Hanging out cool, in Friedrichshain.
Friedrichshain is situated east of Alexander-platz and is probably the last resort for Berlin’s famous alternative subculture. It is the last district to have been cleared of squatters and is still the center of Berlin's left-wing anarchist scene.
Architecturally speaking, Friedrichshain is an intriguing mix of monumental Stalin-era mammoths (along Karl-Marx-Allee) and stylish, late-nineteenth century town houses. The area around Simon-Dach-Straße and Boxhagenerplatz is heaving with alternative bars, cafes and clubs and is a popular spot with students and artists as well as young Berliners.
Every Saturday Boxhagenerpaltz offers a farmer’s Market while every Sunday the popular flea Market specializes in Gdr souvenirs, young artists selling their work, records, books as well as trash you may just take a shine to. Not far from here is the East Side Gallery, a piece of the wall one kilometer long that after the fall of the wall was turned into a work of art by international artists. On the other side of the wall is the Spree river which also boasts bars and clubs along its banks.
For an inner city district, Friedrichshain offers a large amount of green areas perfect for walking, grilling or simply relaxing. The Friedrichshain Volkspark, one of the biggest parks in Berlin and bursting with activity, is a short bike ride away.
From the underground station Frankfurter Tor its only short 5 minute trip to Alexanderplatz, with its numerous tourist curiosities (television tower, red City council, Berlin cathedral, the museum island (with Pérgamon Museum, altes Museum, Old national Gallery, Bodemuseum, Museum GDR and the Berliner Dom- the great cathedralof berlin), and an endless list of historical and magnificent squares and buildings.
The best known monument of Berlin is doubtless the “Brandenburger Tor”. It has been a symbol for Berlin in all times: before Germany ’s reunification as well as today. The “Neue Regierungsviertel” (new governmental district) is located between the districts of Berlin Mitte and Tiergarten.

L'appartement était tel qu'il est sur les photos, très clairs et assez spacieux pour le prix demandé. Le quartier est très très sympa, à deux pas de la Karl Marx Allee, très recommandable. De même, Eitan Malin est un hôte attentif et responsable.
First of all, the apartment is fine and as depicted in the pictures. Altogether, it was a more "professional" offer without typical airbnb feeling. This would be in general absolutely fine with me. However, being informed about where to pick up the key after the arrival at the place (with luggage!) wasn´t as professional as it could be. I highly recommend to make sure the modalities of the check-in beforehand! Sending a message to Eitan wasn´t sufficient as in my case.
The second thing I didn´t like too much were the extra charges for towels and city tax. As these costs are mandatory, I wonder why they aren´t included in the total room price instead of hiding this information in the fine print.
Especially, paying a city tax without handing out an invoice appeared extremely strange. I have my doubts whether the city of Berlin will ever benefit from this fees...
The city tax and linen and towels appear in the first line of the house rules which the guest had signed that he did(?) read.
I was in the other side of the city and didnt want the guest to wait for me, so i left for him the keys to pick up.
An invoice is being emailed for every guest.
My friend and I stayed in the apartment over new years for 5 nights. We found it a good location and the apartment was basic but clean and had everything we needed. The host was helpful and responsive. The only issue was that we initially found the apartment a little difficult to find within the building as it wasn't numbered and the name on the door didn't correlate. We may have missed something in the notes though. I would recommend staying here as it was good for transport links and based in a more interesting part of Berlin.
Eitan was a very friendly guy. Apartment was spacious and exact as you can see on the pictures. Also easy accessible with S-Bahn and nearby the cosy Grunbergerstrasse area. We had a wonderful stay in Berlin.
The appartment was clean and tidy. But some basic things were missing like rugs and carpets especially in the bathroom. There were no towels in the kitchen . In the photo there are 3 towels and some soaps for each person but we had only 2 towels and no soap. Eitan had promised to bring a rug for the bathroom and fetch more towels with extra charge but he didin't arrive. In other places we did not have to pay extra for linen and towels.
The apartment was clean and looked just as the pictures. We arrived late in the evening, but there was no problem picking up the key - which we did at a place near by.
