The Panoromantica studio apartment has the most incredible view of Guanajuato! Here you will sleep under a beautiful brick dome with a glass cupola to the night sky. This is the magical romantic get-away that you dream about.
WELCOME TO THE GOLDEN BEE: 3rd FLOOR • This is a great space to enjoy the ever changing sky of Guanajuato, Mexico. The view is very dramatic classical multicolored painting.
The PANOROMANTICA 3rd floor studio suite offers one of the best views of Guanajuato. On entering you will find yourself under a large brick dome ceiling called a Bovada that reminds you of 18th century Spain. Bovadas are built free standing and is specific to this area of Mexico. The PANOROMANTICA has a new comfortable Queen bed and is fully furnished. The private bathroom has modern plumbing, great hot water and pressure. The WC is separate from the walk in shower. The bathroom counter is a beautiful piece of St Thomas Mexican marble. The floors are hand made mosaic tiles from San Miguel Allende. Sara lovingly designed the pattern layout and colors for this suite. The walls are lime plastered and polished with hints of glittering greens and blues. Art from Mexico and a Indonesia adorn these walls. The amazing hand pounded copper kitchen sink has filter drinking water for your ease and comfort. There are two fantastic private patios that look over the whole village of Guanajuato and up to the church in Valenciana. The building is made of an eco insulated panel system so it is a little quieter and the room stays cooler or warmer than concrete. The doors, windows and gates are all made of steel so you can lock things up for security but still have light and fresh air.
THE PANOROMANTICA SUITE INCLUDES:
• An incredible 300 degree view of Guanajuato from private patios
• Phone for emergency use.
• Washing machine (This machine is also used by the second floor renters. They are asked to have your permission first before using the machine. )
• 450 sq. feet of interior space plus that much or more of private patio.

• Laundry rack

• Plates, Bowels, Cups, Glasses and Serving Platters collected through out our travels in Mexico.
The Golden Bee is about a 15 minute walk to the down town. You head straight out the door and down the hill. A taxi ride back up is about 35 pesos but there are also buses that go directly up and will drop you off right in front.
The Golden Bee is located on the city bus line, just step outside and walk 15 feet to the bus stop. There are large buses and small buses. The smaller buses go down Barrio Nuevo and the large buses go along the Panoramica until they can take a more major road into the city.
HAVE YOUR OWN CAR?
There is a 24-hour secured out door parking lot with a guard, one block away from the Golden Bee. It is about 100 pesos a week (around $8.00). They lock the gate to the parking lot at 12:30 am and open it again at 5:30 am.
There is a beautiful stone wall that surrounds the property and a 20 foot tall old Garambullo cactus tree that is magnificent. We are collecting beautiful exotic plants and on warm days the honey bees buzz among the cactus and fruit trees.
We are situated in a residential neighborhood and is only a fifteen minute or less walk from down town. Little business and eateries are popping up all the time. A food stand just opened up across the street and there are little grocery stores within walking distance. If you head up the hill behind the Golden bee there is the beautiful old Mellado church at the top with a sweet plaza out front.
The Golden Bee is all new construction using a new material called Convintec. Coventec is considered a lead platinum green product. It is a structural wired panel filled with a rigid insulation, which is than covered in stucco. In completion of the Golden Bee we will have solar water heaters and solar lighting capabilities. We are now is the first stage of building. The second stage will be to add a dance studio and dormitory for future retreats.
"The oldest known name for the area is “Mo-o-ti,” which means “place of metals.” Later, it was called "Paxtitlán" by the Aztecs, which means “place of straw.” The current name of Guanajuato comes from P'urhépecha “Quanax huato," which means “hilly place of frogs.” ---Wikipedia
2 private patios with outdoor sitting areas. Private bathroom, kitchen and shared washing machine. Wi-fi and emergency telephone. Drinking water.
Interaction with Guests
The washing machine is on this floor so we encourage the 2nd floor renters to ask you when it is a good time to do some laundry. The second floor guests have their own patio, dining and kitchen areas. Everyone is welcome to enjoy the grounds.
We hope that you meet wonderful people as you buzzzzzzz about the Golden bee.
This neighborhood is so fun to watch change. It is constantly changing with new little shops, currently there is an artisan brewery next door and a barbeque across the street. There is also a kindergarten close by and often the children walk by dressed in costumes, lots of insects and princess' pass by. It is so fun to see them as they head to school. There is a hidden church and plaza above that nobody seems to have discovered yet. The parking lot that we use is only a minute walk down the street. Joggers are running by on the road in the morning. Mexico is growing rapidly and all around us you see the new vitality.
There is a bus stop right out front. You can get a big bus that goes the long way around and into town or a little bus that shoots down Barrio Nuevo and or back up. It is easy to get a taxi up to The Golden Bee. It might be a little wait for a taxi going down. Walking to down town Guanajuato is a downhill 10 -15 min.

