What a WONDERFUL experience! When we drove up to the property, my friend and I could not believe how absolutely beautiful and picturesque it was. The house was adorable and comfortable, filled with everything you need. We only wish we could have stayed longer! Should my travels bring me back to the Big Island I will absolutely stay here again.
Mailes cottage was wonderful. It was a serene setting in the Kohala mountainside. The cottage is cozy and comfortable. The bathroom/shower is open air but the rest of the cottage can be closed off from the outdoors. Maile supplied everything we could have possibly needed from bathroom supplies to ramen noodles! We hope to return to explore more of Kohala and Kona! Thank you Maile
Our hosts provided us with excellent directions on finding this country cottage. We could only stay two nights, and the weather did not cooperate. Still we enjoyed our stay, and loved the remote cottage high on a hillside with a view of the ocean. And while the cottage is certainly "quirky", we enjoyed washing the dishes at the sink among tree branches, and the view of a rainbow from the shower was fabulous.
Staying at Maile & Jason's home in Waimea was a dream. We felt totally welcome and had everything that we needed at our disposal, including toiletries, kitchen supplies, fruit and condiments as well. The view is spectacular and it feels very private. We enjoyed mornings with the horses, the kitten, and Jujubee, their sweet dog. Staying at this location is ideal for exploring the northern part of the island (Hawi, Mauna Kea, Waipio Valley, etc) and we also found it easy to access the Kona area as well, while still being removed from the 'madness'. :) Mahalo for your kind hospitality!
After booking Ocean Views, I began to worry that the cottage would be a bit too 'rough living' for us. I shouldn't have worried! Maile's cottage is probably the most comfortable place I've ever stayed! Even though her house is within shouting distance, you feel as though you're in a world of your own. Maile herself is as hands on or off as you please. She was kind enough to give us a guava to go with our breakfast on the first morning, and was a wealth of information on where to go and what to see. Do be sure to get your groceries before arriving, as you won't want to leave, even for food! Also, the path up to the cabin is a bit of a hike if you have heavy luggage, but so worth it! It gets a little chilly at night and in the morning until the sun comes over the hill, but a light sweatshirt is all you need, and Maile provides tons of blankets to wrap around you and to snuggle into the extremely comfortable bed. The water is triple filtered, and not only safe to drink, but very good.
I will definitely recommend Ocean Views to anyone going to the Big Island, and hope to stay there again myself!
This place was amazing! Everything we needed was thoughtfully provided, in a beautiful, serene, and lovely environment. We greatly enjoyed the location and how close it was to everything. Maile and her family were also very friendly, and we loved meeting them. Maholo aplenty!
We had a wonderful stay at Maile's cottage. It was a nice quiet place to spend our last 3 nights on the island. The views and sunsets from the lanai are fabulous!! Cottage is very well equipped with everything you need to cook your own meals if you like. The outdoor shower is a real treat too! We also appreciated being able to use beach gear - towels, boogie boards, chairs, cooler were all really nice to have. The location is very convenient to restaurants and grocery stores in Waimea and also very easy to get to Kohala beaches.
Overall we would return here again. Thanks Maile for a great stay!
