Fantastic beach front location and unique house design. 3 bedroom 2 bathroom luxury home in beautiful Sandy Bay village, local neighbourhood, just 2 miles from West End. Casa Argenta is situated right on the sandy beach!
The house (440 square feet) is fully equipped for 6 persons with 3 terraces and a rooftop offering an incredible view. Great snorkelling and diving at the protected reef right in front of your silver home called Casa Argenta. Offered for weekly rent by the owner at very affordable prices, with all extras included. Have a quick look at the pictures -- sure you'll love Casa Argenta!
We are part of the nice and quiet, unspoilt village of Sandy Bay - and of course the beach! Scuba Diving and Windsurfing within a 5 minutes walk, dolphins (Anthony's key) at 10 minutes. A large super market is 8 miles away.
There are plenty of taxis (5-10$ a ride), collective taxis cost 2$ per person.
Casa Argenta was an absolutely wonderful place for our group. We snorkeled right from the beach, greatly enjoyed the rooftop and hammocks during lounge hours, and the kitchen was well equipped for hosting meals. I highly recommend this place to anyone coming to Roatan for vacation. Great location, very helpful hosts, beautiful home.
Hans was easy to work with and very responsive to all our questions and concerns. This was our first air b&b experience and it was easy. The house is exactly as the pictures portray, it's very interesting and functional. The kitchen has everything you will need to do your cooking and we were able to stop and grocery shop on the way from the airport and get everything we needed for our stay. Tanja, the property manager was very helpful checking us in and was also very responsive and accessible during our stay. There is also a security guard for some of the properties in that neighborhood that introduced himself right when we got there and checked in on us a number of times during our stay. The house is an easy two block walk to the main road where there is an abundance of taxi's and buses that run at all times. Most of the time we got picked up just as we were coming to the main road. You must ask the price of the ride before you get in. We went to the east end of the island one day. It was $40 to get there and $20 to get back. As the taxi driver said to us "the price depends". As for comfort, my wife and I had different experiences. I enjoy a firm bed and I like hammocks. For her the bed was much to firm and she didn't feel like there was a cozy place to just sit and read and look at the view, which is stunning! If you fly fish you can spend lots of time twice a day, with the tides, fishing. There are plenty of bone fish and permit right in front of the house. Also you can get out to great snorkeling straight out from the house. There are buoys out there where the snorkeling and diving shops tie up when they bring tourists out. All in all a very enjoyable stay. Thanks Hans!
I loved the space at the Tropical Island beach front house it is beautiful and airy and comfortable, and exactly as it says directly on the beach.
I don't want to go into details, but make sure that you lock up the house properly overnight and when you are there keep a look out. Exactly like the guests on January 1st we lost valuables from not properly locking the front glass doors, make sure that you know exactly how to close those and use the alarm system. We were not the only ones in the neighborhood to be broken into during the week so it is an area problem.
Tanjah the manager was a wonderful help the entire week and the scuba diving is the best I've ever experienced in the Caribbean.
Thank you very much, Marisa, for your feed back! We are very much aware of the need to lock up the house properly at night and not being careless with valuables - it's Honduras, hélas. I am very happy indeed that you apreciated Tanjah's support and that you enjoyed your stay in our beautiful beach house. Thank you again and best regards, Hans
This place has so much potential, but Hans' management falls well below the standards I'd expect of AirBnB hosts. The villa did not feel very safe or secure, and Hans was often dishonest and omitted crucial information.
But first, a few positives: It’s beautiful, and well-equipped with cooking stuff and snorkeling gear. Great dive centre, restaurant, and spa are a five minute walk down the beach. Tanja, the property manager, is always a phone call away and works hard to help.
Before I booked, I asked Hans about two things…
1- Reliable Wifi, to get critical work on my app done throughout the week.
Hans: "WiFi is very reliable, but not verya [sic] fast."
Hans never mentioned until after I made the booking he was going to charge me $25 for the internet. Also, the internet cut out mid-week, and when we called Tanja to figure out why, she said there was a 300mb data cap. No one ever told me about that, and we waited a day and a half to regain internet access.
2- Privacy. I told Hans “we'd really like to have a very secluded private spot on the beach.”
Hans: "You'll have your private beach in front of the house, few people are walking by."
That is not true. Our first two hours, twelve people walked by, some used the swing, one man sat with his dogs just steps in front of the house and stayed there for an hour. There was a moment when I was changing in the beach-facing bedroom and turned to see a woman 10 meters away with a DSLR camera taking a photo of the villa.
Tanja later explained that Hans wanted the property to be an open concept and to be very inviting to people to use the swing, the beach, etc... But he never mentioned anything like that in his reply.
And the biggest issue: SECURITY!
Tanja repeatedly asserted that anything left out, or any valuables visible through the windows would immediately attract the attention of thieves/intruders who were always watching. She cited examples of careless guests having items stolen, and that we’d be safe if we locked up and hid our valuables.
Okay, we can deal with being careful… But she failed to mention that the previous guests had been forcibly broken into and had items stolen just two weeks prior!
