COVID-19 ENHANCED CLEANING PROTOCOLS STRICTLY IN PLACE. Green urban retreat in 20x8' tiny home shipping container, in a vibrant meadow in the rear of the yard. Shared patio & fire pit w/ adjacent unit. Both have high % reclaimed materials + organic, fair trade & petrochemical / fragrance-free linens, products. (note fragrance policy). Or rent both: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/24912891 Featured by Tastemade & Airbnb: Tastemade's 9/6/17 fb page + IG!

The space
*please note: the walk is +/ - 200'. there are a couple of steps down from the street and up onto the patio. There's a short, gentle grade on the side yard portion of path.* The path cuts through the meadow, onto a common patio, at the units. The property behind us is the human services building owned by DeKalb County. We have a couple living next door and school athletic fields across the street, but the unit is tucked in by privacy fencing and vegetation, so it's a fairly secluded spot—especially in warmer months. There are lots of birds to enjoy and even some raptors who live in the meadow & hollow next to us, which is wild. It's generally quiet at night, except for some occasional talk between barred owls in the hollow and the bamboo forest across the street —in the City of Atlanta.
This is an intentionally green space. What you'll notice when you walk into your unit is a complete absence of artificially-scented and colored candles, plug-ins, fabric softeners, dryer sheets, cleaning and beauty products. The only fragrance you'd ever encounter would be essential oils (and all of our products are vegetable based), though usually, the indoor air is completely neutral. Much of the interior is constructed from upcycled / recycled materials. The bedding and bath towels are organic and mostly fair trade, and the and drinking glasses are recycled. Original art. We also supply:
+ mini fridge
+ filtered water, organic, fair trade coffee / organic tea (fair trade, when possible).
+ European split heating / cooling (cools indoor air to 61 degrees, heats beautifully into sub freezing temps).

Where you’ll be

Atlanta, Georgia, United States

Kirkwood is a very friendly place. Turn right on Hosea for a short walk to El Myriachi, Le Petit Marche, Dulce Vegan Bakery, Urban Pie, and a longer walk, if you're up for it, to Poor Hendrix. We are also not far from Ration and Dram, Gato, Dish Dive and Sun in My Belly. The Kirkwood Urban Forest and Community Garden is right behind the unit, offering 7+ acres trails for hiking, biking and connection to the natural world. Check out our online guidebook for details!

My partner Ray Manlove and I live in our small renovated bungalow on Atlanta's Eastside in Kirkwood. Ray and I co-direct hu-MAN UP, an intersectional educational initiative working to engage men and boys as allies to help end sexism and violence against women and girls, as well as the systematic oppression of racism, xenophobia and homophobia and transphobia. class face (hu-MAN UP is the main focus of our 501(c)(3) the planet project). We also (as evidenced in our eco-centric philosophy in our units) work hard to help folks become green consumers and to work with us for environmental justice. Race and class play a big part in our consumer culture--from our thirst for bargains, to excessive packaging, to artificial fragrance and ingredients to disposable goods, to fast fashion--people of color and people living in poverty are usually the ones bearing the brunt of living near and working with the chemicals in the manufacturing process, and suffering terrible health consequences, as a result. We hope you will join us in looking at where and how products are sourced and manufactured, through their use, and disposal. In short, working to create nurturance culture and deconstruct cultures of greed and dominance. We love it when guests approach us about getting involved and even collaborating!
