This is the first time I used Airbnb and I am extremely satisfied. First the experience. Very easy! Back and forth e-mail and confirmations were easy and pleasant. Now the residence:
Location: The location was great! I read the reviews and saw positives and negatives and decided to try. The main reason I tried it because I was attending a conference in SF. I found this place for $85 a night. This place is 1.5 blocks away from the Hilton. The Hilton was asking about $650 a night. The Sheldon is very well located. It is right on the border of high-end and seedy/low-end. High-end = Hilton, Westin, Marriot. Low-end = street prostitutes, homeless, and low-end bars. It is a little weird because the transition between low-end and high-end is literally 1 block. The Sheldon and others like this sit on this "1 block" between high and low. That is why the location is great! Affordable lodging within 1 block of high-end.
Accommodations: Loved it!
Cons: The Sheldon is old. The floors and doors squeak when walking and opening. The carpet is a bit run down. The bed sheets, pillow cases, and comforter looked on the older side but I used them and they were comfortable. It is a smoke free hotel but for some reason my closet (only the closet) smelled like someone smoked heavily in there (at one time). Keep in mind, even though it is the Sheldon "hotel" there is no maid service. I was there for 4 days and I made my own bed, and re-used all the linens, etc.
Pros: Location was great! The place was clean and comfortable. The pictures are accurate on the site of the accommodations. I was pleased. Bed was cozy, I checked for signs of bed bugs and did not see any, I got 2 fresh towels that were nice. The private bath was updated and on the newer side. Shower head was strong and hot water came out (website hidden) in the room was very good and new. Small fridge in was nice and helpful. Free Wifi was a little slow but it worked and I had access to everything I needed. There is no thermostat in the room. It is heated by a radiator. When I walked in it was hot and I was concerned about sleeping. But to a great surprise, there was a ceiling fan. Turned it on and slept like a baby. The combination of radiator, ceiling fan and comforter allowed for temperature regulation.
I did not use the kitchen or laundry so cannot comment.
I would definitely stay at the Sheldon again.
The Sheldon hotel was clean and secure. We felt very comfortable in the room. Not fancy by any means but it was very clean. For the price, it can't be beat. The location was very convenient and close to major transit and tourist destinations. Other guests were respectful and quiet. We got a room overlooking the street but it was not noisy enough to keep us from sleeping (it is downtown after all). We walked around at night and while we didn't dilly-dally, we didn't feel unsafe. We will definitely stay here again!
Friendly staff, room was fine - clean and reasonably priced but not so sure about area. Word of advice - don't venture too far into the Tenderloin area - very sketchy by day, pleased we didn't go there after dark
Definitely my worst experience! .
First of all, it is a hotel, not a guest house.
The staff was awful and very cold, the room was not clean, broken lights in the room and the fan wasnt working.
The bathroom very noisy once we turn on the light. Last but not least, we've found cockroaches...
My best advice to the community: avoid it!!!
Airbnb should not list it.
Very clean room, great location, for San Francisco very cheap (but not so cheap anymore if you add the parking fee for one of the garages).
