About This Listing
If you're looking for a real Hawaii get away...consider our beautiful and comfortable home in Kaimuki with your own private bathroom! Our 2nd floor 3 bedroom plantation style home is located in a residential neighborhood with some Diamond Head and ocean views. We have beautiful sunny mornings, fantastic sunsets and even a double rainbow every now and then, The space is very breezy with LOTS AND LOTS of sunlight. We also have kitchen space for light cooking. The house has wireless internet so you can facetime with all your friends and make them SUPER jealous that you're in Hawaii;) We have a washer and dryer available to you as well.
We are a quick walk down hill from lots of YUMMY restaurants along Waialae Avenue. There are 42 restaurants within a 15 minute walk!! Kaimuki is a funky, friendly and chill neighborhood with lots of cool folks walking around at all hours of the day. Whether it's for their morning jog or taking their kids out for a nice stroll in the early evening. The neighborhood is VERY safe, with a Walk Score of 83. We are close to the University of Hawaii and Chaminade University. Our place is a great way for you to get to know the neighborhood.
We are also VERY close to the bus line should you choose to go that route (see what I just did there?;)) We are out of the craziness of Waikiki, but only a few miles away from it all.
We are chill, down to earth folks who like to be social, but will also leave you be if you choose to meditate for your entire trip. My husband and I are both Physical Therapists. He is originally from Australia and I am originally from Canada. We enjoy traveling and the outdoors, but like coming home and unwinding in front of the television with a good music documentary after a long day of working. We are more of a small craft beer house then a keg stand joint. Our house is nice and neat and homey:) If you're looking for a party house...this is probably not the best choice for you. We like to keep the noise down late at night out of respect for our neighbors and downstairs tenant.
Please be aware that we have a dog named Jack who resides downstairs in the backyard. Sometimes he sits with us on the lanai while we are chilling out at the end of the day. He may be invited into our bedroom when there is thunder and lightening. He does not venture to the back of the house where your room is.
Check out our photos and feel free to shoot us a message if you have any questions. Hope to hang with you in Hawaii soon! ALOOOOOOOHA!

Alison and Martin were great! Everything went smoothly, and our stay was great. They had great suggestions and were very hospitable! They let us use their snorkel gear and shared a couple beers with us, super cool!
Thanks are plenty for Alison and Martin for opening their home to us and helping us feel welcome. Good description of all the intricacies of finding their place, accessing the home when they are not around, and excellent advice of how to make the most of the wonderful Kaimuki district. The room actually works more like a mini-suite, with private access to the bath and a hall door that can be opened or closed depending on one's current needs. The hosts are warm and engaging, but also respectful of guests' privacy, for which we are most grateful. We loved the lived-in, family character of the place. It's clearly a home that has been loved and loving to a growing family with years of history here. Cool breezes keep the place comfy, even when the humidity gets intense. Room is large enough to move around and leave opened suitcases easy to access. Even though our schedules frequently overlapped, there was no awkward sense of bumping into each other coming and going. Not needing to share a bath is very reassuring, and not yet highlighted enough in the on-line property description. Mahalo, A & M!

This place was great! Alison made sure to introduce herself and give us a little tour and we felt very comfortable. It was easy to be sociable with her and Martin, or have some quiet private time if we wanted. The room & bed were comfortable and we had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend staying here.
I really had a great time at Alison's and Marty's place here on Oahu. Their home is quite straightforward to reach by bus from the airport (simply take Bus line #9 and a 5 min. walk up the hill with an amazing view over Honolulu and the ocean).
I was well introduced into the nice and beautiful house for my stay here and immediately felt comfortable. Alison and Marty gave me great advice on different hike trails and where to get good American breakfast (Borgat's). Also they provided me with some great books about Oahu and the surrounding islands. Their personal advice and the provided travel guides fortunately prevented me from doing extensive and time-consuming internet searches and I could use the time for exploring the island instead.
Thanks Alison and Marty!
Unfortunately our 3 night stay became barely 1 night because of an airline problem that delayed our arrival until 10:00pm on the 3rd night of our stay. Alison & Martin greeted us & stayed up until midnight talking & consoling, even though they were working the next day. The room & bathroom were very nice and we could see Diamond Head from the front deck so the location was good. Would like to meet Alison & Martin again for a longer visit some day.
Alison did a great job of introducing us to the area and helping us with transportation alternatives and parking. We used the bus for transportation, then switched to a Relay Ride car based on Alison's advice. Honolulu is a busy, active, city with lots of people, traffic, and noise. Our guest room up the hill in a quiet neighborhood was a perfect escape from our busy days at the beach, the zoo, and museums. The flow of the breeze in the evening was cool and comforting for our sweet dreams.
I absolutely loved my stay at Alison & Martin's place. Their home is comfortable and so welcoming - it really did feel like home away from home. I enjoyed my own room and bathroom but really enjoyed the porch on the second floor with peekaboo views of the ocean, Diamond Head and sunsets. The neighborhood is quiet and safe and there's loads of restaurants and shopping just a few blocks down the hill. Parking wasn't always right out front but I always found a spot right around the corner. This was exactly the right place to escape the craziness of Honolulu at the end of the day. Thank you, Ali, Martin and especially Beth!
