Description

The space

We are located on the 'Gold Coast' of Costa Rica, in the province of Guanacaste, on the the Nicoya Peninsula, Pacific Coast.

We have called our Costa Rican home, Villa Romantica, because it is just that, one of the most romantic spots you can find with sunsets that are truly out of this world. The independent house is directly on the beach, Playa Prieta. We are 50 meters from the warm Pacific Ocean with nothing to obstruct your view or access. We are located within a gated community of twelve homes on six acres of landscaped gardens. As a part of this community we have gardeners, maids, handymen and night guards, all to serve you.

The Livingroom is 32' x 12' and features four comfortable sofas and coffee tables, a large flat screen cabled TV with English language stations...all facing a bank of windows on the sea. The Livingroom can be opened to the open air or enclosed with banks of screen doors or glass doors.

The master en-suite bedroom features a 12' wide window looking out at the ocean. The views from the Queen sized luxury bed are breathtaking. The en-suite bathroom has granite countertops, handmade vessel sinks and travertine floors and wall surrounds. There is a huge glass enclosed shower as well.
The ceiling of the bathroom is translucent to allow in the light and create a feeling of being out-of-doors while allowing complete privacy.

The second bedroom has a Queen sized bed as well as a twin bed which is set up as a daybed/couch. There are sliding glass doors leading out to a private terrace and yard and the outdoor shower.

The third bedroom has two twin beds and shares a bath with the second bedroom. The bathroom is exactly the same as is the master suit bath.

Each of the bedrooms has its own individual AC system.

The kitchen has all the modern touches you would need: Granite countertops and backsplash, Frost free refrigerator, Dishwasher, Stove and oven, Microwave, Blender, Coffee Maker, Rice Cooker, pots and pans, dishes and flatware, etc.

The home is surrounded with a beautiful terrace with a table for six for outdoor dining as well as three different daybeds for relaxing and dreaming while looking at the sea.

There are Palm Fronde ceiling fans in all the rooms as well as in the patio area.

The house is ON Playa Prieta, in the town of Potrero, in a gated community of 12 houses on 6 garden acres called Villas Estival.
Potrero is an authentic Costa Rican village in the midst of the region’s rustic ranch land; you might see cowboys herding their cattle past the town square’s soccer field. There are small restaurants, bars and groceries in the village.

Locally there are many activities including fishing, sailing, kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, hiking, horseback riding, canopy tours, ATV adventures.

Playa Flamingo is a short 10 minute drive away, with restaurants, shops, nightlife, marina, cruising, deep sea fishing and resort activities. The beach town of Brasalito is another 5 minutes away with more nice restaurants and is a real Tico village. The Conchal Resort and golf course is near here.

Within 30 minutes is Tamarindo and Playa Grande, one of the surfing capitals of the world. There you can surf, take lessons, eat, shop, or just lie on the beach.

From the beach, it's a 1hour drive to the cities of Liberia or Santa Cruz, 11/2 hours to Buena Vista Lodge on Rincon de la Viejo volcano with white water rafting, hot mud baths, thermal springs and much more, 2 hours from the Nicaragua border, and 3 hours to Arenal Volcano, or to the Monteverde Rain Forest.

The house is absolutely as described, it is a little piece of paradise. To wake up to that beach everyday is amazing. The sound of the waves can be heard all day and night. And the sunsets are a show you do not want to miss! The beach is wonderful for swimming and we suggest bringing boogie boards, they seemed to be lots of fun for the other guests. You will need a car, there are some things that are walking distance but for shopping for groceries and going out to eat you will need to drive. We shopped in the local shops which were perfect, especially the local produce stand. We ate fresh produce everyday, including pineapple which is a absolute must! We ate at a local restaurant called La Soda Tipica, you can ask at the front office for the exact location, Margina will take great care of you. The food is typical Tico, great quality, fresh and yummy. We also enjoyed La Vaca Loca for a great grilled steak and the Tikki Bar for a good burger. The Wednesday farmers market at the school is a must do, just follow the signs. All in all we absolutely loved Playa Prieta, the house and the area and plan to definitely return. It is safe, lovely and clean. Everything I want in a good family vacation. Barbara was very easy to communicate with and did her best to be great host.

This is such a beautiful home and location! Spectacular view! Beach front property!! Only a few steps to the beach! Lots of exploring! Easy to walk into Potrero! Very secluded and perfect with friends and ideal for families! Lovely home! Make this your next vacation villa! We were there ten days and could have easily stayed a month! Loved it!!!

The house is spacious and clean and located on a beautiful sandy beach. There's a well kept pool for swimming. There are many amenities nearby and Flamingo and Tamarindo are a short drive away. I recommend staying here.

Barbara's place, Villa Romantica, was an absolute pleasure to stay at. The house was right on the beach, great amenities, very clean. Barbara was great from day one, giving detailed driving and arrival instructions. The house was great, cleaning crew came exactly when they said, the grounds of the complex were beautiful. Couldn't have asked for a better more relaxing 5 days!!! We will be back!!

We had a lovely time in at Barbara's villa in guanacaste. This was our third trip to the area. Barbara was great. responsive and helpful. Pros: Great location - on a nice beach. Listen to the waves crash while you sleep. Within 10 mins drive to some good restaurants, grocery, produce mart. Easy drive to some other renowned beach spots like tamarindo and conchella. Really nice spot. Cons: Not the best value for money- Unit isn't being well maintained by property management in my opinion to fit luxury standards. Dirty walls, living area cushions are stained. Kitchen not equipped enough for longer stays (we were there two weeks). Noisy screechy master bed wasn't very comfortable for us. Management company was not, during my stay, responsive to maintenance requests from the owner. Though whenever I needed anything and spoke to the grounds keepers directly they were very helpful and quickly responsive. Nice and hard working on-site staff but I think management might be a problem. Infrastructure (which I've had at other rentals on guanacaste) a bit lacking - poor unreliable internet connection (I think it's split throughout the compound). No phone in the unit so couldn't call reception or local restaurants etc. No washing machine in the unit, again a con for longer stays with kids. All in all it was a great stay but a bit short of what we expected for what we paid. Costa Rica never disappoints.

Our stay at Villa Romantia was fantastic. The house was clean, nicely furnished and secure. The grounds were well kept and the pool maintained nicely. The location was quiet and peaceful though it was within striking distance to some of the more heavily traveled tourist locations of Tamarindo and Flamingo. You will hear monkeys howling throughout the day, there are beautiful birds, multiple types of lizards and butterflies abound. Barbara was very responsive and helpful. She was quick to answer questions and provide information on the area. The staff at the complex was courteous and quick to accommodate. We highly recommend this property and would stay there again.
