Affordable, Safe and Secure accommodation for short term or long term stay in the heart of San Francisco near union square with easy access to public transportation!! Sheldon Hotel offers spacious newly renovated private rooms equipped with their own private bathrooms, free cable television and internet , mini-fridge.
The walls are pretty thin and the sheets looked dirty. Everything else was quite nice; bathroom was clean, easy access to facility late night, reasonable price, hot showers, and central location.
Taking into account the low price, it is a very good place. Room is clean, you have your own bathroom (even some shampoo and soap was given!). It is true that you hear the noise of the street (especially at night when every thing is quiet and when the firemen went!!!
People at the front desk are very nice, they even keep my luggage for me the last day.
Location is perfect, 2 blocks from square union on the safe side.
Wi-fi works well.
Next time I will probably choose this place again.
(good japanese restaurant near)
Sheldon hotel is like having your temporary apartment. I was there end of Dec.2013 for 3 nights. you will get a clean private room and private bath with the bed you want (i got a queen bed). fresh linens, towels and some toiletries. Like your own apartment you have to keep it clean during your entire stay. There is no housekeeping to make your bed or take out your trash. It's more than a hostel but somehow less than a hotel. It was ok for me as i'm not a messy person. But it does have a small refrigerator, tv and wifi access. The staff/front office are very helpful and nice. Someone always mans the front office. If you are driving coming to SF there is a near by parking lot (just around the corner). Anytime between Jan-Nov. (i think), the parking lot will accept hotel validation, you just pay a discounted price. From around 30+/day to around less than or equal to $20/day. They won't accept hotel validation in December, their rates will be $40 or more per day before of Dec.31. On Dec. 31 it will jump to $100-$150 for one night.
Aside from having a clean room, the location of this place is great. It is 3 blocks from union square! You are ,at the center of San Francisco. Once in union square you can take the cable car that will take you to tourist spots of the city like farmers market, lombard (the crooked street) etc. It's 15mins walk to china town if you want to have dimsum. about 20 minutes walk to the embarcadero, most of the places is walking distance so be prepared to walk. Public transportation is easy in this city.
Over all my stay at Sheldon hotel was great. I had an affordable place to stay in the center of San Francisco.
It's a very simple apartment. There are little things here and there you can nitpick, but for the price you cannot complain. I'd stay there again.
Great room, no issues with pests or cleanliness, friendly staff, wonderful neighborhood.
Think HOSTEL. A more-than-descent hostel. The location is great, but it is right on the cusp of The Tenderloin district and the "fashion" district. If you venture into The Tenderloin (west of the hotel) it is drastically different from the other direction toward Union Square (east of the hotel). The Tenderloin is a pretty run down district with lots of homeless people, unfortunately. There are some international cuisine restaurants that way, but some may feel uncomfortable with the often annoyingly brusque people in that area.
I will point out two distinctions that are unique to this "hotel" that you may appreciate. One: the sheets and towels smelled fantastic, better than almost all of the hotels and hostels I have stayed in. They don't smell like bleach and harsh chemicals. It's a small gesture that is worth noting. Two: the people at the front counter are actually very nice. They greet you every time you enter and leave and they seem interested in helping you with problems that come about. Someone is there 24 hours.
I did have one issue with the people at front desk, however. There is a communication problem between the AirBnB manager and the front desk. Other reviews have commented on the flexibility of checking out. And while the AirBnB manager I contacted via email informed me that I could check out a little later, the front desk had no knowledge of this, and when I mentioned this to the front desk, they said that contacting the AirBnB manager had no effect on how late I could check out. This all doesn't make much sense, and I wonder who is really in charge of running the day-to-day facilitations of the booking of the hotel. Then the front desk blamed me of holding up the room for the next person to check in. It came off as rude, but I think that they were just defending their position and the guidelines that are written down.
We'll all have our own stories, and it's clear that this "hotel" is a little unprofessionally managed, but it gets the job done and the room was comfortable enough to not have to worry about it while doing my thing in SF.
Awesome location! Very affordable, clean, private bedroom and bathroom. Would definitely come back. Just be aware that check-out is at 10am which I wasn't told until the day of when they kicked me out at noon. They could've been more understanding about the situation since their airbnb listing says that check-out time is flexible. Would've been 5-stars if it wasn't for this.
