Our apartment has three comfortable double bedrooms with a shared kitchen and bathroom. It is beautifully located in an end of terrace Victorian house at the foot of the Castle Hill in the market town of Kendal. It is in a quiet neighbourhood surrounded by trees and greenery but only 5 minutes walk along the river bank from the town centre and its traditional pubs, bars and restaurants.
This apartment is also listed as an entire let under Spacious Lake District Apartment in case you would like to have it all to yourself.
You can walk up to the castle ruin, perfect for evening sunsets and enjoy panoramic views of the Lake District hills and the town. Or take a stroll along the river to the Abbot Hall Art Gallery and Museum of Lakeland Life. Kendal Museum is also worth a visit.
The apartment is comfortable and tastefully furnished with a mix of antique and modern furniture. It has two bedrooms and one sitting room/bedroom. There are TVs in the bedrooms and a TV/DVD player in the living room. The kitchen is fitted with everything you need to enjoy a home from home stay such as oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. The bathroom has a bath with shower over.
Kendal is known as the gateway to the Lake District but has lots to offer too, from micro breweries to theatre. The pubs in town offer an eclectic mix of local ales and regular live music to suit all tastes.
Kendal is easily accessible from the M6 and has a mainline rail station Oxenholme Lake District with direct trains to London Euston 2.5 hours. There is also a local rail link, 5 mins to Staveley (which has a nice pub the Eagle and Child) and about 15 mins to Windermere. There are also regular buses to take you into the heart of the Lakes.

We want you to enjoy your stay here and ask that you have consideration for others sharing the apartment and for next door neighbours. For everyone's comfort, please wash up after yourself and keep the shared areas clean and tidy. Please respect the flat and its contents. When you leave please make sure the flat is tidy with dishes washed and put away - we have cleaners who will come in to clean and launder after check out .
Great flat in a great location - recommended. We stayed for three nights and I guess it's the off season because we had the place to ourselves. Nice, but having travellers in the other rooms would be cool too - the place is easily big enough to share. (Our hosts, Rachel & Stuart, live upstairs,)
The kitchen is very well set up - good to be able to cook for ourselves after however long on the road. Good bathroom with a deep full-size bath. Huge bedroom, almost a studio flat with its own lounge and TV. (I loved the bed but my partner thought it was a bit soft. He's silly.)
From the flat it was a lovely walk through the park to the castle ruins at the top of the hill, or across the river into town - very convenient.
We didn't see much of our hosts but they certainly got us settled in and made us feel welcome. We didn't need any help but were sure they would be there if needed.
Thanks Cat I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in the apartment and liked it's location. We feel very lucky to live in such a lovely place. I'm also glad you felt you could contact me if you needed to. Because I'm not sharing the accommodation and live separately I'm not a very interactive host but I do want guests to feel that they are really welcome and can call me for advice or if they need anything at all.
Rachel made us feel welcome and on several occasions we asked her for advice during our two-night stay. There are three apartments on the lower house level with a private entrance, a shared bathroom with combination tub and shower, and a well-stocked kitchen. Our room was quite large and comfortable. We used the kitchen for several meals. I would rate this Airbnb a very good value.
Rachael was very helpful prior to and throughout our stay, the accommodation was clean and comfortable and in a great location. Would recommend to friends. Thanks for the stay Rachael!
I stayed there for 2 nights and Rachel is very helpful when I checked-in even though she was on holiday during that time. The bed is comfortable and the room is big. You need to share bathroom with guests in other 2 rooms but it didn't bother me at all, all guests were very friendly.
Thanks Nancy, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and that everything went smoothly with the arrangements for your arrival while I was away. It's often really nice and sociable for people travelling separately and sharing but I understand it's not for everyone. It is clear in the details of my listing that individual guests currently share a kitchen and bathroom and I'm glad it didn't bother you. However there is also an option for those who don't want to share with others to book the whole apartment to themselves. Thanks for being such a nice guest.
Nice and quiet place with a lovely little garden. Rachel is very helpful and pleasant and helps for any request. It is definitely recommanded.
The room was awesomely comfortable. The bed is situated far away from windows and nearest to heaters. Toilet was dry and clean, classical looking. The kitchen has everything. Rachel was nice enough to let me check in early and check out later, but have to make special arrangements :) thank you for the wonder room Rachel for my stay of 4 days.
Rachel was a great host and informed us of all the best places in the area. The room we had was like a small flat in itself and the place had all the amenities one could want. Kendal is a lovely place and has some great eateries as well and the Lake District as expected was great. We managed to tick all the usual boxes with great walking and getting in some canoeing on Ulswater. Also managed to get in a dive at Capernwray on the way home.
Many Thanks and Best Regards,
Pat and Liz Hughes

I work with my partner Stuart, we run an upholstery business together in Kendal, Cumbria and host for Airbnb too. We have two teenage children still living at home with us though not for much longer now. We love to travel, see new places and meet new people.
