We had a wonderful stay at Nita's house. The house was clean and the location can't be beat. We also wanted to say how wonderful her property manager Michael is! An incredibly kind person :)

It's difficult for us to say if we liked the place or not. I think the best way to review it is just say exactly what happened. Nita was very prompt at responding when I asked for a reservation. She also offered help with booking activities around the place and letting us check in early since there was no one at the place before us that day. We arrived there and the place around the house is extremely beautiful. There is approximately an 8 - 10 km road leading from the main road to her house, the condition of which is horrendous. We drove over 1000 Kms in the week we were in Costa Rica and nothing came close to that. So it will take you an hour just going through that road and then there is a road uphill to her house which is well not really a road at all and gets very treacherous in rains. An SUV is your best bet but even then that travel will definitely leave you torn. The property is taken care of by Juan who is nice but has a day job and not quick to respond while he is at it and try's to run the bnb through mike who is not reliable to show up. The day we reached there, we lost power and then we lost water. While I understand that's not something Nita can control, I certainly believe that she would not want her guest so uncomfortable that they can't shower, brush, well literally do anything at all. We stayed there without power and water for almost the entire stay. We hoped for a cancellation or a part refund because the kind of hardship we experienced, I don't think it's imaginable. When I spoke to Nita about it, the reply we got was and I quote, ' Welcome to the 3rd world and we hope weather gets better for you soon.' If I wanted to experience that kind of third world, I would have camped somewhere and not been there. She had a back up generator which lasted all of three hours and I had to literally plead for an hour for Juan to show up and the reason he wouldn't show up is he had no gas for his vehicle. So after I made this terrible drive up at the end of the day when I expected the generator to be set up since we specifically asked him to, he tells me that I need to come pick him up at his place which is outside of town so he can come fix it. I felt like I was the caretaker at times. It was a terrible mess and I really think Nita should have cancelled the booking and we wouldn't have to go through this. There were ants in the sugar, the other spices and things which Nita blamed the weather and the humidity for. We felt very betrayed and left to fend for ourselves, which...

Response from Nita:
Wow. I can only apologize for the difficulties that Apurva experienced, that are in the realm of my control. We allowed them to check in at 6:00 AM on the day of their reservation and I was not told of any problems with the house, until the next morning, when I got an email saying the water and power had gone out. They were NOT without power and water for their whole stay, but only for a few hours and that was due to some extreme weather in the area. I responded to get the backup systems activated as soon as possible. At no time did they ask me about a cancellation or a refund for their stay nor did they mention that they were wanting to check out.. As far as I was made aware, and although they had a very unusual experience during their stay, to my knowledge it was all under control. I would never be so flippant as to respond to a guest in the way that I was so loosely quoted here and you would have to read that statement in it's entire context to understand. It is true that some of the roads in Costa Rica are in terrible shape. We have tried as a community for over a year to get some work done on the main road to El Castillo, but there is no money in the Municipality for repairs at this time. This is WHY we always strongly recommend a 4x4 for our area. I will note that neither the guests before or after this guest, had any issues and they loved their stay. I feel I did the best I could under the circumstances and as far as Our Caretaker goes, we will address these issues with him promptly.

Nita and Marty were wonderful hosts. Their property manager, Juan was so helpful and kind during our stay. This home is an absolute gem, off the beaten path. Nita's reccomendations were perfect and helped us make the most of our time in the Arenal area. I would suggest future guests to print out and throughly read all driving directions before arrival!

Phenomenal experience! The Encantada Guest House is super nice, with great views and scenery! Would definitely stay again if in the La Fortuna/El Castillo area. I will say, a vehicle with sufficient ground clearance is a MUST to reach this property, but that was half the fun!

The Encantada guest house was amazing! My girlfriend and I stayed in one of the bedrooms but were lucky enough to have the house to ourselves the whole time! The views of Lake Arenal and the volcano were very nice, and offered a very good place to watch sunsets and unwind after busy days exploring. The only issue was a small communication confusion with the housekeeper and getting the keys to get in, but we just watched the first sunset on the porch while we waited for him! Once in the house it was very comfortable and well furnished. We really liked being in a more private setting and had no problem getting up the road in our rental 4x4, even in the rain. We would recommend to friends!

We are absolutely in love with this off-the-beaten-path home. Gorgeous views, a short hike to a little creek, a huge shower with plenty of hot water and pressure, and beautiful tile and woodwork. There is everything you could possibly need to make your stay comfortable and relaxing. The bed is super soft and cozy, and Nita even has a ton of DVDs to watch. We found some amazing restaurants nearby, including the delicious and fairly priced La Mesa de Mama and Pizza John's. The people are friendly and helpful, and Juan (Encantada's caretaker) was an absolute angel. Nita could not have been more helpful with travel and tourist tips. Very highly recommend -- we'll be sending friends Nita's way, and I hope to see the finalized B&B they are building!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Encantada Guest House. The location was really close to the Arenal and some day adventures, yet it was private enough and had a beautiful view. The house was very clean and the caretaker was very responsive. We would definitely stay again!
