Our beach shack is perfect for an easy-going, relaxed time away. Smiths Beach has a really chilled feel to it - safe and easy for families, local cafe/shop in walking distance, beach only a few minutes walk away and surf shop nearby.
This very relaxed beach house has 3 bedrooms, a large open plan living space and a big grassy backyard.
It is located a 5 minute walk from Smiths Beach on the south side of the island. It's about a 10 minute drive from the main town of Cowes on the island. The house is also a 5 minute drive from the Grand Prix track.
There are 3 bedrooms, sleeping 7 people:
Bedroom 1 – 1 x Queen Bed
Bedroom 2 – 1 x Queen Bed
Bedroom 3 – 1 x Bunk Bed, 1 x Single Bed
Living area: Couches, TV, DVD player, VCR, iPod/CD player and gas heating.
Kitchen: microwave, fridge, gas oven and cooktop.
Bathroom/laundry: shower, toilet, laundry sink, washing machine.
Outside: covered carport, gas BBQ and outdoor seating.
Tenants are required to provide their own linen and towels. Pillows, doonas and plenty of blankets are supplied for each bed.
Remember, this is a proper much-loved family beach shack and has a very 'no frills' feel to it. So feel free to chill out, relax and treat it as you would your own home!
Interaction with Guests
We won't be at the house for your stay but we live nearby some of the time so are sometimes available if needed.
We have a great cafe / general store in Smiths Beach with some of the best coffee on the island. It's also handy to be able to pick up basic groceries from here or grab some fish & chips and a dimmy.
The iconic 'Island Surf Shop' is also in Smiths Beach. They have surfing lessons available most of the year and access to hire surf boards.
The beach itself at Smith's is fantastic and one of the best on the island. It is known as both a great, safe family beach and pretty good surfing spot too. It's patrolled most of summer.
It's best that you have a car when you are in Phillip Island so that you can drive into the town of Cowes (10 mins from the house) or to the national parks on the island.
Other Things to Note
We supply some complimentary toilet paper but it may not always be enough for your stay depending on the length of stay and number of guests. You may be expected to buy your own.
We do not supply linen or towels for the house - so please bring these with you for your stay.
We do not supply breakfast. However, some basic tea, coffee and other cooking supplies are at the house. Feel free to use anything you find in the pantry!
Please, no parties, no schoolies and no smoking inside.
The shack is in a great location, only a couple minutes walk to the beach which we enjoyed everyday. There is plenty to do around the house with the variety of DVDs, a large yard for cricket and a fire pit for the relaxing moments.
We enjoyed our stay, smiths beach area is great, the beach shack is what it says it is , we found it provided a relaxed vibe and would go back again
This no frills beach shack was perfect for an end of year family adventure.
Large rooms, piles of blankets and pillows, heaps of utensils/crockery/cookware in the kitchen, laundry, lush green grass in the back yard complete with rabbits stopping by, BBQ, and close to surf beach and all Phillip Island has to offer.
Oh and of course the extensive range of DVDs was appreciated - definitely something for everybody.
Nothing was too much trouble and I was even forgiven for locking the keys inside when we left!
We loved it and really enjoyed the opportunity to explore a part of the country we were previously unfamiliar with, with the beach shack as our base.
We enjoyed Anna's house very much. It was the perfect starting point to discover Phillip Island. It got a little chilly outside, so we stayed home at night and watched a few of the many many many DVDs. Great collection :) The house is warm and welcoming and the kitchen was very well equipped. Smith Beach is just down the road and very pretty as well. Thanks Anna! We will recommend your place to our friends.
First of all, I really appreciate Anna's responsibility and her help during the booking.
There were a few things that we liked about the house, such as the large variety of movies and cartoons for kids and the back yard fire and BBQ, but the bed stuff were far from expectations as they weren't clean and the house totally didn't look clean as apparently it was left for a while.
This house was my sixth booking through AIRBNB and definitely it wasn't the best one. I suggest to Anna to provide enough towels, bed sheets, new blankets and a couple of new and clean mobs and squeegees and to supervise on the cleaning process.
We expected a very basic breakfast, and we found a few things, but use by date of two of them were expired.
I think by fixing a few basic things, this place can be better house to live.
Sorry to hear about some of these things Ali!
As per the listing, we don't supply linen or towels for the beds at all and ask tenants to bring their own. But thanks for pointing this out as I might make it a little clearer in the listing!
In addition, breakfast is not included in the price. We only offer the basic tea, coffee, sugar and cooking basics like oil, etc. But again I will ensure this is made a little clearer in this listing.
Thanks for your stay! Our cleaner did say you left the house in very nice condition!
The shack is as described and it was really to operate everything. Anna was responsive to email and sms and was really a no fuss mini-break. My pooch loved the relaxed open area and I can vouch for the heating on what was a very rainy day.
The place was fully equiped with kitchen items and essentials. Plenty of blankets and lounge space. The dvd variety is enormous and was quite welcomed on a rainy night in. Don't expect a luxury bathroom, a simple shower and tiny basin, but it is a shack and the hot water service is awesome! The only suggestion I would have is that there is a $50 surcharge for cleaning but it is also requested that the house be left clean. The expectation around this was unclear.
Thanks for pointing that out Tamara! We've actually only recently added the cleaning fee because many people would rather pay and not have to worry about cleaning as they leave! Because this has only just changed some of the instructions on Airbnb and at the house still ask people to leave the house as they found it - clean and tidy. However, I'll make sure I correct all of this!
So glad you enjoyed the rest of your stay!
Anna was great in helping me, the place had everything I needed. It was mid-week, I did not hear or see a neighbor. Slept very deeply.

I live in Melbourne but love to travel as much as possible throughout the year. When I'm at home I often share my city house with travellers and enjoy showing people around my city and surrounds. I also have two family beach houses in Phillip Island, Victoria to offer travellers as well.
