Enjoy the Ubud area from a spectacular private home perched high in a lush, river valley. Enter into a spacious grand room with large modern kitchen featuring terrazzo counters and huge rubber wood bar, dining and living space featuring wrap around floor to ceiling glass windows to emphasize the jungle views, vaulted ceiling, polished cement floors, and antique javanese furniture. We have 3 bedrooms: with views, hotel linens and en suite baths. The large 3rd bedroom on the lower level may be used as a yoga studio or other group gathering area- the staff can set up single beds here, which can be ideal for children or extra guests. Our baths include 2 powder rooms and 2 full open air spaces with showers and terrazzo oval tubs built on site by the terrazzo maker of the Four Seasons Hotel. The property includes terraced gardens, a lovely temple area, and stone patios with an infinity plunge pool to enjoy. Watch the tropical birds soar through the misty jungle while listening to the sound of the river below. The house is expertly cared for by our housekeepers, gardener, security guard and manager. Payogan is a lovely, quiet village!
The view is spectacular here! What we loved most about the villa was the upstairs living space, which was open and airy. Without A/C the house stayed warm, even with the doors open, so at night when the bugs came out we just closed up the mosquito nets around our beds and lit incense. It turned out to be a beautiful experience listening to the sounds of the jungle outside the windows.
One unexpected feature is that the pool is always in the shade of the villa, keeping it very cold. This is a nice contrast to the humid weather we experienced while visiting. We found some frogs taking a swim a couple of days, along with tons of other local wildlife, which was incredible!
There is a long winding staircase down to the villa, which adds to the charm and experience of it all. It is secluded - and because no address was provided we met the WONDERFUL house manger, Made, at the local Bintang Market so he could lead us to the villa. Throughout our stay he drove us wherever we needed to go. He is a lovely person, and enriched the experience greatly for us.
It is important to note that there are 2 furnished bedrooms in the listing, as the third is an empty and open yoga studio downstairs. The main downstairs bathroom is outdoors, so if you're squeamish (like my sister in law!) then I'd recommend staying in the upstairs bedroom to avoid the spiders and bugs. Also, the upstairs and downstairs are connected by an outdoor staircase, so I would not recommend this villa to families with young children.
This is the perfect place for those looking for an authentic, off the beaten path experience. While the villa has all the modern amenities you could hope for, it still feels adventurous and secluded. We loved our stay!
Amy's place is spectacular! The jungle views are incredible. It's a short motor bike ride from town, but the peacefulness and privacy justify it. The wifi worked great. There are bugs due to the open nature of the villa, but if you close everything up before dark, they aren't a problem at all. We arrived there expecting 3 bedrooms but there were only 2. Being disappointed, I messaged Amy. She was more than understanding and adjusted the price accordingly. I was very impressed and pleased by her hospitality in this instance. Her staff were fantastic as they cleaned daily and even made us breakfast. Made (staff member) assisted us in getting motorbikes and even dropped us off at the bintang market at 2 in the morning so we could catch our ride to Mt. Batur.
