The Space

This is a fantastic place, large (about 45 square meters), full of light, very cheerful and warm, and fully-equipped (wi-fi, TV, stereo, washer/dryer free international telephone, piano, etc.). Spacious living room, bedroom with double bed, not-too-small kitchen, large entry-way, bathroom with great water pressure. Can sleep two in the bedroom and two on the pull-out futon in the living room (and there's still room on the floor). Everybody loves this place; the pictures don't quite do it justice. It is located in the 13th arrondissement, but the part that borders on the 5th, and is quite central ((website hidden) Maps doesn't show quite the right location, by the way). Only a five-minute walk to the Jardin des Plantes, about the same for Mouffetard and the Latin Quarter. Very near to two outdoor markets and several supermarkets (Monoprix, Carrefour, G 20, etc.). Well-served by three metro lines and more buses (and plenty of Vélib' bikes!!).

Just a note: I still have mostly the same furniture, but in a different arrangement, thanks to my girlfriend's good ideas. And a new, larger refrigerator and a newly-painted bathroom make so that things are even better than in the pictures! I should take new ones, I guess......

  • Thanks David for sharing your home with us. And for the air bed. Paris has been enjoyable.

  • We felt quite at home in David's apartment right from the start. We found it clean and uncluttered, comfortable and quiet. If you are expecting matching sheet sets, fluffy white towels and a chocolate on your pillow, perhaps this is not the apartment for you, but if you enjoy browsing through an impressive book collection, in English and French, nice art on the walls and, of course, being able to play a beautiful Grand Piano, David's apartment will be a wonderful haven. We spent 5 days there and handily cooked most of our meals in his kitchen. The metro station is a five minute walk away and there is a good patisserie around the corner.

  • A paint job and a solid cleaning would make all the difference in this Apartment. Once I dusted the bedroom and living room, bought fresh sponges, washed the fridge, walls and counters of the kitchen and washed the duvet I felt okay to hang out, but I was not pleased - if I were staying longer I would have scrubbed the toaster and oven which look like they've never been cleaned. The bathroom ceiling is covered with moldy, hanging paint and the shower curtain needs to be cleaned. Also, traffic sounds are aplenty in the early morning, so bring earplugs (I slept fine with them in). I wouldn't mind the piles of clutter here and there, but to be charged to stay in someone else's dirt is not for me. That being said, David mentioned that I'm the only one who has complained, so maybe it'd be fine for you.

Positives are it's close to the metro, there is a piano and an intriguing book collection and there's enough room for two friends who don't want to sleep in the same bed.

I'm waiting to hear if he will reimburse me a little for the cleaning.

  • David's apartment is spacious and close to several metro stations making it easy to explore the city from his place. There are also many great places that can be explored on foot for people who prefer to walk. Picking up the keys from David's friend just a few blocks away went smoothly. There are some quirks of the apartment/building (such as dampness) to be expected in a city with old housing stock but the apartment has lovely windows and served us well.

  • David was a great host. The apartment was spacious and clean, on a quiet street in a nice part of Paris. There's a metro stop across the street, as well as a good bakery and a supermarket nearby. David kindly let me play his beautiful Steinway grand piano. I'll try to stay here again next time I'm in Paris, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

  • David was extremely helpful and totally professional. He showed me around the apartment and even helped me find the best way to get to the airport while avoiding a strike! JV

Hi! I'm a musician, American but living in Paris for several years. I'm often out of town, and so there is ample opportunity to sublet my apartment. It's a very nice place, lots of light, and well-located. Maybe you'll see it yourself someday!
