Looking for luxurious accommodations in Bali at a fraction of the price of expensive boutique hotels? Want to find peace and quiet and get a sense of Balinese village life while also being very close to Bali's cultural center of Ubud? Well, this is the villa for you.
I call this villa the Joglo Villa because the large master suite was created from a re-purposed Javanese style house called a joglo. The large, king-size, four-poster bed is situated in the center of the joglo, allowing for a beautiful look at the traditional wood carvings on the ceiling as you lay down to relax. When I built this villa, I wanted to draw upon the woodcarving and painting expertise of my fellow village members, so I decorated it with original Balinese art, hand-made furniture, and detailed architecture (in many cases I utilized reclaimed, recycled wood). The villa also features green gardens and lawn, an infinity pool with a bridge, and a sitting gazebo which sits on a small bluff overlooking the jungle, rice fields, and ravine below. A great place to relax, rejuvenate, or be inspired.
The kitchen, dining and living room are combined into a single spacious area and are surrounded by sliding and folding glass doors that allow for open living or an enclosed air conditioned space. The kitchen is fully equipped with stove, oven, refrigerator, blender, coffee maker, toaster, etc… and overlooks rice fields at the back of the house. There is bar seating for four and the dining table seats six. The living room offers a couch, lounge, writing nook and a flat screen cable television. There are also a number of places for lounging outside – on the deck, under the sitting gazebo, or on the loungers next to the natural stone infinity pool.
The large master bedroom offers a super king size bed, a sitting nook (which can also serve as a bed for a small child) a tv with cable television, a desk and writing nook, plentiful closet space and a luxury en suite bathroom that is partially open air and has its own small garden. A second bedroom has two twin beds that can be combined into a king bed, desk area and couch seating (a small child can sleep on the couch in this room as well). The second bathroom is located next to the second bedroom at the end of the house. Both bedrooms offer fan and air conditioner.
The villa is located amongst rice paddies on a village road in a quiet setting, yet is only a few minutes drive from the cultural center of Ubud. You can also take your time and walk into town to really get a sense of the area and the daily life of the Balinese. The villa's position to the south of Ubud makes it easy to take day trips to the beaches in Sanur, Seminyak, or Kuta without any of the traffic of town. Each day the local priest’s wife places offerings in and around the property to bring a good spirit and great smells to the area. The local banjar (community meeting place) is just a short walk down the road, and one can sometimes hear the faint sounds of the village gamelan practicing as the sun sets. It is magical! Many of my family and friends are mask-makers, wood carvers, musicians and dancers, and I am happy to introduce those wishing to learn some of the Balinese arts.
The property shares a parking area and fully trained team staff with three other villas on site. The price includes daily maid service, linens and towels, wireless internet, cable television, and daily breakfast.
Airport transfer, driver to other attractions, massage, private yoga classes, traditional Balinese meals (made by the most renowned cook in the village, my mom!), laundry, rental cellphone, rental motorbike, and babysitting can be arranged for an additional fee.
Babycots/cribs and car seats also available for no charge.
Being Balinese myself, I am always open to speak with guests about Bali's rich culture and religion, and can offer tips about unique things to see and do. The Ubud area offers a number of great performances, the monkey forest, and exquisite temples, and I am happy to inform guests of authentic ceremonies and celebrations happening during their stay.
Please send us any inquiries you may have. We are happy to cater to all guests' needs in order to make your stay in Bali truly remarkable.
Low season price is $200 per night with a minumum stay of 2 nights.
High Season (December 1-January 15; July 1 and August 31) is $250 per night with a minimum stay of 3 nights.
If you know you will stay for a week or more, I am open to negotiating the price :)
The property also has a detached beautiful bungalow, so if you like the villa but need an extra room, the bungalow can be rented for an additional price. Please inquire with us and we will let you know if it is free and what the final price for your stay will be.

Guests staying in the villa are expected to treat the villa as if it were their own. Guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by adults. About the Host, Ida Bagus Oka
Hi! My name is Oka and I am a villa designer and artist from Bali, Indonesia. For many years I travelled around America and the Carribean working on cruise ships, but now I have settled back home in Bali with my wife Dayu and my son Gustu. As a young boy I was a woodcarver and pottery designer and have since combined my interests in art and hospitality to design unique villas around Bali. My family is also of the Brahman, priestly caste in Bali, and I grew up learning about all of the unique and intricate aspects of Balinese culture, religion, and art from my father. In addition to being passionate about creating unique villas and art, I am also passionate about sharing information about my home-- the island of the gods-- Bali. I was once hired to do a Canadian National Geographic-like program called Departure indonesia season 3- Ring of fire and Departure indonesia season 3- A home away. You can look me up in these films!
I can't wait to share with you! -Oka
