A 2 bedroom cottage located 15 minutes from Paia..10 minutes from Haiku on the Hana highway. The cottage has all amenities; full kitchen, satellite TV; wi/fi; hot tub. Spectacular ocean views; complete privacy. You can listen to whales...
After a couple suggestions, we have remodeled the bathroom to make the shower more inviting…we took out the tub and made it a nice walk in shower…..But most guest love the outside shower the best
Jon's place is simply stunning. The view is incredible, and the location is off the Maui beaten path in a great way. This is not a typical tourist experience, and gives a unique perspective into life on a subtropical island. Highly recommended.
Once we arrived on the property, the owner was there to greet us and show us around. Life is all about experiences and this Seaside Cottage was a great experience. We enjoyed the seclusion and the entire purpose was to celebrate our anniversary. Jon told us some places to go. It is roughly 20 minutes from the main area of Paia, but wasn't a problem. You are already on the "Road to Hana". We were able to go around the island fairly well. The main things to remember are to enjoy the beauty of Maui, the serenity of the island/cottage and love and reconnect with the person you love, before going back to the hectic city life. If you are looking for razzle dazzle, then this is not the place for you.
Amazing stay great for anyone who is tired of the busy hotel life. We loved all our stay. One of the greatest views and the sounds of the ocean make this one of the coolest places I've stayed!
While a few minutes off the Hana Highway on a bumpy, gravel road, we found it a convenient location - 1:30 to Lahaina (which we had to drive to one day) and 1:30 to Hana (which we were happy to visit again after honeymooning there). The views, the sound of the water breaking on the rocks below, the hot tub, and the outdoor shower were amazing! We went in the end of December and I was very cold in the house. Not all of the windows closed entirely and a couple window panes were missing from a slat window. So if you stay here in winter, definitely bring a jacket and pants. Also, before you go grocery shopping: don't expect to find any condiments in the fridge - it was left unplugged (probably to save electricity between visits). And the few spices that were in the cupboard were suspect (probably from the weather). Afterwards, I realized that I could've asked the host if we could borrow some items so maybe try that. Overall, a neat place to stay.
This place was everything I had hoped it would be. It was very private and secluded. The view was stunning and the night sky from the hot tub was epic. I highly recommend this place especially if your wanting to get out into nature but still pamper yourself. It's a wonderful place to take a step back and breath.
Jon was a great host. The place was quiet and clean. The pictures don't do it justice. The view is spectacular and you would be hard pressed to find a better view not only in Maui but all of Hawaii. It is your own personal paradise. If I return to Maui the only place I will stay is here.
We enjoyed our experience at Jon's cottage but did have some problems with the place.
Part of the reason why my boyfriend and I went the AirBnB route is because we love to get a more local experience (instead of a resort experience) but also we were on a tight budget.
We love to cook as many meals as we can at home, so we went and bought a bunch of groceries on our way to the house -- and when we got there the fridge didn't feel that cold. In the morning, most of our food was spoiled because it indeed wasn't working. Additionally any groceries we left on the counter (fruit, etc.) was covered with ants.
The water pressure wasn't the best either in the shower, and then the last day I had left some posters on the kitchen counter -- and after I did the dishes my boyfriend noticed the counter was all wet. The faucet on the sink had been leaking apparently. And all my posters were soaked and ruined.
I will say that views from this cottage are stunning! It was relatively clean and in nice shape, and we took advantage of the washer/dryer and hot tub.
I never actually met Jon, but he did answer my call to come help us turn the TV on but we weren't at the cottage at that moment. Also, I never called to complain about these things because my boyfriend and I just wanted to enjoy our last 5 days in Maui and it didn't seem like any of these things could be fixed immediately anyhow.
Unfortunately, we get reviews complaining about things that could be fixed if we are told about them. If I stayed in a place and there was a leak that requires a bolt to be tightened…and I didn't call the owner because I felt that my privacy was more important than the bolt, then I wouldn't end up complaining to anyone about it..I am right next door. I am always around…. I am a plumber and an electrician. Anything can be fixed in about 2 seconds. We actually have extras for every possibility. There is an extra refrigerator in the garage…It is brand new…we have it for emergencies… I would tell anyone staying here that if there is a problem..I can fix it..but I need to know about it…The cottage is booked about 99% of the time. I usually find out about issues when someone tells me…Nothing is perfect..but a place should be judged by the response of the owners to any problems….The one time they called me about the satellite..I was up there within 5 minutes...
