Looking for luxurious accommodations in Bali at a fraction of the price of expensive boutique hotels? Want to find peace and quiet and get a sense of Balinese village life while also being very close to Bali's cultural center of Ubud? Well, this is the villa for you.

I call this villa the Joglo Villa because the large master suite was created from a re-purposed Javanese style house called a joglo. The large, king-size, four-poster bed is situated in the center of the joglo, allowing for a beautiful look at the traditional wood carvings on the ceiling as you lay down to relax. When I built this villa, I wanted to draw upon the woodcarving and painting expertise of my fellow village members, so I decorated it with original Balinese art, hand-made furniture, and detailed architecture (in many cases I utilized reclaimed, recycled wood). The villa also features green gardens and lawn, an infinity pool with a bridge, and a sitting gazebo which sits on a small bluff overlooking the jungle, rice fields, and ravine below. A great place to relax, rejuvenate, or be inspired.

The kitchen, dining and living room are combined into a single spacious area and are surrounded by sliding and folding glass doors that allow for open living or an enclosed air conditioned space. The kitchen is fully equipped with stove, oven, refrigerator, blender, coffee maker, toaster, etc… and overlooks rice fields at the back of the house. There is bar seating for four and the dining table seats six. The living room offers a couch, lounge, writing nook and a flat screen cable television. There are also a number of places for lounging outside – on the deck, under the sitting gazebo, or on the loungers next to the natural stone infinity pool.

The large master bedroom offers a super king size bed, a sitting nook (which can also serve as a bed for a small child) a tv with cable television, a desk and writing nook, plentiful closet space and a luxury en suite bathroom that is partially open air and has its own small garden. A second bedroom has two twin beds that can be combined into a king bed, desk area and couch seating (a small child can sleep on the couch in this room as well). The second bathroom is located next to the second bedroom at the end of the house. Both bedrooms offer fan and air conditioner.

The villa is located amongst rice paddies on a village road in a quiet setting, yet is only a few minutes drive from the cultural center of Ubud. You can also take your time and walk into town to really get a sense of the area and the daily life of the Balinese. The villa's position to the south of Ubud makes it easy to take day trips to the beaches in Sanur, Seminyak, or Kuta without any of the traffic of town. Each day the local priest’s wife places offerings in and around the property to bring a good spirit and great smells to the area. The local banjar (community meeting place) is just a short walk down the road, and one can sometimes hear the faint sounds of the village gamelan practicing as the sun sets. It is magical! Many of my family and friends are mask-makers, wood carvers, musicians and dancers, and I am happy to introduce those wishing to learn some of the Balinese arts.

The property shares a parking area and fully trained team staff with three other villas on site. The price includes daily maid service, linens and towels, wireless internet, cable television, daily breakfast, and a one-time (drop and pickup) shuttle to and from Ubud center.

Airport transfer, driver to other attractions, massage, private yoga classes, traditional Balinese meals (made by the most renowned cook in the village, my mom!), laundry, rental cellphone, rental motorbike, and babysitting can be arranged for an additional fee.
Babycots/cribs and car seats also available for no charge.
Being Balinese myself, I am always open to speak with guests about Bali's rich culture and religion, and can offer tips about unique things to see and do. The Ubud area offers a number of great performances, the monkey forest, and exquisite temples, and I am happy to inform guests of authentic ceremonies and celebrations happening during their stay.

Please send us any inquiries you may have. We are happy to cater to all guests' needs in order to make your stay in Bali truly remarkable.

Low season price is $165 per night with a minumum stay of 2 nights.

High Season (December 15-January 15; July and August) is $200 per night with a minimum stay of 3 nights.

If you know you will stay for a week or more, I am open to negotiating the price :)

The property also has a detached beautiful bungalow, so if you like the villa but need an extra room, the bungalow can be rented for an additional $100 per night. Please inquire with us and we will let you know if it is free and what the final price for your stay will be.

  • We absolutely loved our stay here and would recommend it without hesitation!! The villa was beautiful, and Oka and his staff went out of their way to make sure we felt welcome and comfortable. We were traveling with our toddler son and the staff was great with him, too. We had a couple of dinners prepared for us at the villa, and they were some of the best we had in Bali. Thank you, we really hope to come back sometime!!

