Get away from it all in this private farmhouse retreat. It dates from the 1850s but has been restored and completely updated for today's lifestyle. Completely new modern kitchen and a new designer bathroom downstairs, with living room, dining room, and library. Three bedrooms upstairs with beautiful new master bathroom.

The house is filled with unique and interesting art and objects.

The house is situated on 28 acres with fields, woods, and stream for exploring.

Madison is close to it all: scenery, history, and outdoor activities,. Go hiking on Graves and Old Rag Mountains, explore the Shenandoah and Skyline Drive, shop and dine in Charlottesville, and visit historic Monticello and Montpelier. You are minutes from the Monticello wine trail and wonderful wine tasting! Nearby Culpeper has a charming main street with shops and restaurants.

We have lovingly restored this home to be a welcoming place for weekends or longer stays.

Sitting on the porch and listening to the birds in the morning and star gazing in the clear night.

Madison County is pretty remote!

Note that like in most older farmhouses, there isn't a lot of closet space so thank you for your understanding. :-)

land-line telephone, WiFi, television, DVD player

We are not always available to meet guests when you arrive, and we won't be on the property while you are there.

The area is mostly rural farmland, so it is very quiet. And amazing star-watching at night!

  • This renovated farmhouse has lots of character and is conveniently located near Old Rag, VA wine country, and a few charming small towns. Brian and Chris were very helpful and friendly, and even had a bottle of local wine waiting for us!

  • Our party of two couples had a wonderful time at this beautiful rental. Our experience was just great, and I'd recommend a stay here wholeheartedly.

Our host Brian was absolutely lovely. He went out of his way to make things convenient and ensured that every detail was taken care of. He was also gracious enough to ensure a bottle of wine was waiting for us upon our arrival, which was much appreciated after our drive down.

The farmhouse itself is a gem. It is over 150 years old, and you really get a sense of the house's history, as the owners have been painstaking in their restoration and maintenance. The decor is a delight – beautiful, whimsical and interesting, but never out of sync with the setting and the house itself. There are luxurious touches, particularly in the fabulous bathrooms, but never over the top or tacky, so that you don’t feel disconnected from the rustic countryside, but are still completely comfortable. The house has all the amenities you could want or need, and we spent a very relaxing couple of hours each day just talking on the porch.

The grounds around the house consist of small slopes that are covered in wildflowers. Perfect for laying out a blanket and reading or snoozing in the sun.

The area is gorgeous – rolling hills, small farms like something out of a storybook, and horses grazing in meadows wherever you drive. There are a couple of cute little towns within driving distance that offer options for dining out, and many wineries. Make sure to call ahead as we found a couple of the wineries closed for weddings. We particularly enjoyed Split Rock Vineyards, where we sat beside a creek in the grass and split a bottle of good wine.

There’s kayaking and riding in the area, although we didn’t have the time. We also summitted Old Rag Mountain – it’s a strenuous hike with a long and slightly scary “rock scramble” at the top of the mountain. Be sure to take lots of water and some food.

Overall, I could not recommend the farmhouse and the area enough. It was a perfect getaway for us.

  • I did it again; I had to go back to this wonderful relaxing retreat in the mountains of central Virginia. This weekend’s trip was filled with local thrifting, visiting family minutes into Charlottesville, playing corn-hole, cards, and just doing nothing. Again, Brain ensures that every detail is taken care of with impeccable taste. Experiencing this corridor of Virginia is a great experience. Again, I highly recommend a weekend visit or extended stand.

  • A perfectly renovated farmhouse, located minutes from Madison, and Culpepper, Virginia. Local attractions include James Madison’s (website hidden), Local and National Parks, minutes from Charlottesville, and dozens of Virginia wineries. You can enjoy an outdoor walk to the creek or just sit and read. Brian was a wonderful host that greeted us upon our arrival. I have booked another weekend and plan to do so for some time to come. This part of my little world is what I call "Heaven." I highly recommend an EXTENDED stay or weekend get-a-away.
