Interaction with Guests
We'll interact as you wish; I am both solicitous when it comes to your comfort and discrete when it comes to your privacy. I hope that you really enjoy your time here.
CMU is 10-15 minutes by foot through a park or golf course; both a beautiful walk. Squirrel Hill is a 2 blocks away and has 15 to 20 good to superb restaurants and the best movie theatres in the city! There is a grocery store and several places that specialize in take-out food. There are two parks for running or cycling -- I live in a great place!
Easy. Lyft and Uber are in Pittsburgh! 5 or 6 bus lines within a few blocks. Safe walking distance to Squirrel Hill, Oakland, Shadyside.
From the moment I walked in the door, Tamar was a welcoming and gracious host. The room was a cozy haven during my stay in Pittsburgh. The house is in a very safe neighborhood within easy walking distance of Oakland university campuses and Squirrel Hill. I would stay at this Airbnb location again!
Tamar is a wonderful host. Her place is colorful and inviting, like she is. She is open to either spending time with you or leaving you be, whichever is your preference. One of the mornings she made scones for us. Another day she made rhubarb pie. Every morning she offered us coffee or tea.
She was very concerned with our comfort and had blankets and heaters (which I didn't need) in case we got cold.
She has two adorable dogs who are loving but not particularly interested in the guests. I think heard them bark only once or twice while i was there.
Her neighborhood is clean and quiet. Parking available on the street outside her house. Lots of stores and restaurants within walking distance.
I would highly recommend staying with Tamar if you are staying in the Pittsburgh area.
Spent last evening at Tamar's house. She was there to greet me upon my arrival and was most gracious. The room was very nice, the bed comfortable, everything was as described. Had a nice breakfast with Tamar this morning and we chatted for a bit, got to know each other. What a lovely person it was a very nice experience.
This is my second long stay with Tamar and it was a fine experience. The room is clean and cozy and the shower is fine. The house is ideal for a visiting academic. It is a 35 minute walk to the Cathedral of Learning at the University of Pittsburgh and even shorter to Carnegie Mellon University. It is also a short walk from the shops and restaurants of Squirrel Hill. If I visit Pittsburgh again I woudl certainly want to stay with Tamar.
Tamar is a great host! I had the chance to spend eleven months in Tamar's house. Her house is clean, this room is perfect for a student, and she also has a larger room on the 3rd floor for a couple. I had the opportunity to stay in both. It is a great location, near CMU, Pitt University. You can reach the universities by walking through the Schenley Park, the Golf Course. It is a very pleasant walk with a great scenery in any season. As a good Brazilian, I enjoyed very much Tamar's company (I can say she is my American mom, she took super good care of me) as well as her Corgis': Kerwyn and Triffan. I am already missing you, Tamar and doggies! Thank you so much for everything! You rock! Love you a bunch! A super big hug, Cyntia!
Tamar was an excellent host who did all she could to make my stay comfortable. When I first arrived I found my bed too soft and she offered to switch my mattress with hers. I had free access to the kitchen and shower all hours of the day. She even baked me some delicious scones twice! Tamar adjusts her interaction with you depending on your level of comfort, so you'll be fine with her whether you're chatty or quiet.
House and neighbourhood were very safe and quiet. Room and shower were very clean. I stayed in winter and the house was warm the entire time. The room has a small personal floor heater that you can use if you're still feeling cold.
The only minor gripe I have is that if you're doing a lot of writing on paper or typing on a computer there isn't a good solid surface to do that on. I don't think that's a problem that would affect most short-term stays but as I stayed for a month it became quite bothersome. This is not a knock on Tamar's room - just that my needs were unusual.
Room comes with two lovely dogs (just kidding). The corgis are friendly, though they respect your room and keep to the ground floor or Tamar's room. They are all too happy to greet you when you get back, though :). I enjoyed the company of the two animals, but someone with, say, a dog allergy might fare quite badly.
Proximity to CMU/UPitt is great - 15 mins walk through the park/golf course or along Forbes. 5 mins by bus (bus stop is 5 mins max away). The main shopping district of the area (Squirrel Hill), where the nearest supermarket is located, is about a 10-15 mins walk away. It's also got a whole host of restaurants, ranging from all-American diners to Chinese, Thai, middle Eastern etc. Pretty eclectic range - you won't be starving.
All in all, a *GREAT* place to stay.
Tamar was super friendly and accommodating. She even made me fresh scones before I even woke up!

About the Host, Tamar
I am a retired medical systems analyst; my hobbies are quilting, reading, and walking with my dogs. I'm also slightly addicted to foreign police shows on Netflix.
I'm a transplant from New England; raised two sons who make fun of me and keep me flexible. I'm fairly easygoing and really am enjoying this AirB'nB (which I'm new to as you can probably tell). My house is a little quirky but I think quite comfortable (and I'd love your feedback as to how to improve on that). I am friendly but aware that in your situation, I might want to just get to a shower and bed so you can have as much privacy as you like.
