Romantic, peaceful orchard home w/views and car access 3 1/2 min walk to University.
Set in a small orchard with orange, avocado, mango, fig, palm and peach trees, La Palma is a little gem nestled half way up a south-facing hillside directly above the Plaza de la Paz with a spectacular view across the Centro to La Bufa and El Pipila. With walls of windows, terraces, a fireplace, beautiful Mexican tilework, an herb garden, birds and butterflies, La Palma is a romantic eco-heaven.
Located on the side of a hill that juts out into the center of Guanajuato, the neighborhood is a traditional Mexican family neighborhood. If you walk downhill 3 1/2 minutes you hit the University, the Plaza de la Paz, and the entire cultural center of GTO with all its theaters, restaurants, museums, live music, etc. If you walk along the flat for a few blocks you'll find numerous food shops for the locals - a fruit and vegetable market, a butcher's, a small grocer's, etc.
One and a half bedrooms - perfect for a couple or a couple with a child. Our 1969 VW camper is normally parked on the top terrace and for an extra fee we can make its bed available if a second/older child would enjoy "glamping."
Car accessibility, a rarity in Guanajuato, makes it easy to get here by taxi, and the scenic walk downhill to the University steps is literally 3 1/2 minutes (a bit more coming back up).
There is no better place in Guanajuato to eat oranges off the tree, watch the stars at night (and fireworks going off from the Presidential Palace above El Pipila) and enjoy the peaceful garden only minutes from the hustle and bustle of the cultural center.
Smoking in the orchard and on terraces only
A gray water system takes water from the house to the orchard, so no bleach or any other heavy-duty cleaning or beauty products down any of the sinks.
Please inform us before you come if you want to bring a pet. Pets must be kept in travel crates when left alone in the house.
Parking on site can be arranged for an additional fee if needed
If you are staying longer than a week we ask you to pay an extra $20/wk cleaning fee
We had a wonderful time at Adam and Raquel's house in Guanajuato! It is a great base from which to explore the city. Although it's up the hill a little ways, you still feel close to the center. I think it took us about 8 minutes to walk down....a little bit longer on the way up!
The house itself is wonderful - very clean, airy and spacious with a lovely garden and view of the city. We used the kitchen quite a bit and appreciated the fact that all the utensils and pots/pans were in really good shape. I'll also mention that the bed was really comfortable - a relief after some of the beds we've slept in in Mexico! The streets are a bit noisy at night - mostly barking dogs. But if you bring your ear plugs it shouldn't really be a problem.
Adam was super accommodating and really helped us feel oriented to the neighborhood and the city. A great experience - highly recommended!
A couple months ago my partner and I decided to go to Mexico on a babymoon. I've been to Mexico 40 + times, but my partner had never visited. So we decided to go to Guanajuato where I had never been so that we'd share the discovery together. We found Racquel and Adam's casita and booked it (based on location and look). Just before leaving we spent a couple nights in La Jolla, California at another guesthouse (not booked thru this site) and it was a disaster. Total rip off. So we were a little gun shy going to Guanajuato. We shouldn't have been. Raquel and Adam's casita is gorgeous. Amazing tile work, roomy, great views and in a neighborhood where we never saw another gringo. R and A are gracious, generous hosts. It was a little rainy and cold when we arrived and they brought us over sweaters, a pea coat and plenty of wood for the fireplace. Raquel took me shopping and introduced me to the local shop keepers. They gave us excellent tips on where to go and what to see and were incredibly attentive to what ever we might need. At the same time, they were very careful to give us both all the privacy we needed. This was the best airbnb experience either of us have ever had. Very highly recommended.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Palma. It was the perfect retreat for our stay in beautiful Guanajuato. The house is very roomy and open with a spectacular view of the city and mountains. The kitchen is very complete with a separate dining area with lovely views and terrace. The location is an ideal 5-7 minute paseo to the centro while feeling safe and very comfortable. The hosts were extremely gracious and responsive and we loved all of the artistic touches (the tile work in the shower itself is a work of art). It is obvious that Raquel has put her heart into the home. We are looking forward to our next stay at Casa Palma.

I am a writer/designer who divides my time between Hoboken, NJ just 1/2 an hour from NYC, and Guanajuato, Mexico. My husband and I design high end, gourmet solar ovens called uitzis. Look "uitzi solar ovens" up online to learn about our solar ovens and cooking with the sun in Guanajuato. I am passionate about design and beauty, and feel incredibly lucky to have such beautiful homes and be able to share them with interesting people. I love being a part of the airbnb community, and have stayed at fabulous places in Amsterdam and Oxford. I am also passionate about food and happy to share recommendations of good local eats! I like reading but am not big on TV so neither of our homes sports a huge, flat screen TV. But both our homes are warm and beautiful with exquisite attention to detail - and if you're on vacation in a fabulous place, do you really want to be watching TV? (Hoboken does have a smaller, flat screen TV and cable.)
