Other things to note
The Neal House anchors the story at its earliest known point, offering a name that is both simple and enduring. By 1892, the property was associated with Mary Neal, daughter of Major Throckmorton and the last of eleven children, marking the site as part of a much earlier chapter in Millersburg’s history.

While records from that period are sparse, they confirm that a residence already stood on the property when it passed from Mary Neal into new hands. From that moment forward, the house entered a continuous line of care, adaptation, and lived experience that would shape its character over generations.

Under later ownership, most notably through the Stirman family, the home became a place of both daily life and gathering. It was a residence that held structure and hospitality in equal measure. A teacher’s home, a place of welcome for young guests, and the setting for meaningful occasions, including a wedding held within its rooms. In the early twentieth century, the property was further renewed through substantial improvements, continuing its evolution rather than interrupting it.

To call it The Neal House is to honor the origin of that story. It allows the home to stand with quiet confidence, rooted in its earliest known identity, while holding within it the many lives that followed. The name does not attempt to tell the entire story at once. Instead, it invites it to unfold.

Today, as part of the Mustard Seed Hill accommodations, The Neal House continues that legacy of stewardship. Restored with care and intention, it remains a place shaped by those who have lived, gathered, and welcomed others here across time.

Please note that while the fireplaces beautifully enhance the home’s historic charm, they are currently decorative and not in use.

This home is one of five historic residences belonging to Mustard Seed Hill, a breathtaking event and wedding venue located near Lexington, Kentucky, in the heart of the Bluegrass Region. Mustard Seed Hill also offers eight beautifully designed suites, each providing a cozy, boutique-style stay within the historic campus.
