Apartment # 3 which we have named "The Refuge," is a one-bedroom guesthouse which is ideal for a married couple or a single. It is modern, on ground floor with no stair to climb, fully furnished with hot & cold pressurized water, private telephone line, a refrigerator, gas stove and oven, microwave oven, stainless steel kitchen sink, and cabinets with a full compliment of dishes and cookware. The great room is comprised of the kitchen, dining and living areas.
There is a breakfast bar & stools in the dining area and living room furniture, lamp, Cable TV, and High speed wired Internet & WiFi service. It has a light & airy atmosphere with skylights and windows as well as sufficient electric lights. There are laundry facilities - a washer and 2 dryers, which are shared with the other two guesthouses. Our climate is pleasant the year round with top temperatures at 80° and low at about 50° at night sometimes in January. See the photos attached
In the large bedroom, there is a double bed, and is equipped with a closet, 2 dressers, lamps, mirrors and a good sized window with curtains and mini-blinds. Towels and bed linens are furnished. There is a modern bath with hand basin, toilet & shower. Although there are very few flies and mosquitoes, the exterior door and all the windows have screens. There is an abundance of plants in the yard and flowers that bloom the year round. Total living space is 350 Ft or 35 mt.
Our situation is very secure, for there is an 8-foot wall that completely surrounds the property and there are extensive sidewalks. There is privacy, since the guesthouse is separate from the other two Apartments and from our own house. We try to make this a homey situation rather than a cold apartment complex. We are located immediately to the rear of Hotel Santo Domingo on the Northeast side of Antigua & a person can access the hotel by walking out our rear property door and into the rear access of the hotel.
- There is an ATM machine in the hotel, and although taxis are available, we are within easy walking distance of stores and markets. There is secure parking as well.
* The rent includes washer and dryer and all utilities and includes High speed Internet & WiFi and TV cable. The phone - (just usage), Bottled water is available. The refundable deposit is returned upon leaving the apartment in an acceptable condition. 10% discount for 3 months or longer
The restrictions are that there be no animals, partying, or smoking. We don't mind a dinner drink, but don't care for excesses.
ABOUT OURSELVES: We are Paul & Ruth Philippi and have been Protestant missionaries in Guatemala for 57 years and have made this country our home. We live in the colonial city of Antigua Guatemala, which is about 25 miles (45 minutes) from Guatemala City, and have all of the conveniences of the city without the drawbacks of the congestion and contamination of the city.
For the rent, either US cash or Guatemalan currency is acceptable. For your information, the best way to pay for your expenses here in Guatemala is to bring a reasonable amount of cash and then use a Debit or credit card to withdraw funds from the ATM. Generally, a visa card works best. Also, it is good to inform your bank or Credit card company that you will be in Guatemala, so they won't put a hold on your card since the charges/withdrawals are from a foreign country. Traveler’s cheques are sometimes difficult to cash here, so best to use a Debit or credit card for obtaining cash money.
As you know, here the fresh vegetables at the native open Market are relatively cheap compared with the U.S. -- Some imported items, of course, are more expensive. The market is located on the west side of Antigua. We have excellent health and dental care here at a very reasonable cost.
No Elevator since it is only on ground floor. No Air Conditioning or heating since our climate is mild the year round. We do have a space heater available.
Stay here and you could give this host their first review!
