be people on the street. She was wrong. There were people slamming into our door until about 3am.
The apartment is nicely furnished, except for not having anything that a normal AirBNB place has. They have empty containers around the kitchen that I think it'd be really easy to leave salt / pepper in. In the bathroom there is a holder for liquid hand soap, but nothing in it. I don't think guests staying for three days should have to supply their own hand soap.

  • We stayed 6 nights in Giorgio's apartment and overall it was great. The location is excellent for soaking up and enjoying life in Trastevere, and also great for exploring Rome on foot. It is central and close to everything without being in the Centro Storico area. There are lots of great places to eat and drink nearby. The apartment was clean and well furnished. It is exactly as it looks on the airbnb website. Very cosy for two. We didn't get to meet Giorgio, but he was excellent at communicating throughout the whole booking and during our stay (he gave us lots of good tips and helped point us in the right direction, and responded prompty when we needed to ask for advice) and he arranged an airport transfer for us which was great. At check in we were met by a friend of Giorgio's called Marianna and she was amazing. She shared her passion for and knowledge of Rome with us and took us through some of her favourite places and sites on a map, and this pretty much became our list of things to see and do. We loved it. Thanks Marianna. Thanks Giorgio. The only downside was the noise which came from the narrow street on the final few nights we were there. There is a bar a few doors up and they had a few parties coinciding with Halloween. There was a lot of people drinking and smoking and being very loud until about 3am on 2 of the nights during our stay. We were tired from all our sightseeing so were able to sleep through it. It might not always be that bad...maybe just for major festivals and celebrations?

  • Great location, very nice restaurants nearby but head just across the tram line for better ones. Really nice welcome from Lucia who was friendly and gave us some fantastic travel tips (thank you). There is a bar next door which plays loud music at night and (esp. Fri/Sat) there were lots of noisy people outside the door until 3am (ear plugs essential). This is a rental apartment not a home and it's in reasonably good condition however it's in need of some maintenance (painting, new shower curtain). A few personal touches, such as soap in the bathroom, some tea bags, would be welcome. Bed comfortable and linen nice.

  • We stayed two nights in Giorgio's flat. It's in a great location and you can easily walk to all the main sights. The flat is clean and charming - and Giorgio's assistant was very helpful during check-in and brought a map of the town for us outlining the best sights, shopping areas, restaurants etc.

I read a few comments from previous guests about the noise at night outside the flat - we were there on a Thursday and Friday night, and although there were people in the streets around the flat enjoying some drinks, we had no problems sleeping. The flat is situated in an area full of restaurants and bars, so if that's not your thing, then maybe stay in a less popular area. Otherwise, if you can't beat them, join them!

  • Let me start by saying Giorgio and his assistant are lovely and kind people. I write this review, hoping to alert any future tenants of the potential issues we had staying here. It may be possible we stayed on an especially rowdy weekend, but the noise outside this apartment was so bad the first night we stayed there, we had to find another place to stay for the next night. There were crowds of wall-to-wall people starting around 11 pm, smoking, drinking and drunk, sitting in the doorway of the apartment (it is ground level), slamming against the apartment door...ALL NIGHT LONG. We had our earplugs in, the air conditioning was on, it did not even remotely cover the noise. At one point we thought someone was trying to get in to the apartment. Calling the host at 3 am didn't seem like an option, what could he do, disperse the mob himself? We don't know the laws in Italy (we are from abroad) and didn't call the police. We did not get to sleep til 6 am.
Sadly, although we got many apologies from Giorgio and Airbnb, we did not get a refund, even for the second night we didn't even stay.
    So here's an honest breakdown:

    THE GOOD
    - Nice host
    - cute apartment
    - the bed was more comfy than other places we stayed
    - cute area

    THE BAD
    - very loud, drunk, rowdy at night (at least this particular weekend)
    - the bathroom is not so great
    - no sleep
    - the cigarette smoke from the street filled the apartment
    - no refund, we had to pay for both nights, even though we felt threatened

This may have been an isolated incident, but it was, hands down, the worst hotel/vacation rental experience we have ever had.
Giorgio was very apologetic and felt terrible, but that was about all the restitution we got. I would recommend this rental if you plan on being out all night and can handle sleeping in a nightclub

  • I did not meet Giogio in person, but he was always helpful and accessible through email or cellphone. He booked us a taxi service to and from the airport, that was super convenient.

I had the privilege of meeting his assistant Marianna, who was super friendly and very informative on where to go and what to see in the area.

Trastevere is a great area in Rome, and everyone knows that. Therefore, Friday and Saturday nights, especially, the streets get insanely crowded with tourists and young locals. The location of the room is on the ground floor, with the front door leading to the street and a bar next door. This means that during weekend nights it gets very noisy for anyone sleeping in the livingroom area. As a family of four, we fit in the apartment just fine, but ideally, the room is much better for a couple where they can sleep in the bedroom area, furthest away from the street noise. But on another note, if the street is noisy on weekends, that means the location is ideal for anyone wanting to party hard. =P

  • Perfect little place for 2 people. We liked the bed and TV and the kitchen area for some small meals. It was clean and stayed relatively cool during the hot Roman days because you can cover all the windows and it gets almost completely dark.

I will say we were surprised by the neighborhood, while I'd argue that Trastavere is the coolest neighborhood in Rome it is definitely built for younger people, meaning at least be OK with street noise at night. Each night college kids would be right outside our door, smoking, drinking and talking until late at night. So you either roll with that or you don't. We enjoyed the life personally. At first it seems uncomfortable but they mean no harm, it's safe.

And it's very nice staying outside of the tourist center of Rome, everything is within a 30 minute walking distance. A train at the Trastavere train station (a quick cab or bus ride from this apartment, a little far to walk with bags) also takes you directly to Fiumicino airport.

We'd stay again! Love this neighborhood for the food, atmosphere and nightlife!

  • Re Art Trastevere is in the perfect location, surrounded by Restaurants, bars and unique little shops.

Giorgio was a great help advising us where to go and what to do, he also helped us arrange transport to the airport.

The apartment itself is great too, it has everything you need and is very comfortable.

  • Giorgio was very accommodating and helpful. He arranged our transport and gave us a briefing of the area and where and what to do when we got there. The apartment has everything you need and is in a great area although it is a bit loud on the streets in the evening if you are a light sleeper.

  • + :
*Perfect location, so close to ponte sisto, in the best area full of super cool restaurants, bars etc, but at the same time in a small street so that it's still quiet
*Super host with a great assistant who gave us so many cool info about the city and things to do around
*So Fresh/Cold that you dont feel the heat of Roma in the summer!
    *Very good atmosphere
    *Good value for money

    -:
There's a kitchen but nothing in it (no coffee, no tea, salt/pepper/oil) so you cannot really use it
The Bathroom is a bit small, but not a problem as you dont spend too much time on it
Perfect for two, maybe a bit small for 4 if you are looking for real privacy

About
I love active life and I try to maximize the time I spend outdoors, which is not too difficult in the Italian climate! In free time, I love traveling and discovering new places. When in Rome I like spending time with my girlfriend and friends exploring beautiful parks of Rome by bicycle, climbing, or just having a glass of wine in good company. I take every opportunity I have to visit exhibitions of contemporary art, or listen to good live music. I studied arts and tourism and worked for a large airline for quite some time. But I only found myself as an entrepreneur – I love my job! It gives me the chance to meet people and hear their stories. It also reminds me of how amazing a life of a traveler can be. The best quote I've encountered: "I love people who can make me laugh, when I don't even want to smile"
