The Space

Your room and adjoining full bath with tub has a comfy double bed, dresser, nightstand, closet, hot water kettle, tea, coffee, personal heater and A/C. It is located on the back of the house just off the dining room. The other bedrooms are upstairs, so yours is quiet and cozy overlooking the backyard. Our home has old growth fir floors and was built in 1911, so it is a true historic Portland home.

Guest Access

You will have access to the bedroom and its amenities.

Interaction with Guests

If we are in town, we are available for whatever you need. We are easy going and can help you navigate Portland.

The Neighborhood

Our home is located on a block full of beautifully restored 100 year old homes in the safe and trendy Hawthorne neighborhood of southeast Portland, one of the most desirable areas in town (and one of the areas featured on Portlandia often).
You could easily spend weeks just exploring this area full of pubs, boutiques, vintage shops, restaurants-foodie paradise, food carts, parks, etc., and never have to get in a car or walk more than a mile (Division, Hawthorne, Belmont and East Burnside streets are all within walking distance). We are a short walk to the 100 year old Laurelhurst park full of old growth fir trees and Mt Tabor park situated on top of an extinct volcano overlooking the city.
Want to go out and boogie? Some top name musicians live in the neighborhood and play in the many spots around us, often for free.
Or, maybe you are coming for work and need to get downtown or to the conference center? Both are about 2 miles away and can be gotten to by transit, zipcar, car2go, walking, or if you want to bike, you can rent one close by! We are 2 blocks from the closest bus stop (SE 32nd and SE Belmont).

Getting around

Close to public transit, zipcar, car2go, walking and biking are easy.

  • This was my first airbnb experience and Lyric made it a wonderful one. The room (and house) was better than advertised and the neighborhood a delight. We were able to bike everywhere we wanted to and the host family friendly and helpful with dining/activity suggestions. "Boots" is a very friendly cat, and loves his belly scratched, but be quick about it, his claws are sharp! :-)

  • Perfect location in a great family home. Loved my stay!

  • Had an amazing stay at the Hartley home. The room was in the back of the house and had its own bathroom so there was lots of privacy. The bed was comfortable and they provided coffee, tea, and water. Neighborhood is in the Hawthorne District and within walking distance to bars, eateries, shops, and bus lines. Not too far from Downtown as well. It was perfect! Lyric and Meg were very hospitable, friendly, and accommodating. We were able to check in early and receive 2 keys so we could do our own thing when we wanted. They have two kids and are very family oriented yet we were able to come and go as we pleased, we just had to take our shoes off when we entered and be quiet when coming in late. I would definitely recommend staying here, you wont be disappointed. Staying with a really sweet family made me feel safe and welcomed in a city far from home.

  • Very cozy and convenient and clean, in the middle of the family's house but nicely self-contained with a private bath, and in a great neighborhood. Quick, reliable communication from the friendly hosts. Ideal for the "quick business trip" part of my trip to Portland.

  • Lyric and Meg are a lovely, social and well-communicating couple and they were a pleasure to deal with. Their warm and cozy family home is located in trendy SE Portland, in the middle of best parts of awesome Belmont and Hawthorne Streets that are lined with great cafes, restaurants, boutiques and bars. You can reach downtown very easily: the bus takes you directly to downtown Portland in 15 minutes (runs every 15 mins) and has a stop about 3 mins walk from the house. Your room looks exactly as in the pictures. It is located in the back of the house's 1st floor and is accompanied by good, cozy and totally private bathroom. Overall, very convenient and relaxing.

  • We had a sweet experience staying with Lyric and family. They were friendly, welcoming, and available. The room was comfortable and bright. We really enjoyed the little extras like coffee, tea and water in the room. It was a cozy little getaway. The neighborhood is the best! We walked everywhere and found delicious food and coffee and exciting art all over town.

  • This was a very nice place to stay - a lovely, cosy room (with a supremely comfortable bed) in a really nice friendly house. We especially liked having an ensuite.
The house is in a great location - Minutes walk to Hawthorne Street (filled with great restaurants, bars and breweries), Belmont st (sublime coffee at Stumptown, a great breakfast spot in the Cricket Cafe, and a bus that goes to downtown - all just around 5 minutes walk or less).

Meg and Lyric are great people - super helpful, down to earth and friendly. One morning an appraiser came to inspect the house and needed to get into our room. It was a bit of a surprise, but not a problem at all as he was there for about 15 seconds (and it was around 10am) - however, Meg was so apologetic that she insisted on giving us a bottle of wine! We tried to not accept it but Meg wouldn't take no for an answer.

Overall we would highly recommend this to anybody traveling to Portland - in fact, we can't wait until our next visit.

  • A perfect introduction to Portland! This was my first airbnb experience, and Lyric was very helpful and available for some questions I had before we arrived. Our room was welcoming, quiet and clean, with some very helpful brochures/maps and recommendations from Lyric and Meg. It was a great home base for exploring the city- just a beautiful walk from Division St and a quick bus ride downtown. This is a really lovely place to stay at an excellent price, and we would highly recommend it!
