Visiting Trastevere: squares, churches, bridges ...
Trastevere is the thirteenth district of Rome, and derives its name from the Latin trans Tiberim (beyond the Tiber) and is now a neighborhood with rich history and particular, narrow roads and irregular, in the heart of Rome between the Colosseum and the Vatican: coming from Castel Sant'Angelo with the river on your left, you come across Ponte Sisto, an overview window on the blond Tiber.
Front of the bridge extends Trilussa Square, dedicated to the Roman dialect poet, whose staircase is a meeting point for evening students and tourists.
Forwarded to his shoulders in the streets of the neighborhood, you can admire the church of Santa Maria in Trastevere, located at the center of the square, and the Museo di Roma in Trastevere, which is dedicated to the folkloric aspects of the city.
Places worth visiting are the church of Sant'Egidio, and from there the Corsini Gallery, which houses works from the Baroque period mannered (including the authors exposed Guido Reni, Giovanni Lanfranco, Caravaggio, Francesco Trevisani, Luca Giordano, Carlo Maratta, Rubens, Andrea Del Sarto).
In front of the gallery, a little farther on, there is the Accademia dei Lincei, founded in 1603 by Federico Cesi and meeting place for leading scientists, including Galileo Galilei.
Still around, Via San Francesco di Sales, you can access the House of Memory and History, Old promoter of cultural events, events to deepen the meaning of key moments in the history of the '900 and Rome.
Back on Via Garibaldi, Porta Settimiana addition, you may proceed to the Piazza della Scala, from there to Piazza San Calisto and the adjacent streets, with their bars and restaurants, reporting to the wider modern Viale Trastevere, and then back to the river passing through Piazza Sonnino, home to the Church of San Crisogono (which is preserved the medieval mosaics by Pietro Cavallini) and the Chiesa di Sant'Agata (where the famous statue of the Madonna de Noantri, patron saint of the neighborhood Trastevere) , to the charming Piazza Gioacchino Belli.
But not before admiring the church of San Francesco a Ripa, which houses the Umbrian saint, which hosts the magnificent Gianlorenzo Bernini's sculpture of the Blessed Ludovica Albertoni.
Today, Trastevere still retains its character through the winding streets covered with paving stones overlooked by medieval houses.
The night is full of people, both Italian and foreign, thanks to the wealth of restaurants and pubs for every price range.
And 'one of the liveliest quarters, characteristic and self-sufficient in the city.
Offers restaurants and pizzerias as well as cinemas, markets, (Saint Cosimato was renovated just recently), banks, pharmacies, supermarkets, shops of every kind and elegant shops.
If you want some suggestions on a typical Roman restaurant, it indicates the restaurant "Da Lucia" in Vicolo del Mattonato, where you can taste the traditional Roman cuisine.
Choosing Sabrina's apartment was a truly wise decision). Ideally located in the heart of Trastevere, this place is fully equipped with all the necessary things - washing machine, tiny kitchenette, perfect heating system, etc. The place is perfectly clean and very cozy. The beautiful rooftop terrace is beyond any (email hidden)brina is a wonderful, absolutely charming host, always ready to help you. We wouldn't think twice about a place to stay the next time we come to Rome.
Sabrina, grazie tantissimo!
Really lovely apartment in a great area of Rome. Ideal location, perfect for wineing and dining with the locals after a busy day checking out all the tourist locations in the city. All the main spots are within walking distance (we did the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona and the Panthenon in one day) and you're only a half hour walk from the Vatican. (Tip: walk up the hill at the back of the apartment to get an amazing panormaic view of the entire city!!)
Trastevere is lively and bustling, but the apartment is just off the main stretch (literally one minute round the corner) so it was never noisy at night. Good sized place for two people sleeping in seperate rooms, as long of you don't mind sleeping in the lounge kitchen area which we found no problem at all.
Fantastic roof space, great for a quick drink in the evening before heading out to the local bars and restaurants.
We didn't require much help from our host Sabrina but she was always extremely quick to respond to emails and text queries, and on our departure she very kindly arranged for a taxi to collect us without any hassle at all.
Would definitely recommend this apartment to others.
Maria
Great location. Close to almost everything. Fantastic restaurants and bars nearby.
I cannot recommend this apartment highly enough. The location cannot be beat, and the apartment has been well-maintained. Sabrina was a fantastic host, and had no problem arranging for a travel crib for our son. There is no doubt where we will be staying next time we are in Rome.
My daughter and I had a fantastic week in Trastevere at Cedro 3.
Great apartment in a brilliant area. After a full day of sightseeing in Rome, only a bus ride away, it was great to come back to the lovely cool apartment with its beautiful roof garden to relax before going out to one of the wonderful and inexpensive local Trastevere restaurants.
Very helpful advice from friendly Sabrina and Bernard. I totally recommend this apartment if you come to stay in Rome! Moya
Propre, spacieux, confortable, très bien situé ...
Sabrina is a model of efficiency and professionalism.
This is not a private apartment but a full-time letting place. It is in a nice location, and Sabrina was available for questions or concerns easy by email. The only drawback was the sofa bed was not very comfortable.
Sabrina was extremely helpful and what a great location. Many thanks Sabrina