I only discovered this by reading the last guests’ review after I got home from Roatan. Like they said, the at-home alarm mode doesn’t work, and Hans’ answer is completely unsatisfactory. The at-home mode should detect any door intrusion (but not your own movement inside the house), but clearly Hans didn’t see a need to fix it or tell us that it didn’t work even after a break-in! Tanja acted surprised when we told her it wasn’t working.
We still had a great holiday, but never been more disappointed with an Airbnb host.
We spent a week over New Years at Casa Argenta. The house was beautiful as was the Sandy Bay area. Tonja met us at the airport and although she was confused about the number of people in our group she quickly made us feel at home and showed us the house. We loved the proximity to the beach, the outdoor patio space, and the kitchen area. We spent much of our week eating at the local resorts Blue Bahia, and Tranquilseas. There were six people in our group, and we enjoyed the food at both locations.
Unfortunately our stay at Casa Argenta was not perfect. On New Years Eve we woke up at 2:45 am to someone who had broken into the house. He gained access by unscrewing the bolts on the giant glass door in the kitchen. Our friends woke up to the man next to their bed rummaging through their possessions. They screamed and thankfully he ran out with no confrontation.
We are very thankful that no one was harmed, but items and money were taken during the process. We no longer felt secure staying at Casa Argenta, and thus had to find other accommodation for our remaining time on Roatan. We notified Tanja and Hans about the situation immediately following.
After speaking with Tanja before we left Roatan she let us know that someone had previously broken into the skylight to gain access to the house. I recommended to Hans that more security needs to be added to protect the entry to the glass door. He mentioned that two nuts need to be used on each bolt. The problem was that we were only provided with one nut for each bolt. This allowed anyone with a simple hand tool or drill to quickly unscrew the nut from the outside.
There is an alarm system at the house which we used whenever we would leave. However Tanja told us that it was to much of hassle to arm the alarm while we were sleeping because it would go off.
We really wanted to love our stay at Casa Argenta, and would have despite this situation. We don't blame Hans or Tanja, but there are some security measures that need to be updated for future visitors to be safe.
In order to protect Casa Argenta, we recently installed a new, modern alarm system with direct connection to a security company with local mobile patrols. Of course, it makes no sense to set the alarm when you are sleeping, because you would trigger the motion sensors in the middle of the night while going to the bathroom. But you do have to secure the sliding doors from inside with the two nuts provided. We are really sorry about what happened to Elizabeth and her friends: A stupid drunk guy, probably on the way home from the New Year’s party, stepped into the house without even realizing that there were six people sleeping in the three bedrooms - and then involuntarily woke them up…
Just to add this: Holiday guests also have their resposibility to lock the doors properly when going to sleep - and this concerns not only houses on Caribbean beaches.
Fantastic! The house is just as it seems in the photos - right on the beach. It was a short walk to Anthony's Key Resort to see the Dolphin Show, and an even shorter walk to the Beach Grill at Blue Bahia resort that had excellent food. We also enjoyed climbing up Carambola Mountain at the gardens (across the road from Anthony's Key Resort) to see the view. Trips down to West End and West Bay were easy by taxi. We were happy to be staying a bit away from that area, though, as it was very busy there.
We got a bit off on the wrong foot as we had to pay extra beyond what was in the listing (I'm guessing the owner forgot to bump the rate up on the site for the week of Christmas). But once we got there Tanja the house manager and Roberto the driver made us feel very welcome, answering all of our questions and taking great care of us. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking equipment, spices, etc. There was a bit of noise from the road and neighbors, but it did not interfere with our vacation at all.
The skylights above the bed give a view of the stars on clear nights. They do mean that sleeping late is not an option, but naps in the hammock made up for any extra sleep that was needed.
The house could use a comfortable lounging area - perhaps two outdoor sofas in an L on the side porch? This would especially be an issue if you had more than two people there as there were only two hammocks.
Overall we had a great time on Roatan in general and at Casa Argenta in particular. Thanks for sharing this unique home with us!
Casa Argenta is even more beautiful than the pictures!
My wife and I spent 5 nights of our honeymoon here. The house is in Sandy Bay, which was the perfect location for us. We wanted to spend most of our time amongst Islanders and not the overflow of cruise ship visitors. It’s far enough away from the tourist hubs of West End and West Bay, so there was peace and quiet, but not so far way that you can’t enjoy the nightlife if you want to. West End is a quick cab ride away ($5 for both of us) and you can take a water taxi (recommended) for $3 a person from West End to West Bay. Make sure you agree on payment before you jump in.
The house itself is just really cool! Modern architecture just feet away from the ocean was a dream for us. You can snorkel right in front of the house and all the gear is provided. Bring water shoes. This part of the beach is beautiful but also has more plant life and sea urchins in the shallows. The home is very comfortable, but don’t expect central AC or fancy hotel amenities. The floor plan is open and natural so expect a few bugs and warm weather. This is the tropics!
Hans was very kind and easy to communicate with, and made the booking process a breeze.
Tanja is the manager of this home, and was so helpful and accommodating. She lives down the road and is just a phone call away.
We had a wonderful experience here!
