Interaction with Guests
Listing is a private room in a townhouse shared with myself and doxie puppy Winnie Cooper. We interact as much or as little as our guests require. We like to show off AusTex and provide tours on request, take our guests to the Flying Saucer for a brew or two, and provide lifts to/from 6th Street or events so parking, imbibing and driving is not an issue. We like our guests to have fun and enjoy their stay in AusTex!
Quiet townhouse community with no through traffic.
Capitol Metro bus stop 0.6 miles away.
Dave and Winnie were both very nice. Check-in and checkout was very flexible as well. Dave’s was easy to find except the address listed is not the correct one, he texted us the correct address a day before our arrival. The neighborhood is safe and very quiet, about a $15 Uber to the city. We stayed in one of the upstairs bedrooms. The place did not exactly meet our cleanliness standards, as Winnie is not very well trained, there were urine stains in our bedroom and throughout the house. The carpet definitely needs a good cleaning. My boyfriend and I stayed at Dave’s to attend SXSW, which is a very busy time for the city. There were six people staying in the room across from ours, which lead to some issues with sharing a bathroom. One night there were also six people on air mattresses in the living room along with the six across the hall and another couple in the downstairs bedroom so the place was very crowded. The people on air mattresses left a day early because they had expected to have two bedrooms. I would advise to communicate thoroughly with Dave before arrival to make sure you know what exactly you are booking. (The group across the hall from us was of the understanding that they were getting the whole house to themselves.) Overall, our stay was fine despite it being very crowded some nights and the cleanliness of the carpets and bathroom.
All my listings are for "Private Room", not "Entire House". The difficulty is large groups search for a "Private Room" and then seem to expect multiple BR's fro the price of one. I have tried to prevent this in the future by limiting the MAXIMUM number of guests in a "Private Room" to x4.
SXSW is the premier short term stay period in AusTex so I try to get a variety of folks into the man cave and attempt to keep them happy. The group on air mattresses in the living room one night knew up front they would be sleeping on the floor and hence brought sleeping bags. There were actually x7 guests in that party.
I have to continually ask, what are large groups (>4 people) expecting for about $50/night? If togetherness is an issue then go get 2-3 hotel rooms at peak rates and pay several hundred dollars for a night's stay. OR look for "Entire House" listings on airBNB and pay a similar amount during peak times.
Dave is very helpful. He reply the msg very quickly so my check in time can be decided very flexible. He and Winnie are very nice and easy to hang out. The bed is clean and neat and comfortable. The room noise isolation is good, so it's very quite too. I am very satisfied with this place.
Dave was very helpful during our stay; he gave us plenty of recommendations for things to do and restaurants to visit in Austin. He was very approachable and easy to chat with; he even made us coffee in the mornings.
Winnie and her human were lovely! Very kind and accomodating, with recommendations for restaurants and other places to visit. Our dog Lucy was also treated very well - Winnie even let her have some coveted dog bones :)
Our host went out of his way to help us find the location due to my GPS not working right. The welcome went beyond that when we arrived.
The location is good for Austin and we were able to drive near the campus and various restaurants easily.
If you stay here, you should be ok with a dachshund (Winnie Cooper) in the home.
We didn't see the upstairs rooms so can't say anything about them. We we in the Master Bedroom downstairs. The bed was comfortable.
We'd return again--very friendly host, Winnie (the dog) is cute as can be, coffee was made for us, and all is good here.
Whitney and her human were very accommodating, even with a last-minute situation. Directions and parking or easy and I was made to feel welcome right away. Thanks and woof to Winnie!
