Where you’ll be

Fujiyoshida, 山梨県, Japan

The Fujiyoshida Fire Festival (吉田の火祭り) is celebrated at Fuji Sengen shrine on the last Thursday of August, announcing the close of the climbing season of Mt. Fuji. It has been named one of the three most peculiar festivals to still be celebrated in Japan. A torch is kindled at every house front in Fujiyoshida, and the city is then said to resemble a “sea of fire.” Soon after this festival, the summer climbing season of Mt. Fuji ends.

The trail to the top of Mt.Fuji opens from July 1st to September 15th however, the hiking bus to the Mt.Fuji 5th station is running from mid-April to early November. It takes about 50 minutes from the base to the 5th station. The tickets are available at Fujisan station and Kawaguchiko station.

Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway (Kachi-Kachi Cable Car)
Great viewpoint of Mt.Fuji and Kawaguchiko Lake, 12 minutes by train (Kawaguchiko Station) or bus from our hostel. Open every day, and the round trip tickets are 700 yen for adults and 350 yen for children. You can also hike up the mountain (a 60-minute hike up).

Fuji-Q-Highland Amusement Park is well known as one of the most exciting amusement parks in Japan. 8 minutes by train from Gekkoji station. Fujiyama Onsen (hot spring) offers the relaxation of traditional Japan. Guests can enjoy the view of Mt. Fuji.

Ice Cave and Wind Cave-lava flowed into the forest after the eruption of Mt. Fuji and as it was cooling, the trees were burnt and that is how the caves were made. The inside of the caves are permanently 0 degrees. In the old days, the locals kept silk warms utilizing natural refrigeration. The groundwater of Fuji which oozed from the ceiling has made the pond of brilliant natural icicle and ice.

Hello! Thank you for choosing Mt. Fuji Hostel Michael`s to be your Host in Fujiyoshida. I am an American living in Fujiyoshida for more than 25 years (and counting) now. My wife, Kazuko was born here in Fujiyoshida so we decided to open up an affordable place where backpackers can stay while visiting our town, that`s why we opened the Hostel. I was in the Air Force for 20 years but am now retired. I enjoy playing Golf, watching NFL (Go Packers), meeting new people from around the world and just having fun each day.