  • We really appreciated the owner Oka and the large number of staff in this villa. We enjoyed the stay in this very nice wooden house. We love wooden houses. The description is accurate and photos are absolutely like the reality. Location in close to Ubud by car. Thank you Oka for all.

  • Excellent and peaceful place very near (10 mins by car) to Ubud. Oka has done a great job with the excellent design of the units. His staff is as friendly as they get and his car driver , Made (you can rent the car and driver from him) is the most considerate, soft spoken person we have come across. Master bedroom is well designed with outstanding views. It is furnished with one of the best beds I have slept on. If you are looking for a quality villa, look no further !!

If there is one improvement we could ask would be that the aircon in the masterbed room be made a bit stronger. Other than that, we loved the place in every way

  • Ida's driver Made picked us up from the airport and we are greeted by Ida and his staff on arrival at the Villa.

His staff were excellent, they assisted us in settling in and were always there each morning and evening to help with anything. Ida on the first evening arranged for various trips and we used Made each day to drive us around.

Ida even invited us to his BBQ with his guests, which was really nice to meet his friends and family.

The accommodation we loved, the quality of the villa was excellent. Ida explained how he had made the Villa from an old ship he had dug up from Java. The setting was great with views over the rice fields and set in a quite location.

Finally his staff and Ida sent their farewells and we promised ourselves that we would definitely come back again.

  • We arrived at Denpasar airport after 10 pm and were greeted with a warm and friendly smile from our driver. The villa was immaculately presented and a hoard of helpers were there to greet us, assist with our luggage and light the path for us in the dark. It was very luxurious, cool and hospitable. We felt safe and welcomed.

Although we were surrounded by other villas, the rice paddies, garden and jungle around us made the location feel truly beautiful, private and intimate. The pool was fresh and clean and the extra services such as massages, pedicures and manicure on site was brilliant after a long days site seeing and it was affordable too!

Breakfast and driver to and from Ubud town was included in our fee and made the distance of our accommodation worthwhile.

    Thank you Oka and staff.
I look forward to visiting again sometime in the future with my family.

    Regards,
    Daniella

  • Go here if only to meet Oka and have a chat. The place is awesome too, have a fruity breakfast served outside, jump in the infinity pool and then go explore Ubud on scooters. Great stay, best host.

  • We found Oka's listing while looking through various accommodation options for our 3 night stay in Ubud. We had 4 adults and we're looking for a 2 bedroom villa within our budget (as Ubud area is generally more expensive compared to other areas of Bali).

At first we had some doubts as we would have been the 1st guest group to stay here and the villa didn't have any previous reviews. However when we got in contact with Oka, he made us feel completely welcome - he was very very friendly and efficient in communicating with us. Provided us with all the information we were asking. When we arrived at the villa, Oka greeted us in person and he couldn't have been more lovely and helpful!!!

Now, about the villa - our villa is part of a small complex of 3-4 villas under Oka's management. Location is good. About 15 mins drive from Ubuds city center. Yet tuck away in the middle of a rice paddy field. We have a nice view from the pool as the villa is open to nice greenery. The bedrooms are very comfortable and the whole villa is decorated with nice clean and simple furniture made of recycled materials (!!!) really lovely place.

Everything was there - internet, cable tv, kitchen equipment etc. I have to mention breakfast!! So many choices - local food, fruits, juices, pancakes. We were always full! Thanks to the super friendly staff.

The only issue we had was the hot water which was cut off one night which was rather inconvenient. We told the staff and they came straight away to fix the problem after 15mins (heater ran out of gas).

All in all, we really had a wonderful stay at Oka's villa and would recommend this place to everyone.

About
Hi! My name is Oka and I am a villa designer and artist from Bali, Indonesia. For many years I travelled around America and the Carribean working on cruise ships, but now I have settled back home in Bali with my wife Dayu and my son Gustu. As a young boy I was a woodcarver and pottery designer and have since combined my interests in art and hospitality to design unique villas around Bali. My family is also of the Brahmin, priestly caste in Bali, and I grew up learning about all of the unique and intricate aspects of Balinese culture, religion, and art from my father. In addition to being passionate about creating unique villas and art, I am also passionate about sharing information about my home-- the island of the gods-- Bali. I was once hired to do a Canadian National Geographic-like program called Departure indonesia season 3- Ring of fire and Departure indonesia season 3- A home away. You can look me up in these films! I can't wait to share with you! -Oka
