We are experienced hosts living in a large, conveniently located Mainline home - one block from the Bala Cynwyd train station (taking you directly to Philadelphia's 30th Street Station) and also the “Rails to trails” Heritage Trail which connects to over 75 miles of paved trails. We are within a 12 minute drive to Center City & 5 minutes from SJU, Bryn Mawr & Haverford colleges. U of P and Drexel are within a 10 minute drive and Villanova is about a 20 minute drive away. The Mann Music Center lies about a mile from our front door. And, we are also less than a mile’s pleasant walk to the Beck Institute (did I say, “conveniently located??”)
All 3 bedrooms are air-conditioned and each has at least one Queen sized bed. “Room 2 of 3” has 2 beds in it. All 3 rooms lie on the top floor of our home; set aside from the family’s sleeping quarters.
The guests share their own private bath but have the use of two other bathrooms, also. The guest bath is home to our newly installed and huge walk-in shower! Breakfast is served every morning and linens, hair dryers & alarm clocks are in each room. Wifi access is available throughout the house.
In addition to their rooms & private bath, guests have access to other bathrooms and the 1st floor living areas (kitchen, living room, dining room) and driveway for parking. The kitchen is for all of us, too! In temperate weather, the veranda and patio are also for their use. For extended stays (more than 4 days) our guests have use of the washer and dryer and temporary storage too.
Interaction with Guests
The house is large enough that those seeking privacy can keep their interactions with us at a minimum. The common rooms (kitchen, dining area, living room, veranda) are, well, "common" in that we use them too. However, each of us is sensitive to the needs and wants of our guests and reading the social cues of "do not disturb" adeptly!
It is beautiful and quiet. Great walking with big sidewalks and easy access to bike trails and train to city (limited schedule for train, though!).
Park in our private drive or on our friendly neighborhood streets! Our home lies one block from the Cynwyd Train station that runs only during regular business hours. We are within a mile's walk of the larger, more active, Merion Train station too. Many of our guests use the public bus system that runs within a few blocks of our home, or the reliable MainLine Cab service too.
Other Things to Note
We are a family of friendly faces to make your stay just as you like it. Availability is often negotiable.
If you have a well behaved dog that will be friendly with ours, you are welcome to bring the little darling along too.
For stays of longer than a week or a month we have an extremely reduced rate! We will forward this special offer to you after you request the reservation.
Staying at Joe and Carol's place felt like we were staying with family. Their home was clean, comfortable and very accommodating. My son and I needed a place to stay that was close to an AAU basketball tournament at Philadephia University. Their home in Bala Cynwyd had easy access to the campus (and many other schools) and great places to grab a bite to eat (we loved Murray's deli just a couple of blocks up the street!). We stayed in the room with two beds which perfectly fit our needs both at night and in between games for a break ~ the A/C was much appreciated. The bathroom's spacious shower with overhead faucet was especially awesome for our 6'7" son! Coffee was always brewing when we woke up, the fridge and counter had nice snacks set aside for us, and they even gave us access to their laundry room to wash son's smelly uniform (thanks from many for that!). Our son watched tv with one of their sons one night, I enjoyed a little solace with the patio furniture in the yard. Communication from start to end was great ~ they were always making sure we were comfortable and matching our schedule. Definitely felt that we found a home away from home with Joe and Carol's family. Thanks for a great visit!
If you need to call a place home for any length of stay while in/near Philadelphia, Carol and Joe's is the place to go. They were the most wonderful hosts. From the moment we arrived - at midnight, half lucid from the long trip - it felt like we were an extension of their family and they a part of ours. My husband, 1.5 year old son, dog and I relocated to Philadelphia from DC in June for both school and work; however, our lease didn't start until July. Carol and Joe were very welcoming during our inquiries with AirBnB hosts. And with the ample space in their home, they were also able to host our parents who were helping babysit for the entire month.
The nights were respectfully quiet while the days enjoyably cacophonous - hard to miss an exuberant toddler, two befriending dogs (sans some moments of mischief), and a household of other wonderful folks coming to and fro.
The neighborhood is picturesque (we would stroll around for hours) and has the most wonderful walkable amenities: The Dairy Cafe (everything we tried was delicious and upstairs is a great space to study), an excellent hot yoga studio, the playground at Bala Cynwyd park, the Bala Cynwyd library (children's story time three times a week and of course another great study space), Starbucks with ample seating options, the Cynwyd SEPTA train station, and the station's adjacent perfect tea room that serves, among other items, homemade popsicles. Seriously, how could you not love it here?!
Lastly, the host family: three charismatic and driven teenage boys, energetic Piglet, and the witty, unbelievably fit, and jack-of-all-trades hosts: ukulele enthusiast Carol and juggling runner Joe (potential availability to perform at your next 5K!). What a wonderful household.
While our lease has begun and we are happy to finally have our own place to move into, we could not have imagined being anywhere else during our first month in Philly. We are thankful to have met these two wonderful hosts and now dear friends!
It's a nice and quiet place. We're contacted by Carol in advance and very well hosted by Joe.
This is the second time we have stayed with Carole and Joe. They are so warm and welcoming! Their large gracious 100 year old house is in a wonderful location, close to downtown in a beautiful mainline neighborhood close to great shops and restaurants. The three bedrooms on the top floor are very clean and comfortable. Newly renovated bathroom with a nifty shower, fluffy towels and very comfy beds feel like coming home. We used their kitchen, large dining room and living room to host a catered graduation dinner for 8 people. It was so relaxed and lovely. Definitely our go-to place when in Philly. Thanks Joe and Carole!
Carol and Joe were very gracious hosts and although my stay was only for one night they treated me as if I was going to be there for a longer period. The accommodations were as promised and the bed was quite comfortable providing a good night's sleep. They offered me full use of a well stocked kitchen for breakfast. Their large home is conveniently located in a beautiful tree lined neighborhood of the Main Line but convenient to public transportation. I plan to stay there again during my annual visit to Philadelphia. Harvey
Joe and Carol were superb hosts. The check-in was smooth, they initiated email and phone conversation and made sure we were all set upon arrival. The room was great, and the bathroom fully stocked with towels, even supplementary toiletries if needed. In addition Joe and Carol are great people to hang out with - a great experience overall.
My friends and I stayed at Joe & Carol's for a short weekend while in town for a friend's wedding. I wish we could have stayed longer! The bedroom we stayed in was a perfect fit for the three of us, the shower was fantastic and the house was absolutely gorgeous. It was a super quick walk to the church and venue for the wedding, which was great for us! Also nearby, in Bala Cynwyd, were several delicious restaurants (recommended by Joe) that were walkable from the house.
Joe and Carol were the most amazing hosts. Joe welcomed us into their home after our late flight to Austin. Along with Piglet, their super adorable dog, we got the tour of the house. We immediately felt comfortable, welcome, and like family friends instead of just airbnb guests. We were constantly reminded that if we should need anything, we need only ask. What wonderful people! We also met their sons who were just as lovely and welcoming.
In all, it was a fantastic experience with fantastic people and a beautiful home. If we're ever back in the Philadelphia/Bala Cynwyd area, we'll be sure to visit Joe and Carol again!
