The Space

Recently renovated apartment in the coach house of a Georgian House and Mill complex, built in 1803, originally part of the lands of the Earls of Portarlington, this is truly part of hidden Ireland

Complete privacy with only the sound of the mill pond make this a great location to explore this corner right in the centre of the south of Ireland

Lots of local walks, cycle & riding treks abound, we are close to the Slieve Bloom mountains, with onsite stables (& riding lessons by arrangement), lawn croquet and canoeing on our local river in summer, we are minutes from Durrow and Abbeyliex with great food and pubs and only 3 km from the motorway linking us to Dublin, Cork and Limerick in c 90 mins. 30 km from glorious medieval Kilkenny which offers a myriad of things to do from ancient abbeys to up to the minute night life, and an almost never ending list of festivals

Spacious en suite bedroom, large loft style living room with fully stocked kitchen facilities, or avail of country breakfast in the main house - evening catering available by prior arrangement

We can also help you arrange hunting with our local packs and provide stables and grooming service

Guest Access

Your own living accommodation, en suite bedroom with king size bed, living room furnished with comfy sofas and stocked with books and games, a capacious library of dvd's - you are welcome to all the facilities we have on site, including croquet in summer, fishing in the mill pond and on our river - season permitting, bicycles etc.

Interaction with Guests

We live onsite and welcome guests as friends and are delighted to show them the local beauties and amenities, or leave them as much privacy and solitude as they would like.

The Neighborhood

This is a quiet rural backwater, in the heart of Hidden Ireland, we are five minutes from Durrow and Abbeyliex both of which offer a selection of eateries and pubs, local shops, and good services yet convenient (c. 30 mins) to historic Kilkenny, Portlaoise, Thurles and equidistant from Dublin, Cork and Limerick. Locally there is so much to do, we have lots of walks, cycle tracks, pony trekking, and canoeing in season

Getting Around

A car is needed to travel around, but we have good links from Portlaoise and Kilkenny - 3 mins from M8 - halfway between Dublin, Cork and Limerick we really are in the middle of everywhere

Other Things to Note

We are very close to local Castle Durrow country house & wedding venue as well as Abbeleix Manor Hotel. and can arrange taxis to and from for guests attending events at either. A babysitting service is also available; and on site massage (subject to pre booking )

I moved here with my husband Anthony in 2008 after we had spent quite a lot of time travelling for his career in sailing Stars, and now live here with our children, dogs and horses working from home and have been restoring the mill and outbuildings , - I live in the main house and offer any guest as much privacy as they would like - but also like to welcome guests as family.

We both have a great interest in cooking & food, have a thriving vegetable garden and aim to provide most of our vegetables from it; we love sports in general, rugby sailing polo and hunting in particular, and would be described as people people !!