The Golden Bee is an incredibly magical place! My boyfriend and I spent a week in Panoromantica, the third floor. The space itself is beautiful, the ceiling is incredible and the giant patio is perfect for dining and relaxing. The house is about a 10/15 minute walk into the center of town. It's a gorgeous scenic walk to the bottom. We took a taxi home every night and sometimes in the afternoon when we were exhausted to return later for dinner and drinks. It cost about 40-45 pesos (around $4 US). We prefered the distance for the lovely view it gave us and it made for more of a romantic getaway.
Sarah responded quickly to all of our inquiries and the hosts, John and Laura were amazing. Besides giving us a warm welcome and checking in every once awhile to make sure everything was in order they helped us when we needed it. Thanks!
There are a lot of dogs in the neighborhood, but the best are Galaxy and Tullia. It took a day or two for them to get used to us, but once they did they were incredibly sweet. Dogs do bark most of the night, but we kept the windows closed and it was fine. The nights are pretty cool so it wasn't a problem.
Guanajuato is a beautiful city, possibly my favorite in all of Mexico. If we return we would definitely stay in the Panoromantica again!
Thank you so much for the wonderful words and helpful tips for others. We also love the dome ceiling, that was one of our favorite times building and watching it go up everyday. The Bovada Masters hand stack the dome. There is no form used, pretty amazing. Yes we wish we could turn down Guanajuato's dog volume.... but the beautiful city makes up for it. We look forward to your return.
We stayed in Panoramica (third floor studio with a terrace, kitchenette, a bathroom, shower, and washing machine). It was amazing. Beautifully designed, very comfortable bed, filtered water, chairs and small tables placed strategically, and artistic, too. Beautiful view of hillsides full of different colored houses ending in bare hillsides. In the mornings, we just hung out on the terrace, drinking coffee and admiring the view, feeling like it was the perfect place to be. There was not much noise; yes, a few dogs, but they stopped barking after 10 or 11 pm, and the occasional bus and other traffic noise were blocked by the projecting terrace and the floors below). Later in the morning, we walked downhill towards downtown, and then through tunnel with lots of pedestrians and cars. It was a pretty easy walk and not too far. We roamed the city (an amazing place) all day and in the evening left its city air in the 35-40 peso taxi ride back to Golden Bee, with its fresh breezes. We stayed for a week. What a beautiful place and a fascinating city. Once, when we were going on a day trip out of town, we took the bus out front; it took us to another bus at a small square on the edge of downtown. And Sara! It was great visiting with you and learning about your new art projects!!! We loved the design of the Golden Bee, the comfort and seclusion of the top-floor studio, , and pretty much everything! The work in progress (the whole Golden Bee retreat project) is fascinating. We would definitely love to come back again, see how it turns out when it’s completed, perhaps stay longer. (Guanajuato would be a great place to go to a language school, or to bring a computer project to work on.) The taxi to the Leon airport at 5:45 am (for our 7:38 flight) was no problem either—you just have to make the reservation the day before, giving them the cross streets. Back in rainy Portland, I reminisce about the visit to Guanajuato, the sun, cool evenings, and beautiful light. The food was great, too, at least at the places Sara recommended. We want to go back!
Thank you so much Ella for the taking the time to write such a wonderful and honest review. I am so glad you came to stay and visit. Next time you will have to bring your paints and we will go out into the countryside and paint and have a picnic. That will be fun!!!!! See you back in Guanajuato soon.
Wow what a special place! I absolutely loved my stay at the Golden Bee. Everything was perfect. Sleeping in a enormous comfy bed under the beautiful boveda ceiling was a special treat. Sara was an exceptional host who went out of her way to make me feel welcome and to make sure I was comfortable.
The rooms are finished in a beautiful and interesting way. So many lovely details. The location is great too. Close to Centro but up on the Panoramic so you get the spectacular views. It's a really inspiring atmosphere. I would love to come back!
Thanks again Sara for an amazing adventure! C:
Beautifully designed studio. Everything worked perfectly in the studio & all the details were thought through really well. The owners are very nice and live in USA but reply to emails very quickly. It is around 1-1.5km down a fairly steep street than through a tunnel to the centre. I recommend getting a taxi (40pesos) or bus (5pesos) back in the evening as the street you need to walk up is steep (great exercise!) but perhaps not the best to do this in the night. There are no restaurants in this area but you can cook in the great kitchen or grab a taxi/bus easily. And bring ear plugs - Guanajuato has a million dogs that bark a lot. Overall, very nice place to stay.
