Hanging out cool, in Friedrichshain.
Friedrichshain is situated east of Alexander-platz and is probably the last resort for Berlin’s famous alternative subculture. It is the last district to have been cleared of squatters and is still the center of Berlin's left-wing anarchist scene.
Architecturally speaking, Friedrichshain is an intriguing mix of monumental Stalin-era mammoths (along Karl-Marx-Allee) and stylish, late-nineteenth century town houses. The area around Simon-Dach-Straße and Boxhagenerplatz is heaving with alternative bars, cafes and clubs and is a popular spot with students and artists as well as young Berliners.
Every Saturday Boxhagenerpaltz offers a farmer’s Market while every Sunday the popular flea Market specializes in Gdr souvenirs, young artists selling their work, records, books as well as trash you may just take a shine to. Not far from here is the East Side Gallery, a piece of the wall one kilometer long that after the fall of the wall was turned into a work of art by international artists. On the other side of the wall is the Spree river which also boasts bars and clubs along its banks.
For an inner city district, Friedrichshain offers a large amount of green areas perfect for walking, grilling or simply relaxing. The Friedrichshain Volkspark, one of the biggest parks in Berlin and bursting with activity, is a short bike ride away.
From the underground station Frankfurter Tor its only short 5 minute trip to Alexanderplatz, with its numerous tourist curiosities (television tower, red City council, Berlin cathedral, the museum island (with Pérgamon Museum, altes Museum, Old national Gallery, Bodemuseum, Museum GDR and the Berliner Dom- the great cathedralof berlin), and an endless list of historical and magnificent squares and buildings.
The best known monument of Berlin is doubtless the “Brandenburger Tor”. It has been a symbol for Berlin in all times: before Germany ’s reunification as well as today. The “Neue Regierungsviertel” (new governmental district) is located between the districts of Berlin Mitte and Tiergarten.

Eitan was an organized and helpful host! He answered all of my questions in a timely manner. The house was clean and true to the pictures!
We had a great time in Berlin and Eitan's apartment was excellent! Eitan wasn't in town so we picked up the key from a burrito-place nearby. As he had sent us directions this went very smoothly.
The apartment is only a few minutes walk from U-bahn and tram stations. Just across Frankfurter Allee are countless great cafes, restaurants and cocktailbars. Friedrichshain as a whole is very lively and we really enjoyed the area (be sure to check out Cassiopeia on the Revaler Str.!).
All in all it was a really good experience and I would definitely recommend Eitan's apartment when visiting Berlin!
This is very good apartment in a clean and new house. The apartment had everything that we need. There is large supermarket Rewe in 5 minutes walking, several cafes and shops.
Apartment was convenient as it is close to bus, tram and U-Bahn. Although getting the keys took some effort, my parents and I got into it fine. The condition of the apartment was exactly described; Clean, comfy. As I was travelling with my parents, they did not feel very safe with the neighbourhood. There were graffiti all over the place. During one of the nights. The police came to the area and had a standoff with some problem individuals in the area. From the looks of it these types of things does seem to happen quite often in the neighbourhood as people were walking around fine. It seemed harmless but I wouldn't recommend the apartment to families traveling with small children. Overall good experience, and Eitan was very good with communication over the phone. However it was rather lackluster over email or air bnb
The area is totally safe - The police was there because of a demonstration (its a Berliner things that happens all over the city, in all parts of town). same about the Graffiti which in berlin is more of a way of an artistic expression rather than a sign of dangerous people around. and sorry about emails - my phone got broken and had no internet connection for a couple of days.
Room was fine - clean, tidy and quiet. The best part is the location, a short walk from some of Berlin's most awesome bars, and plenty of places around to eat. Recommended!
Eitan was a good communicator throughout my trip planning, making my stay go smoothly. The apartment is a convenient location for public transportation and nightlife.
Key pickup happened at a small restaurant, roughy 10 minute walking distance and worked flawlessly. The apartment is very close to the bar/restaurant center of Friedrichshain, my favorite neighborhood in Berlin. A long walk or a simple tram ride takes you to Kreuzberg, Prenzlauer Berg or Mitte. The apartment itself is simple, clean and pragmatic. I would have wished for a kitchen towel, but other than that it had everything I needed.
