Lovely, safe neighborhood just through the park to CMU and Oakland and 2 blocks from the heart of Squirrel Hill. Wireless network. Treats when host is baking. Nice. Lyft and Uber are now both in Pittsburgh so travel is easy and fun.
Laptop table, comfy chair and good lighting for work. The mattress is new, the linens and comforter are natural materials and the quilts are hand made!
Long-term stays are possible with limited access to the kitchen and host doing your laundry 1x week for $5. If you would prefer home-made food, that is a possibility for additional cost (and I'm a good cook!).
Interaction with Guests
We'll interact as you wish; I am both solicitous when it comes to your comfort and discrete when it comes to your privacy. I hope that you really enjoy your time here.
CMU is 10-15 minutes by foot through a park or golf course; both a beautiful walk. Squirrel Hill is a 2 blocks away and has 15 to 20 good to superb restaurants and the best movie theatres in the city! There is a grocery store and several places that specialize in take-out food. There are two parks for running or cycling -- I live in a great place!
Easy. Lyft and Uber are in Pittsburgh! 5 or 6 bus lines within a few blocks. Safe walking distance to Squirrel Hill, Oakland, Shadyside.
Tamar was an excellent host who did all she could to make my stay comfortable. When I first arrived I found my bed too soft and she offered to switch my mattress with hers. I had free access to the kitchen and shower all hours of the day. She even baked me some delicious scones twice! Tamar adjusts her interaction with you depending on your level of comfort, so you'll be fine with her whether you're chatty or quiet.
House and neighbourhood were very safe and quiet. Room and shower were very clean. I stayed in winter and the house was warm the entire time. The room has a small personal floor heater that you can use if you're still feeling cold.
The only minor gripe I have is that if you're doing a lot of writing on paper or typing on a computer there isn't a good solid surface to do that on. I don't think that's a problem that would affect most short-term stays but as I stayed for a month it became quite bothersome. This is not a knock on Tamar's room - just that my needs were unusual.
Room comes with two lovely dogs (just kidding). The corgis are friendly, though they respect your room and keep to the ground floor or Tamar's room. They are all too happy to greet you when you get back, though :). I enjoyed the company of the two animals, but someone with, say, a dog allergy might fare quite badly.
Proximity to CMU/UPitt is great - 15 mins walk through the park/golf course or along Forbes. 5 mins by bus (bus stop is 5 mins max away). The main shopping district of the area (Squirrel Hill), where the nearest supermarket is located, is about a 10-15 mins walk away. It's also got a whole host of restaurants, ranging from all-American diners to Chinese, Thai, middle Eastern etc. Pretty eclectic range - you won't be starving.
All in all, a *GREAT* place to stay.
Tamar was super friendly and accommodating. She even made me fresh scones before I even woke up!
Tamar is really nice and helpful. I should say the two doggies are soooo cute!!! I'm starting to seriously think about if I should try to keep a dog later in my life...
The house is in a fantastic neighborhood, the nearby golf course and park is quite an amazing place to see sunset. CMU and University of Pittsburgh is within walking distance, the bus stop to uptown is simply two blocks away. It's really a good place to relax and feel the sense of life.
I stayed with Tamar for six months. I had a very happy and pleasant time. Tamar is a very welcoming person. For my needs her place and Tamar were perfect. I wanted a place where I could feel home for six months. And that is exactly what I got. My room provided me with every comfort I needed. The bed was comfortable and the closet was spacious. I could also use Tamar's kitchen. Thanks to Tamar's welcoming and open character, her lovely two dogs and the cozy house, her place became a real home for me. In addition, Tamar's place is in a great neighborhood. Shenley park is super close. CMU is easily reachable on foot. In a short walk, there are several shops and restaurants as well as a movie theater.
Tamar's home is lovely, and she was both friendly and helpful as a host. Her two corgi dogs were delightful. She made me a cup of hot tea when I arrived, and homemade scones in the morning. This quiet neighborhood is close to Carnegie Mellon and Schenley Park.
My three week stay with Tamar was quite good. The room was clean, the bed was fine, as was the shower. Tamar was quite friendly and the cup of good coffee she made for me each morning was much appreciated. The neighborhood had a number of good, moderately priced restaurants and was conveniently located for both Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh. Thew walk to the university through Schenley Park was very pleasant.
Tamar was great! She was so accommodating to my early flights in and out of Pittsburgh and even gave me a ride to campus. Her place is nice and cozy and the room was extremely comfortable. I will definitely try to stay there again when I'm back in the city.

I am a retired medical systems analyst; my hobbies are quilting, reading, and walking with my dogs. I'm also slightly addicted to foreign police shows on Netflix.
I'm a transplant from New England; raised two sons who make fun of me and keep me flexible. I'm fairly easygoing and really am enjoying this AirB'nB (which I'm new to as you can probably tell). My house is a little quirky but I think quite comfortable (and I'd love your feedback as to how to improve on that). I am friendly but aware that in your situation, I might want to just get to a shower and bed so you can have as much privacy as you like.
